Actually Gregory you just got the point. I am supporting the family because their religious right is being violated but I am also saying that the fact is the husband was an illegal immigrant and if the law says he must be deported then I think the husband broke the law first even before his religious beliefs are being violated.2 points -

The nature of the Holy Spirit
phkrause reacted to LifeHiscost for a topic
The only response I can make myself is to ask why didn't Jesus just say say, I will guide you into all Truth if there was no difference between the Holy Spirit and Himself? And Jesus also says it will not be on be on His own authority, which it was Jesus Himself it would have been on His own authority. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come....John 16 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.....Matthew 28 OTOH we'll have all eternity to explore the attributes of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and we still will not have plumbed the vastness of the only God Who is Love. I'm looking forward to meeting you there. God is Love!~Jesus saves!1 point -

Dangers of Water Baptism
Zach Wasaka reacted to Zach Wasaka for a topic
I have never seen anyone getting sick or any kind of infection after baptism however when it comes to Natural water bodies there might be a risk of Man eaters in that kind of water and at the same time it can't be treated. But water in the swimming pool can easily be treated.1 point -

SDA Family at Center of Litigation
Stan reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
A SDA family in Texas is at the center of a lawsuit that alleges that the deportation policy of the administration violates their religious beliefs. I consider this case to be both interesting and novel--that is not a positive statement. For detail on this specific case see: http://spectrummagazine.org/article/2017/06/28/adventist-faith-center-trumps-immigration-battle1 point -
SDA Family at Center of Litigation
Stan reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
If your point is that their religious rights are being violated, then you may not understand U.S. Constitutional law. They will likely lose on this point. There are other points of law on which they may have the potential to win. I, personally hope that they do win. But, I predict that it will not be on the basis of their religious rights.1 point -

On what do you support the family and think that they are correct? Do you think that the person should not be deported? That is one issue that is valid and needs discussion, litigation or whatever. Or, do you support the family in litigating on the basis that their religious rights have been violated? If this is your position, you are on very weak legal ground.1 point -

To me, and I have said this before, I ask the question who is man who he thinks he can define God using human words, a concept that is bigger than we can think. It is like the smartest ant telling outer ants how a super computer works. He can only use ant words and concepts. It is called the mystery for a purpose. It is like how can God always be? That makes our mind go blank as it fails to comprehend.1 point -

Reduce Auto Insurance Cost
LifeHiscost reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
Well, Life, you have brought to my attention a new method of obtaining automobile insurance of which I was not aware. For more information see: https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/insurance/reviews/metromile-review/ It should be noted that this company is only licensed to do business in seven (7) U.S. States. It also appears that this company is financially stable and has a very high rate of customer complaints. It appears that this insurance is most effective for people who drive less than 10,000 mile a year. As the mileage increases, so does the monthly cost. The company charge consists of a flat monthly rate, plus an additional charge for every mile that one drives. The mileage driven is determined by a device attached to your car that transmits the mileage driven directly to the company. It looks to me like this company is most effective for people who want the minimal amount of automobile insurance required by State law. Any person who is a homeowner, will probably need a larger amount of insurance which would potentially not be good insurance from this company, if it offers the level of increased coverage that is needed. IOW, you have given us an alternative that may fit the needs of some people, but may not be good for all reading this.1 point -

If there was one change the Church could do in 2017
aka reacted to Green Cochoa for a topic
I agree almost fully with this portion of your post. There are other portions which I believe detract significantly from this message--and introduce an element of confusion, as if marching to the beat of a different drum is good. Before I read your post, I was about to present my thoughts relative to the question for this thread that ran along the same lines as what I've quoted you saying above. However, I will be a little more focused, perhaps, on the specifics of the change that I see as needed most. I believe the church most needs a change in structural philosophy. The church must cease and desist from its continual efforts to centralize, to organize under a single leadership entity or organization, to legitimize and enforce "memorandums of understanding" upon supporting ministries in an effort to essentially annex them to the church, and in general to "bureaucratize" the work of the Lord's servants. As examples of what should NOT be done, that the church has recently done, I would remember the following: -- Annex the ASI organization to become an arm of the church under the General Conference (so much for the "laymen" organization) -- Merge the Review and Herald Publishing Association into the Pacific Press Publishing Association, essentially closing it -- Force supporting ministries to sign agreements called "memorandums of understanding" (MOUs) in order to authorize their work and cooperation with the church -- Centralize all financial decisions and support of local church efforts to institutions hundreds or thousands of miles away who are out-of-touch with the local needs -- Insist that tithes may only be paid to the local Conference and may not be forwarded to other conferences or missions of the church around the world -- Prohibit churches from forwarding donations to independent or supporting ministries -- Enforce only the official use of the name "Adventist" upon all worldwide, including schools, websites, etc., such that only the church's official branches and organizations may legally use it -- Automatically deduct tithe monies from workers' salaries, procedurally, usually without the individuals' ability to choose otherwise (you sign the consent to get the job) All of the above represent efforts toward control, control, control. These efforts come under the "kingly power" designation used by Mrs. White to decry them. They will NOT help to further the Lord's work around the world. Several of the above are outright sins of which we are informed through Mrs. White, yet the church has gone forward with them, full knowing what she said (not sins of ignorance).1 point
