This seems like a contradiction based on incorrect assumptions-- that God's Law of Moses had no "grace" and no "Christ", and that it was a covenant that somehow provided "eternal salvation" without Christ. When Moses sprinkled the blood of the covenant onto the people of Israel when the covenant was ratified, whose blood was it? Was it not the blood of an animal sacrifice? I often hear people claim that the animal sacrifices are no longer valid because they only pointed to Christ. But now you're saying that the "blood covenant" that was ratified by the sprinkling of the blood of an animal sacrifice whose "only valid purpose" was to point forward to Christ yet that covenant is somehow "without the protection of Christ". How can that be? It sounds like nonsense to me. On the one hand you seem to claiming that there was no other valid purpose for the sacrifices other than the sole purpose of representing Messiah, but on the other hand you seem to be claiming that those sacrifices were Messiah-less. That is a contradiction.

Jesus was showing the Jews how their tradition nullified the 10 Commandments. The notation in the NET bible states this: "If a male child is circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses is not broken. The rabbis counted 248 parts to a man's body. In the Talmud (b. Yoma 85b) R. Eleazar Ben Azariah (ca. A.D.100) states: 'If circumcision, which attaches to one only of the 248 members of the human body, suspends the Sabbath, how much more shall the saving of the whole body suspend the Sabbath?' So absolutely binding did rabbinic Judaism regard the command of Lev.12:3 to circumcise on the eighth day, that in the Mishnah m. Shabbat 18.3; 19.1,2; and m. Nedarim 3.11 all hold that the command to circumcise overrides the command to observe the Sabbath.

Here is what the pen of inspiration considers as the only authority Heaven approves in matters of faith and conscience. "The church is God's fortress, His city of refuge, which He holds in a revolted world." A.A.11. "The soul that is yielded to Christ becomes His own fortress, which He holds in a revolted world, and He intends that no authority shall be known in it but His own." Desire of Ages, 324. Therefore in the commission to His disciples "Human teaching is shut out. There is no place for tradition, for man's theories and conclusions, or for church legislation. No laws ordained by ecclesiastical authority are included in the commission. None of these are Christ's servants to teach." Desire of Ages, 826.

What is interesting is that it did not override the Sabbath to Circumcise, but they thought of it that way. To do the work of God and the will of God on the Sabbath does not break the Sabbath. So we prepare a lunch for the Homeless on Sabbath, we serve them... and some Sabbath keepers may see this as breaking the Sabbath. The priests labored more in the Temple on the Sabbath day than they did all week, and it was not considered breaking the Sabbath. In their hatred of Christ, they were blinded and could not see the glory of His actions of mercy on or off of the Sabbath. In their clinging to their self righteousness, they did not allow themselves to step into the righteousness of Christ, it was a foreign thing. They did not live by faith but they lived by sight... They had to see their good works as constant assurance that they were in God's favor. Jesus was righteous by faith. He said, "of myself i can do nothing." He walked with God by faith. He trusted His Father's words to him. He lived by every word. He quoted this scripture to the enemy in the desert. "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." God had said, "This is my beloved Son in whom i am well pleased." What we will have, in ordered to be recognized as God's people, will be what is called in In Revelation "The faith of Jesus" who lived by the word or the commands of God.... in our hearts and in our lives. That is why they are both mentioned, Faith and the words, or commandments of God. Faith hears the word and the person is empowered to do the word of God. People seem to fear that if you (generic you) are relying on the Word of God instead of your good works that you will be merely experiencing cheap grace. But if you are living by the power of God's word you will do God's will. The power of God in His word does not lend itself to performing sin. And what is not of faith is sin. But the Self righteous will not be able to recognize it, and will be able to be accusing and condemning you. What a meditation, i am so blessed this morning.

Just as a basis of comparison, in my university in our 4 year teacher education degree we lose about 49% between the beginning and the end. About 15% each year, compounded. Some of those fail their courses, some move to different degrees, some leave university for personal or other reasons, some repeat a year, and so on. I imagine there is a similar but larger range of reasons for leaving Adventism. Some stop believing, some move to offshoots or other denominations. Some were swept in on a wave of emotion at a revival meeting and when the wave subsides so do they. And so on. Not all attrition is created equal: if we are not just counting the numbers on the books, we may realise that some of those who go to other denominations are still believers and are prospering there, for example.

