All prophecy is conditional upon people's response. The Holy Spirit works with who he can work with. England was preparing to fulfill this prophecy. It would have been fulfilled had not Queen Victoria still have had more power than monarchy has now. She made decisions in consultation with Prince Albert. Prince Albert was a man of God and saw the same thing that Mrs. White was shown in vision. Michael had to deal with Prince Alber's heart similar to working with King Cyrus (but hopefully not as hard). He was able to work out a compromise between England and Lincoln that was able to change the condition of this prophecy.

Yes, but it doesn't say to go to so and so and confess to him or her, for what you did to so and so. You still need to confess to Jesus not some person who has nothing to do with what was done! In my way of thinking, if I did something to you, lets say, I not only confess to Jesus, but I need to go to you and say I'm sorry! Even if you don't forgive me, Jesus will!

What does Jesus say about humans doing good? Does He say we can do some good things? No! What He states is "without Me you can do nothing" - nothing good, that is. Anyone who believes that mankind can do genuine good works - outside Christ dwelling in the heart by faith - is essentially a pagan! Not only pagan, but a very self-deceived pagan.

Wes Modder: There are times when individual beliefs have consequences. One should be willing to pay those consequences and understand that there may not be any recourse to such. But, those individual consequences may not indicate a generalized institutional discrimination. I am reminded of a senior military chaplain who refused on moral grounds to perform the marriage of his commander. That commander was the person who rated the chaplain which determined future assignments and promotions. That chaplain may have paid a price for his refusal to do that wedding. But, such is life. Sometimes there are consequences that must be paid for the moral values that one holds.

Chris Antal: Chaplain Antal was a military chaplain who has characterized himself as a pacifist. This is a person who by definition is against any form of military service. Therefore, this person is required by their pacifist belief to leave the military, which Chaplain Antil did. There is distinction between a pacifist and a conscientious objector (CO), such as Desmond Doss was. The U.S. military may be willing to put up with COs, such as Doss. They also did it for me. For the 20 years that I served, I was officially listed as a CO. I advanced in rank to that of Major and at the time that I retired, it awarded me a Legion of Merit (Look it up if you want to do so.). I have nothing that I can complain about. Chaplain Antal resigned and got out of the military. This is exactly in conformity with his pacifist beliefs and what he should have done. But, note that he states that he resigned because he wanted to generate a public conversation that held the administration accountable. He had a Constitutional right to do that. But, as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Military he did not have the right to remain in the military and to do so. As an honorable person, he should have resigned. I am aquainted with a 2-star general who resigned due to the fact that he had a moral disagreement with a policy of the then President. Due to his disagreement, he felt that he could no longer remain in his position, so he resigned. Folks, sometimes our moral beliefs require that we take action.

James Yee: The issue with Chaplain Yee is much more complex than simple religious liberty. The quote below comes from Wikipedia. Chaplain Yee was an Army chaplain who converted from the Lutheran faith to Islam. As such, the Army assigned him to Guantanamo to minister to the Islamic detainees. Note the charges that constituted the basis for his original arrest. There was a clear violation of national security which could have resulted in both a prison term and his removal as a military chaplain. But, it was felt that he could not be brought to trial without further compromise of national security. HIs punishment under Article 15 was enough to remove him from the military, which is what happened. But, his discharge was an honorable one which has entitled him to full VA benefits. I will say that he got off very lightly and has nothing to complain about. His problems resulted from much more than a religious liberty issue..

The statement by EGW in question is this... Much of the context before and after the quoted statement is conditional on if England were to decide to go to war with the US. The statement does seem a little confusing but if the condition is taken consistently throughout then it still makes sense as not an absolute prophecy.

We did have a nice thread going here at one time on SOP wisdom on dealing with Catholics... did not involve bashing, but rather pointing out what was wright rather than what was wrong... Would like someone to find that...

I just wanted to state my hope that the thread would *not* turn into a Catholic-bashing thread. I didn't even infer that it had already happened. Of course, it's appropriate to question various doctrines of *all* faiths, including Catholicism, as well as Adventism..

I have a friend - recently baptized, who is the first from her large extended family to question Catholic doctrine. She has a sister who is a nun. Of course, she is getting pressure. She says to me over and over, "I need Bible Mrs Rachel." "I need to answer them with Bible." She and I have been slowly going over all the Catholic doctrines she learned in her 53 years, comparing them with Scripture. Fortunately her husband has not been against her new faith. He can see how happy it has made her - to realize that she is "saved by faith".
