Is there lard in the beans?

Thank you! My goodness! Gustave. All your posts up here! One of the things I bring up in my circle are these scriptures! (it goes over like dead weight as I mentioned before ) Paul tells the Believers/Gentiles or at least missionaries to the Gentiles. "If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience". I Cor 10:27 -uhh THE OP QUESTION! and Even JESUS Himself does away with all that with "When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you." Luke 10:8 Knowing full well just on the other side of the lake they are all about the swine in food and trade. Mark 5 and Shane said something earlier here .. (I noticed this scripture years ago when I started looking at things differently on how God relates to us and how we to reflect HIM.. ) " We might well note that gentile nations ate pork and the eating of unclean meat was not listed among the prohibitions in Acts 15:29 " Why don't any of these WORDS of GOD fly?

Offending someone who invited you to dinner is a sure-fire way to be casually left off the invitation list next time...and the time after that, and the time after that...

  3. Some Religious leaders Tend to keep quiet when the Poor and most Volunarable people are being oppressed I don't think this is true. I remember the Founders of the SDA Church decided to break Civil laws during the times of Slavery and they protected slaves. Do we still have people that can do the same today?

Is there lard in the beans?

Well said Aubrey. God could care less if someone eats a shrimp or a pork chop - God cares how we treat others and while food laws was serious stuff for the Jews it became a dead system after Christ.

Because they are tasty & statistically you're less likely to get a "food borne illness" from that than you are poultry... ...Poultry by itself has caused more food borne illness & death than all "filtration system" animals combined. The point St. Paul makes is that food ISN'T [ after Christ ] what should separate people... ...If you don't like clams or lobsters don't eat them - but don't offend people who invite you to dinner. ...By informing them you don't eat garbage [ like they do ].

    Johnsson's New Book

Johnson's book is very interesting, a book every person with a passion for the church ought to read; highly recommended. However, this is a book that probably won't be read by the ones that would benefit the most from it, some people will be put off because Johnson obviously is positive to women's ordination and interfaith relations. But this is a shame, because this book is about a lot more than ordination and how we relate to people from other religions. The chapters about organization and mission are thought-provoking in a positive way, even if you disagree with Johnson about ordination these two chapters alone are reason enough to pick up the book.

Liver & onions were anathema. Eating liver is like eating an oil filter. Hominy didn't get real high marks either.

Is there lard in the beans?

I've recently retired and moved into a luxurious retirement community, where our meals are served in a fine dining room from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. I'm the only Adventist living here; and I'm the only vegetarian. When other residents ask me about my dietary habits, and why I make those particular choices, I explain that my food choices are based on the Biblical rules: all plant-based, plus eggs and cheese, but omitting any scavenger meat or shellfish. [I myself don't care for any meat at all, but if I'm pressed, I explain that I have at times eaten beef and chicken, which are not prohibited by the Bible.] The waiters have come to be familiar with my choices, and sometimes they've intercepted something which I had ordered without knowing [the salad dressing had bacon chips, for instance, in it.] BTW, if anybody from Adventistan wants to come for a visit, just send me a letter here. I can entertain people for meals whenever I plan ahead. And the town is a lovely town for sightseeing.

What is the purpose of church membership?

The purpose of "church" was originally for the assembling of ourselves together with fellow believers. Ideally, when you go to your church, you would feel like you are coming home, gathering with people who know you and care for you. I would guess that there is a percentage in every congregation who does not have that feeling of belonging. Some of them stick by because they were born to it or it is in their culture. Some eventually leave, sometimes because they have tried to offer to be part of the working body, but their talents are not desired. I think of one who was a musician at one church, who eventually left because his style of music was a bit too contemporary for the saints. I think of others who for one reason or another are made to feel invisible. A handshake and a "Happy Sabbath" at the door do not suffice. One of the best "churches" I ever attended was in my own house. We called it a Bible Study, but it was a meal, singing, and Bible Study. A number of times over the years I heard my friends say, "This is my church." They went to church on Sabbath, but they felt loved at my house (unlike church at the time).

IF God directly tells you to avoid some article of food, and you go out to eat it, is that NOT rebellion against God? Aren't you saying to God - "I don't CARE what you want" ?? You don't think God would be "hurt" by this attitude towards Him. Wouldn't that hurt your relationship with God? The ancient Israelites did not know those laws were about "health". They thought they were about separation from the pagans around them. We just came to understand the association with "health" recently - in the overall scheme of things. We can all point to incidents of "straining at gnats". I clearly remember, after 7 years of absence from ANY church, my first visit to the SDA church in Wichita Falls (back in 1981). I had my ears pierced and had worn the same very small pair of pearl earings for years. I no longer even thought about them. Anyway - I ducked out early because I didn't want to visit with anyone. On the steps, as I was leaving, I ran into the head elder (wearing a large honcho belt by the way). He asked if I was Adventist. I told him I was baptized Adventist. He reached over and tweeked my earlobe. "I guess you won't need those anymore." Of all the things to bring up, and in such a disgusting way!!! Satan PUT that man on the steps, hoping to turn me away forever, both from Adventistm and from Jesus. It almost worked!

    The Alpha & Omega

Easily answered B/W photodude Signs of the Times, 1912, Vol 39 # 32 3829 — Is The Holy Spirit A Personality? Question: Can't we say that the Holy Spirit is a personality, as long as the personal pronoun is attributed to it? T. A. Z. Answer: The use of the personal pronoun is not of itself proof that the Holy Spirit is a personality, and yet the work of the Spirit is the work of a personality. By the Spirit both the Father and the Son come personally to every soul that receives the Spirit. In that wonderful sense which no human being can comprehend, the Spirit comes to each soul as a personality. And yet it does not have what we would call human personality of being in one place only at one time, that is, such personality as has our Lord Himself — in one place as He is in no other place. The Holy Spirit may be in any number of places at one and the same time, bringing the special presence of God in each of those places. In the office of the "Signs of the Times" there are fourteen different telephones all connecting with the manager. The manager may connect all these with him at one and the same time. He could issue a general order so that the foreman of each department could hear his voice at the same time. In a way he is personally present in every department. Every department hears his voice. The marvelous invention of the telephone makes him present in fifteen different places at the same time. So it is that God's Spirit makes the Father and the Son present in as many different places as God may direct, at one and the same time. We know somewhat of the working. We understand how it is to some extent of the Lord's ways and methods. We see the effects, but we know almost nothing of the nature and the power that Infinity uses to communicate with man. Let us be willing to leave it there. In some instances the Spirit is represented as the great life of God. In some it is spoken of as a power that is poured out and shed forth. To the individual it comes as the representative of the personal God. Therefore it may be spoken of as a personality, and looking at it from another view-point, as not a personality Revew and Herald, Sept 6, 1892 Is God a Spirit? Question: If God is a spirit (John 4:24) and at the same time a person (Dan 7:9) would not the same reasoning prove that the Holy Spirit is a PERSON as referred to in John 4: 26? Answer: NO - For God is elsewhere described and represented as a Person; but the Holy Spirit is not. The fact that the Holy Spirit is personified John 14 and thus spoken of as acting in a personal and individual manner does NOT prove it to be a person any more than the fact that love is spoken of in 1 Cor 13 as performing certain acts and exercising certain emotions, prove that charity or love is
