Appellate Court Rules Against Florist
Gary K and 2 others reacted to bonnie for a topic
I wonder what the response by some here would be a florist or baker refusing to honor a request by the KKK celebrating a KKK rally? Do the same rules apply? Would Jesus attend, bake a cake, provide special arrangements to honor their request? There are still some that feel strongly that compliance with a law that violates what they believe is God's law, they choose God's law. They are not attempting to shut down anyone, those that scream tolerance and love at every opportunity do everything possible to ruin someone's life, reputation or business I custom make incontinent products for the mentally and physically handicapped. When I started I was totally unaware of organized groups dealing with baby and diaper fetishes. At this time I am not forced to deal with those groups but they can and do make it difficult. A great deal of money can be made catering to their fetishes. All legal and becoming more and more accepted. Just another acceptable lifestyle. I absolutely will not knowingly provide the products they require, altho I do provide similar for those in need. That is discrimination no matter how you look at it based on my personal beliefs. These groups do hold special functions and get togethers, part of that is sharing favorite providers of baby products for those choosing to wear diapers as adults and even those wanting to "learn how to be incontinent" so they fit into the group. Would Jesus help facilitate their celebrations? Should a florist or bakery be effectively sued out of existence for not wanting any part of that? Hasn't happened yet as far as I know but what would be the difference? Sometime ago I turned down a very large order from a mother wishing to have me make some needed products(questionable) in very feminine diapers/patterns/ruffles and hair bows for her special needs son. She had let his hair grow and thought bows for his now pigtails would look so cute. Nothing illegal, call it discrimination/hate/bigot or whatever,I would not have any part of something like that. Doesn't affect my life or my children, but voluntarily or sued I would not do it. Recently a member of one of these groups wanted me to make baby rompers in xl mens size. Sizable amount of money involved, requesting enough room in the seat area so when they wore them with heavily padded diapers they would waddle like a baby. Perhaps Jesus would honor the request but somehow I don't think so. And yes,I made a judgement and discriminated. Not their eternal life,I made a judgement call on their behavior and what they were requesting me to do. I would not provide decorated cakes for their occasion or provide my services as a photographer3 points -
In A Coma & Aware
GayatfootofCross reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
The following contains raw language not normally allowed in Club Adventist posts. If you will object to such language, please do not click on the link. People often wonder the extent to which people who are in a coma are aware of what is going on in the mind of the person. The following is a report of a teen-age male who was in a coma for 30 days. It is his report of what was going on in his mind during that 30 day period and of the events that happened as he came out of the coma. Jeffrey Johnston is a close relative of mine. At about the age of 15, he sustained a traumatic brain injury that was expected to result in his death, or at best in his being a vegetable. But, against all odds, he woke up. He spent the next 20 years in rehab, and 10 years of this was in a wheel chair. He now is a runner, has a MA degree, is employed by the State of California, is an accomplished photographer with an Internet presence and a writer. During much of that time in the coma he shared the room with a Hispanic person who had female relative visiting him around the clock and who spoke often to Jeffrey, in Spanish. As a result, when Jeffrey woke up, he had learned to speak some Spanish. Again, his language is raw. U.S. Denominational Racial Diveristy
phkrause reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
See: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/07/27/the-most-and-least-racially-diverse-u-s-religious-groups/ The above research studies the racial diversity that exists in the religious denominational groups in the United States. Some 30 groups were rated on a scale that toped out at 10. The highest rated group rated a 9.1 and the lowest rated group rated a 0.2. Of the top five rated groups, only the top one would be generally rated as a Christian group. It rated a 9.1 and was the . . . . . denomination. The 2nd Christian group, Catholics, was rated # 6 in the listing. NOTE: This section of Club Adventist is expected not to discuss theology. This post is considered to be about sociology and not about theology. Please limit any discussion to that area. NOTE: The above article contains several links to other aspects religious diversity to include global diversity.1 point -

oh c'mon now. The duck-billed platypus was one of God's ways of having fun with His creation. When explorers first saw it, they thought the platypus to be one of the most ridiculous, yet awesome quirks of nature. In a way, it *can* be thought of as a satirical creation, because it shows how something that looks ridiculous is actually an endearing creature. That's one of the things that satire does: it takes a favored view, either positive or negative, and shows how silly that original view could be. It doesn't mean the *object* of the satire is silly — just the notions that *we* tend to project onto the object might be silly or illogical.1 point -

I think what we are seeing is full blown hypocrisy on the part of the left. If it were not so, why is Ivanka Trump's line of clothing being dropped out of many stores and you would be a bit pressed to find a reason other than the hysteria over Donald Trump. Regarding the florist, she had sold flowers to these men before and they knew her. Why they would turn on her like they did was hateful. Her refusal to make flower arrangements for a gay wedding was more than just selling something off the shelf. She would have had to personally spend time and artistic talent and endeavor to create something she found to be wrong. No one should be compelled to do something they personally find repulsive.1 point -

