    All Foods Clean?

I can only speak for my reality. God has advised us not to eat unclean meat. So as a rule, I don't. Paul says not to judge a person by what they eat or drink; so as a rule, I don't. I will ask God's blessing on food that others serve me if it has pork or shellfish in it. But I do eat it. I don't refuse it and then offer them a Bible study on diet. To me that's practical reality. I also wonder why we draw the line at clean/unclean meats; but don't encourage other dietary restrictions in the OT; like don't cook meat in its mother's milk (the modern equivalent of don't eat meat gravy).

  2. Just because Fox Noise doesn't report it doesn't mean it didn't happen. The media in general only reports a small fraction of the military action that is in fact taken for two obvious reasons, a cost benefit priority to what sort of things get reported, and the government isn't in the habit of publicizing most of what it does militarily, for what should be fairly obvious reasons. Consider this, those training camps were not likely the most high value ISIS targets. When you shoot a million dollar missle into a target, you try to get maximum return on that cost. And the US does target a lot of high value ISIS targets, including key training camps. And finally, the most likely reason France was able to "find" the specific training camps they attacked was using US intel help. As was the case in most of the ongoing battles in the last couple decades against terrorism, the US takes the lead and commits by far the most resources. Many of our allies commit token support by comparison.

Potayto, potahto. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Be nice. People will be nice in return. I will not beat myself up for being human; been there, done that. God wants me to be happy and to be alive. So, that's what I'm going to do.

Strong gun laws led to safer country

The world is not simple. Very few propositions in social science - I'd go so far as to say none - can be proved beyond all shadow of a doubt. These arguments were used to keep on selling and advertising cigarettes for decades after there was enough evidence on the balance of probabilities to know that they were killing people. There is sufficient evidence, on the latter standard, to support the idea that reducing the number of guns in a society reduces the number of mass shootings. And that's enough for me.

    Prophetic Inspiration

To be clear, I do not use Mrs. White as an infallible reference because I don't believe everything she says. Also, quoting Mrs. White to non SDA's is useless - they don't even know her, much less consider her a prophet. Someone earlier asked for examples of things that Mrs. White says that I do not find in scripture. Here are just a few. Day for a year principle applying to all prophecy; not just the judgment passages in Numbers and Ezekiel. If it did, why doesn't Mrs. White say the millennium lasts 360,000 years rather than 1,000? Jesus did not enter the Most Holy Place in 1844; He did it when He ascended to His Father. Read the Book of Hebrews. The papacy is not the antichrist; and the end-time church is not Rome. See Revelation 17:10 Rome was "the Kingdom that is" in John's time; and cannot be the ned-time king. The end-time issue will not be the Sabbath; it will be much broader than that. It will be "who do you worship - the beast or the Messiah? I could go on and on; but I worry about offending others.

    All Foods Clean?

"11 The Lord spoke again to Moses and to Aaron, saying to them, 2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘These are the creatures which you may eat from all the animals that are on the earth. "46 This is the law regarding the animal and the bird, and every living thing " moves in the waters and everything that swarms on the earth, 47 to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean, and between the edible creature and the creature which is not to be eaten." What you've written in your post is not consistent with the Scripture. The unclean animals were detestable and not to be eaten. That goes beyond dietary suggestions. The guide lines were also meant for the whole camp and not just particularly for the priests according to the Scripture.

    All Foods Clean?

In the modern era, of which Adventists are very much a part, the idea of the dietary restrictions have a very strong health oriented basis. That really was not the point of the clean vs. unclean distinctions of Leviticus or before. Leviticus really much more strongly frames it consistent with what I have said of the purity concept. The whole idea of being "ceremonially unclean" related directly to holiness necessary to be able to enter the temple and its services before God. The need to stand before God as "clean" or pure as possible was the objective. Some might even conclude that the rules of Leviticus are primarily applicable to the tribe of Levi, the priestly class conducting the temple services.

Never said we didn't need Christ. Never said we were self-righteous. Never said we could do anything without Christ. What I said, several times, is that it is my experience that in general, people are pretty good. Three times I have said it now. If this were a cold sales call, I'd hang up the phone now. I'm sorry that we have to end the conversation this way, but clearly we have reached a point where continually talking won't get us anywhere. Be blessed in your day. Be good. Be kind. Be courageous. Trust in the Lord with all your heart!

Strong gun laws led to safer country

I did a bit of a dig - it may even be earlier in this thread - and I think there was one case in which a 'good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun'. This is in the context of hundreds of mass shootings. It's the most common argument used to support having guns, but it is overwhelmingly a fantasy rather than anything supported by any evidence at all. There are more cases of unarmed 'good guys' stopped shooters than of armed ones.

Many a man...does not mean all men, nor does it mean most men. As I said previously, it is my experience that in general, people are pretty good (not perfect, not free from sin, not blameless).

  18. The saying 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend' has come back to haunt many a nation. EX: We funded the Afghans in their war against the Russians. They then became our enemy when Russia left. Global politics and safety of countries often leads to situations that the average american has no knowledge of, or needs too, and they could be horrified it they knew. We have a free country, the world of today requires much unseemly activities behind the scenes. A fact of life. Snowden winds up in Russia for asylum...wonder why.

'All lives matter', if I'm correct, came in response the 'Black lives matter'. On the surface it could very well be seen as a 'shut up' to the black lives movement and at times probably does with some voices. To me the 'Black Lives Matter' movement came about because of the disproportion of activity, often extreme, in black vs white situations. Prejudice, bigotry is alive and well in this country even though we have made progress, often great strides. But down on the streets where average america lives, not so much. I am not talking about just Black, but all ethnic minorities. Of course many of these 'minorities' are fast becoming larger in population and not so much minority any more. That concerns a lot of WASP's. (my opinion)

Pam, Couldn't have said it better. Thank you. It's good when there are white folks out there who will listen, empathize, and be willing to engage in real discussion. Can't always agree on everything but there can be progress.
