    A Voice 'From the Past

    I apologize for the orientation, but I do not know how to change it. My sister gave me this yesterday as a gag gift. By the way, she also gave one to the psychiatrist with whom she works. For some of you who do not know, EGW spoke against phrenology, as it was then called. On the back is a statement by L. N. Fowler in which he states that he had studied phrenology for some 30 years and discovered a "perfect correspondence between the conformation of the healthy skull of an individual and his known characteristics." Well, I find this interesting.

    Major Earthquake Strikes Trump Campaign

    Abraham fathered a child by his servant, Moses murdered a man and covered it up, David was a man of violence, committed adultery and sent her husband to die on the battle field, which he did, Solomon had more wives than an Mormon man ever dreamed of, Saul/Paul rounded up Jewish followers of Christ for jailing and death, etc, etc etc. Makes one wonder if they would get in church doors today let alone get voted into any office of the land. We believe God is in control of all, yet we all wail and nash teeth in responce to what out politicians do or are claimed to have done. Makes me wonder if we sometimes get waaaaaaaayyyy to worked up about things of this life!

    Major Earthquake Strikes Trump Campaign

    the faux righteous indignation aimed at Trump is almost laughable, considering 1) the Clinton sex scandals, 2) the 70 other documented sex scandals of US politicians, of both parties, and 3) the entertainment industry's overabundance of films that depict amoral sex, violence, rape, and gore, which people seem to love, as they keep showing up at the theaters, and the films keep getting made. I think Trump's remarks were lewd and filthy. But then, Hillary has a potty mouth herself, from what I've seen. ehhhh.... neither one deserve my vote... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_political_sex_scandals_in_the_United_States

    GC to take over Unions that Ordain Women!

    this is dictate in the sense of demanding compliance, God draws us to himself, we invite people to join, we do not demand compliance and punish for non compliance. if a member joins then develops a drinking problem we do not behave as dictators and kick them to the curb. we do not demand these standards to be complied with. Sabbath keeping for example has many different styles, we do not remove members if they eat out on Sabbath for example nor do we promote someone who is counting the number of steps they take on Sabbath to avoid working..

    My New Mode of Transportation

    Just bought this, middle of last week. It's a Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ABS. The good old Bandit 1200 is at the shop being spruced up to sell... and I'm enjoying getting out there and running in the engine on the new machine. It's something I've earned with a particular teaching project on top of my normal job this year, so it's been a busy year, but I have to admit I'm enjoying the fruits. And yep, I'm being careful.

    Senior moment at work tonight....

    Tonight at work I was assigned to the Children and Adolescent unit. One of the patients asked if she could call her sister. We have a book that tells who the patients can call and their phone numbers. I dialed the number, the phone rang and only got the voicemail and I left a message. I then went to the patient and said "I'm sorry, your sister did not answer I only got her answering machine and left a message." The patient had a confused look on her face and asked what I meant by answering machine. It had to be explained to her that I got her voice mail and that there use to be a machine connected to phones that took the messages and that they were called answering machines. The girl was so excited and said "You mean they really had a machine by the phones that took the messages before they had voice mail? Wow, that must have been cool....

    Doing more harm than good

    If we as individuals (or as a Church) give people a false impression of Christ’s character, then yes, we would be responsible if people don’t want anything to do with God. That we are a spectacle to the world is a sobering thought, for sure. I’m afraid that we see examples of this too often; people who are left with an unfavorable impression of the advent message after having met with professed adventists. In the end there is only one antidote: “The pure, holy lives of believers will be a living sermon, an effective argument through which the Holy Spirit may convince and convict.” {Ms9-1895.10}
