Washington Conference Grants Females ______
phkrause reacted to LadyRachelLynn for a topic
The idea that men were only to rule over women and that women were always to never be able to work for G-d completely negates many women in the Bible who held higher spiritual roles. There was Miriam, Moses's sister, who seems to have held some sway within the conferencing with the men in decisions for the camp of Israel. Deborah who was a prophetess. Priscilla who was thought to be one of Paul's missionary partners. Lydia who seems to have started a movement in her city. There are of course others, some named others not. My daughter has felt the call to be a Pastor and so long as she feels as though this is where G-d wants her to I will support her wholeheartedly!1 point -

The Lie Many Honestly Believed As Truth
phkrause reacted to Gerr for a topic
You are absolutely right that NO ONE can do anything without Christ. But you err absolutely with your premise that only those who are born again can do anything. As I mentioned before, "In Him all things hold together" Col 1:17. Whether saint or sinner, whether Satan or Gabriel, they can do nothing except by the sustaining power of Christ. ESV | Ac 17:28 for “ ‘In him we live and move and have our being’" One cannot be born again and be counted as righteous until he/she receives the righteousness that is from God by faith, Rom 3:25, Rom 4:16, Gal 3:20.1 point -

All Foods Clean?
phkrause reacted to Gerr for a topic
Been having a hankering for pork chops extra rare! Seriously, look at the context. It has nothing to do with the Levitical clean and unclean foods. It was about ceremonial clean and uncleanness of food according to human tradition.1 point -

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
Liz reacted to Outta Here for a topic
My own father passed away in 2002, so he's "taken care of already." Taking my father-in-law out for breakfast this morning (but his real gift was my husband and I taking his wife out to the theater yesterday to see Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion radio show). Then the kids and I are going to see World of Warcraft (the movie) with my husband and then out for gluten-free pizza!1 point -

Time that the dead should be Judged
8thdaypriest reacted to Samie for a topic
Sadly, the 457BC decree of the Achaemenid ruler Artaxerxes was NOT a command to restore Jerusalem. Instead it was a command to BEAUTIFY the temple in Jerusalem. Hear Ezra himself, the priest and scribe, and privy to the 457BC decree given him by Artaxerxes: Beautify? Does it mean the temple had been rebuilt? Yes, and that rebuilding was completed more than 50 years ago, in 516 BC, 70 years after Jerusalem fell in 586 BC. Remember the 70-year-desolation of Jerusalem prophesied by Jeremiah the prophet? Notice that the year-for-a-day principle did not come into play in that time-prophecy: 70 years of desolation = 70 years when fulfilled.1 point -
Time that the dead should be Judged

Dave, Just cuz this forum is named ClubAdventist doesn't mean members have to be card-carrying traditional historic SDA's dedicated to every word that proceedeth forth from the pen of EGW and "present truth" from over 150 years ago. If everyone here agreed on absolutely everything that is brought up, this would be a boring place. You are free to believe whatever you want. I for one do NOT believe that the 70 weeks started in 457 BC; nor do I believe that the 2300 morning/evenings (not days or years) ended in 1798; nor do I believe that an investigative judgement began in 1844. But hey; thats me. I'll stick with scripture as my primary resource rather than a denominational doctrine whose support is scripture is fuzzy at best. Why would Jesus need over 175 years to "go through the books" if He already knows the end from the beginning? When Hebrews speaks of Jesus entering the Most Holy Place upon His ascension, why does EGW say it didn't happen until 1844? Why to SDA's place most of Daniel's vision from his time through the Roman Empire when the angel clearly tells him 4 times in Daniel 8 that the vision is for the end times (8:17, 19, 23, and 26)?1 point -

The "abomination' will cause "desolation" BECAUSE anyone who worships the imposter (Beast or his image) will be "tormented with fire and brimstone". They will be "cut off" from God. They will suffer the 7 last plagues - which DESOLATE the earth.1 point -
Our place in the Cosmos

NOTE: The following information has been obtained from the July (2016) issue of SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, and an article written by Noam Libeskind & Brent Tully. 1) The Earth (our planet) is a part of a collection of planets that are known as the Milky Way Galaxy. 2) The Milky Way Galaxy is a part of a group of more than 50 galaxies that are known as The Local Group. 3) More than a thousand of these clusters of galaxies are grouped in a cluster known as the Virgo Cluster. 4) Hundreds of these clusters are grouped in a group known as The Local Supercluster. 5) A hundred times larger than a Local Supercluster is a group of them known as a Laniakea (Hawaiian for immeasurable heaven.). Think about it for a minute. Imagine the magnitude of God's creation!1 point -

MT, good to hear from you! I have the same issues with some of the Biblical stories, I treat them the same as the parables, just a word lesson. They were understood and written down in the manner of the day, just like any other God of the day. I believe there was much fear in the lives of the people and the was their best understanding.1 point -

The Four Questions
LadyRachelLynn reacted to phkrause for a topic
In every congregation, there’s always one Jew whose purpose in life is to drive the rabbi meshugge [nuts] forever plaguing him with “deep” questions. Shmuel was one such congregant. “Tell me, Rabbi, why is it that four questions are asked on Passover, but not on Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashanah?” “Oy, Shmuel,” said the Rabbi grimacing. “Look, it’s very simple. To see a Jew wail and moan is not unusual, so who needs to ask questions? But to see a Jew happy – now that demands an explanation!”1 point
