My thought is that Public school at home is better than boarding academy or even home schooling if possible. Education in this country, both private and public, is very archaic in many aspects. Everything else has become forward, but not so much the educational process. Parents should be the first and best role model, when possible. Church is for support and nurturing of all, including its youngest members.

I approve my children, right or wrong, they don't need to prove anything. We are all sons and daughters of God, he created us and does not need us to 'prove' anything. That is the difference between your belief system and most of the rest of us. You still have works in your system, no way around it!

In my opinion (and who am I, really, to have an opinion on this matter), making the family the center of the church is the KEY element to keeping members, bringing in new members and reeling in those fish who got away. I have never been a fan of division in our churches. Division by age, gender, race and status does nothing to promote the cause of togetherness. When the young people are separated from their families at a critical time in their adolescence (boarding schools), they are quick to learn that families are not a crucial element to living a Christ-filled life. Their peers become their advisors; their deans and RA's become their role models. Once they graduate from their high schools and colleges, the bond they once had with their families (and home churches) have been severely frayed, if not entirely severed. There is a great rift in the church--a rift that is letting the youth fall out and no one even notices because they're not "there" to notice.

Bonnie, You know that there is no fairness involved in the accusation. It's just another way of trying to make Hillary look "not so bad" by trying to make others look as bad as she is. It's all about who can sling the most unsubstantiated mud. Truth doesn't matter, only appearances.

Then I would find another church. I LOVE my church. We are small; but that lends so well to the sense of community. It helps that we are all basically in the same age group as well. Over 40. Some of our congregation claim to be ex-SDA; but they are still coming to a (barely) SDA church. I agree with CoA's post about home school or local school vs. boarding academy. We have a much more intimate relationship with the kids we home-schooled vs. the ones we sent to boarding academy.

I prefer that when EGW is quoted she be cited from a book that is available to most people today. The citation above leads me to believe that it came from the 1888 edition of The Great Controversy. Most people will have access to a more recent edition, which is the 1911 version. In the most common version of that edition, the citation is taken from page 335. This more common version will allow people to read the greater context. There is, however, a more recent edition. That edition is titled From Here to Forever. In that edition the cited passage is found on page 209. Yes, Litch published his views prior to August 1840, which is the date that Litch stated Turkey would fall. It is that part that EGW referenced in the passage that HCH cited. NOTE: Litch's exact date was August 11, 1840. This view of Litch, was published in 1838, 1840 and in 1841. While it can be argued that Litch was correct as to his views of Turkey, his main thesis involved much more than Turkey. His first publication of his view on Turkey was in the June 1838 publication of The Probability of the Second Coming of Christ About A.D. 1843. IOW, In its major parts, the views of Litch were not correct and cannot be said to be a valid understanding of what the Bible taught. He was just as wrong as was Miller and the others. NOTE: As to where I got my information as to the publication of Litch's materials, I got them from the Appendix of the 1911 GC, page 691.

Well.....I reckon Trump would blame the media, democrats, HC or anyone else he can think of! Was that to over the top? Just couldn't resist since that is all we hear from him.....

When i was struggling to come to church, i called the pastors wife, who was a conference paid bible worker teamed up with her pastor husband. I asked her to pray for me and please pray with me once a week. she said yes she would and hung up... no prayer. i was in deep darkness and just hoping for some support. she never called back over a week later I called her again and said, you never called to pray with me, and she said she would and she was sorry and she hung up again. after waiting again for over a week, i called her again, and said you never called and prayed with me, and you hung up without praying for me. She was very sweet saying we pray for you, and i said, i am sorry but i get the idea that you feel if you pray with me you are wasting your time. She got tense and said with this emphasis WELL! you ARE mentally ill. i was not suffering anything any medication could help, i was suffering from a break down from emotional pain... and i replied, what if i am not mentally ill but just very injured. She hung up and i felt the door shut and the darkness settle around me, i lost the hope i had in my church. I had been an organizer of women's ministries, i had served as an adult Sabbath school teacher, i felt awful. I would have become bitter and angry if not for a neighbor I had just a couple years before. She had had her own break down, and her adventist church failed her. When i, her unknowing adventist neighbor, went to visit her to connect with her, she laughed in scorn and sarcasm, and offered to read me her hate poems she wrote for the adventist church. I was overwhelmed and didn't know what to say. I was out of my comfort zone and completely unprepared. this filled my mind and i realized this bible worker was out of her comfort zone and unprepared to deal with someone in deep pain. So, by divine grace, i forgave this Pastor's wife, and i knew my previous failure had prepared me to be protected and saved from worse suffering from this failure of this pastor's wife. It was over 10 years later before i would have the strength to be in church again every week. I have often wanted to speak with her again and fill her in on my journey. I have wondered if the Lord had taken her over any paths that helped her be more prepared to relate in such circumstances. May we all grow and learn.

Wanderer, i stopped attending and tried to come back many times... it was a many years long struggle. Each case is individual... i was just discussing the shapes of many circumstances... i have observed personally. When i found a congregation that had at the center of their mission radical acceptance, and flexible structure in service... was not a conservative congregation set up and maintained to preserve traditions of the church... and exclusive, i found a place that was not only able to accept me as i was but was joyful and pleased to just do this. I found a place where Jesus was in action in a wonderful broad way. And this church is a group of praying Christian's, doing everything and being all they are with much prayer... what a find.

In today's secular mindset, of what relevance is religion anyway?