God's word is sure and certain. Your word is not, and neither is mine. We are both human and subject to misunderstanding as to what the Bible says.1 point -

I woul I would like to respectfully propose a 4th way: Some of us - admittedly using 20/20 hindsight - feel that Mrs. White was just plain mistaken in some of her prophetic interpretations. For example: 1. Applying the "day for a year" principle to all prophecy rather than just the two instances where the Bible itself specifies it. 2. Related to the above, giving any credence to Christ's entrance into the Most Holy Place in October 1844; when Hebrews clearly and abundantly testifies that He entered it upon His ascension into heaven. 3. Taking a preterist/historical view of Daniel and revelation rather than afuturist view that these visions are for the "end of time" as stated 3 times in Daniel 8 and once in Daniel 11. 4. Issue 3 leads directly to SDA's insisting that the papacy and RCC are the antichrist/beast power of the end -times. I understand that part of Mrs. White's interpretations are associated with the culture of her times; and I find her to be a very inspiring author. I simply have problems with common SDA culture that her writings stand on equal (or near equal) par with scripture.1 point -

their are occupations i would not seek because of my convictions, i would not be bartender in a bar, i would not choose to be a pole dancer, i would not seek to be a military commander and lead others onto a battle field, outside of the system i would not start dealing drugs, or run a tobacco shop or work in one, i would not work in a liqueur store, i would not join a rock and roll band, i would not be a bouncer in a bar. i would not be employed in a house of prostitution in Nevada, or be the madame, or run an escort service. i would not choose to be in a job that required non essential to life services on Sabbath. the conviction that i do not agree with living the homosexual lifestyle does not mean i will not provide public services to those so living. if i was a personal home caregiver, i would not refuse a patient because they were living the gay lifestyle. it in no way means that i like that they are doing if i serve them. should doctors not accept gay patients because they don't like their lifestyle? is it conscience or homophobia?1 point -
The Frog--Prince
Ellen reacted to Kevin H for a topic
Once upon a time there was this handsome prince. As you probably guessed by the title he offended the wrong person and "ZAP" he was turned into a frog. Of course the cure was to have a pretty girl kiss him so that he can return into being the handsome young prince. The frog went on his quest to find a pretty girl to restore him, but try as he might nothing worked. At first the frog got oh so discouraged, but he did not let his discouragement daunt his quest. He continued to persevere on. As time went by he did not seem to get any closer to meeting the pretty girl who could free him from the spell, however he learned the virtues of humility and kindness. He made friends with other frogs and came to realize that life as a frog was not that bad. While he still hoped to find the pretty girl to restore to a prince, he decided that he would still do ok through life if he had to live it as a frog. One day he and his other frog friends went to a fair, and the frog went in to see the fair's fortune teller. She looked into her crystal ball and said "I see that soon you are going to meet a pretty girl who is going to want to learn everything about you/" At these words his heart leaped and glowed with hope. While he no longer minded being a frog, he still had the hope of being restored to the prince that he was, and now having learned the lessons of humility and kindness he knew that he would be a much better prince than he ever was before. Words had a hard time finding his lips, but he finally asked "Can you see where and when I will meet her?" the fortune teller again looked into the Crystal ball and said "Next term's biology class."1 point -
Can a Christian be demon possessed?
JoeMo reacted to rudywoofs (Pam) for a topic
Yes, possible....but that would be based on choices one makes. (I'm not in agreement with the idea of "generational curses" made by Satan.) Not particularly "influenced" if by that word you mean "led" — but as Joemo stated, definitely, a Christian can be harassed by demons.1 point -
Op-Ed: How Abolishing the Johnson Amendment Would Harm Religious Liberty
phkrause reacted to debbym for a topic
this is on topi regarding the issue of Christianity and politics. https://kimberlystover.com/2017/02/15/if-being-a-christian-means-xyz-then-i-am-not-a-christian/ In his book, Thy Kingdom Come: How the Religious Right Distorts Faith and Threatens America, Randall Balmer cites Billy Graham’s concern about a marriage between the political right and religious fundamentalism. Billy Graham warned, “I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it.” Parade Magazine, 1981. His profound warning is exactly what is happening in our current culture. GOP policy and agenda has manipulated good people into succumbing to the perversion of Jesus’ teachings for monetary gain. Therefore, I resist with a poem: If being a Christian means I have to deny healthcare to another human being, then I am not a Christian.''' ........1 point -

While I have in the past posted satire here at ClubAdventist, I think a bit different now. Since the church is compared to the bride of Jesus, how do you think Jesus feels when satire is used against His bride? Does it fall into a violation of the 3rd commandment? Hopefully, this is not too simplistic, but could you sit next to Jesus and share the humor with Him? It is said sometimes "gallows" humor helps people to reduce stress. Really? There is no other way to "get over it"? Paul said to forbear (to be patient or self-controlled when subject to annoyance or provocation) one another. Just a thought ...1 point