Because i was just giving, freely, and if someone is able to place value in this story and find meaning more power. If no one does then they are also free to go there way. God gave me the experience and i want it to be able to be used for others learning about people, my humanity and theirs, about church, and expectations, and forgiveness. I can hear my story, i can care, and i can understand... if others do or do not that is ok with me. Maybe it is comes with being an old lady and not having so many fears. Truth has a way of speaking for itself in a deeply personal disclosure or an casual story, regardless of how deeply people resonate or not.

Not to disagree, but a different view.....He is waiting for us to spread the good news to the world and in return we are improving our understanding of God. I am not sure what other people are referring too, when they say 'improve ourselves', that is not my understanding of sin. I can only 'impove ' in Gods eyes by being behind Christ. Anything I do is simply not enough. By 'doing' for others, I am simply following Gods message to us, others first, ourselves last. For me that is the gospel.

I don't agree with that either. The word "law" appears in 25 different verses in Galatians. It would be irresponsible to assume that all of them refer to the same law, or to the same type of law. In Galatians 4:21 Paul has two different usages of "law" in the same verse. If we wanted to know what "law" refers to in Galatians we would need to look at the full context of each passage, and check the Greek to see what the translators have added to the English or subtracted from the Greek. Three of the verses in Galatians use the phrase "works of the law". That phrase has a specific meaning in other Jewish writings of the same era. It would make sense to pay attention to that meaning. In many of the verses the translators have added the English word "the" to make the verse say "the law" instead of just "law". Some of those additions may be justified. Some are not. I don't think we can assume Paul meant the same thing when he said "under law" as he meant when he said "under the law". I also think we should pay attention to when Paul says "en ho nomos" (Romans 3:19) and when he says "hypo nomon" (in other verses). Paul was trained in Jewish law to a higher level than the average Jew. How could we assume that he didn't use that knowledge when he wrote? In Galatians Paul is writing to a specific group of people to deal with various issues related to the gospel and accepting Gentile believers into community and into covenant. Gentiles necessarily entered community and covenant in a different way than Jews did. Jews came into community by birth and by inheritance. Inheritance is a big deal throughout Scripture. It seems strange that people try to understand what "under law" means without considering the laws of inheritance and the man-made laws that the Jewish sages had invented for Gentiles to enter into the inheritance.

Certain radical Muslims believe they can bring the new caliphate who will bring the world to Islam by their violence and extreme assaults. If they can just shake the world enough they will bring the end of all things as we know it. Judas thought he could force Christ to take the throne and become the national ruling kings of Israel restoring national greatness by betraying Christ and forcing his hand to assert authority and power. There are right wing politicians who believe if we have a great enough political crisis it will force the people to reach out to and embrace a religiously controlled government to save the nation. Agitation that we have slaughtered millions of unborn and we have perverted marriage and .... ad infinitum... trying to let the "believers" know the hand of God is coming against this nation and all the troubles that come will just cause everyone to turn to God in compliance so He can make our nation great again. This is not a new thing or a new pattern of human behavior in the microcosm or the macrocosm. The church will appear about to fall..... corporately. But it is Christ in the church that stands and will never fall Christ is already completely victorious. The shaking will shake everything that can be shaken and Christ alone in this world cannot be shaken. If every shaking leaves you holding more tightly to the Savior you can say in trembling... let it come. We are just flesh and blood, and Christ alone, the word filled with the Holy Spirit bringing Christ home to our hearts and lives is our everything.

Circumcision itself never became a tradition of man; but NOT circumcising on Sabbath became a tradition of man. Healing the sick and injured itself never became a tradition of man; but NOT doing it on the Sabbath did. The rabbi's took the blessing of God's law and turned it into a tradition of man, thus turning the blessing of Sabbath into a burden.
