Do You Think Campmeetings are Outdated

I still enjoy campmeeting. Some of the best have been at various Feasts of Tabernacles held at that time of the year. I don't know why, but it seems the best sermons are by given at campmeetings. I also went to Soquel for quite a few years, staying in the tents on the hillside. My young daughters enjoyed it, too, but when I observed the spirit and antics of the teens attending, I vowed I would not take my girls there when they were older, and I didn't. Not many people can tolerate sitting for hours listening to sermons. Lately we tend to sit in our RV and listen to the sermons that are broadcast from the main tent, if that is available. We enjoy fellowship with friends we seldom see at any other time. Not many leaders know how to attract teens to spiritual things, especially at camp meeting when the availability of friends and socialization seems to overshadow all. It's a huge dilemma.

The nature of the Holy Spirit

I absolutely believe that we will never completely understand God. How will we grow and learn for all eternity, if we "know" it all? For me, learning something new, or connecting a new "dot" is pure joy. For me, "Heaven" is not just green pastures and tame animals and a beautiful City. It is learning for all eternity.

    Reminds me of Daniel

Two wrongs never make a right. So often peoploe try to make an issue " either-or", when it is neither, to distract from what is apparent.

    Adventist Pastor & Novelist

He is a retired SDA pastor and professor. In his ministry, he now writes as a novelist. He has published several books and other materials. His most recent novel has been published by a SDA publishing house in Italy. He would like to translate his writing into English and have them published in English speaking countries, but has not been able to do that yet. See: https://conversation.spectrummagazine.org/t/italian-pastor-turned-novelist-searches-for-wider-audience/13780 You just might be surprised at what you read.

Ian-Spain: You are welcome to tell your story. You set the boundaries of the conversation by establishing how your respond and what you post. As to my error, the thought behind my incorrect statement was the following which Dr. George Knight has done much better in his statement:

    Foreign Superstitions

Good Gracious! Where are Americans going next? Superstition is the belief in supernatural causality. It’s belief that one event causes another without any natural process linking the two events. No reasonable logic. We find superstitions in such as astrology, religion, omens, witchcraft, prophecies. Superstition is that which contradicts natural science. Superstitions are found in fortune-cookies, having a preserved rabbit’s foot, having a pressed four-leaf clover, doing nothing on Friday 13, a lucky penny, breaking a mirror, etc.

  14. lol, 46 gang murders is 6 years. Every American would be excited to have those stats. The article proves the opposite of what you saying. The whole of Sweeden is safer than any large Conservative city in the USA. LOL. Mesa, Arizona, the most conservative city in USA had 90 murders in the same period.

I thought Trump was going to make America great again. All the poor people are gone from the government. The rich know how to run the economy.

    Socialized medicine at its finest

EL PASO, Texas (Reuters) The mayor and police chief of a small town on the U.S.-Mexico border were among 11 suspects indicted for allegedly trafficking around 200 guns to Mexico, authorities said on Thursday. The U.S. Attorney's office in New Mexico said the mayor of Columbus, Eddie Espinoza, the town's police chief Angelo Vega, and village trustee Blas Gutierrez were among those arrested on an 84-count indictment. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-mexico-guns-idUSTRE72A0BR20110311 From 2009 to 2014, more than 73,600 guns seized in Mexico were from the United States, according to a 2016 report from the Government Accountability Office, the congressional watchdog over the federal government. More than 13,600 were confirmed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to have originated in Texas. But that figure could be higher — the report also states that because of factors like altered serial numbers on weapons and incomplete information on records, the states of origin could only be traced for about 45 percent of the U.S. total. https://www.texastribune.org/2016/12/07/gun-running-bsp-part-4/ In fact, I-95 is so notorious for gun trafficking, it's called the "Iron Pipeline." Guns from Florida and Georgia head north to be sold for big bucks in states with stricter gun laws. http://www.news4jax.com/news/investigations/i-team-exposes-massive-gun-smuggling-operation

The nature of the Holy Spirit

Yes LHC. Guess we will just have to wait til we get "There". If it is "not essential for us to know" (according to EGW) then it cannot be a salvational issue. Thanks for the debate. RC

It is poor argument to take one extreme case and use it to say a system does not work. I'm sure you would say that Sandy Hook proves that the second amendment should be abolished.

    Reminds me of Daniel

Not only Cyrus but also Ahasuerus who married Esther and later appointed Mordecai as prime minster over the entire Persian empire. It was through the political intrigue at his court that God used the ruthless and cruel ruler of a world dominating empire to save His people. President Trump in all his defects is angelic compared to those guys.

Do You Think Campmeetings are Outdated

Until recent years what we call "magic" as in the performing arts was considered a form of Juggling. The magic the Bible warns against are things where people are doing things such as casting spells, reaching out to a supernatural power etc. What people like the Fellowship of Christian magicians do is like other ways to illustrate stories. And these illusions are only one art form of study in Fellowship of Christian Magicians. Others include Chock drawings (I remember growing up in church we had a lady who did wonderful chock drawings and I wish we had more young people who can do this art form.) face painting, juggling, ballooning (Is that deception since they fool you into making the balloons look like different objects?) puppets, ventriloquism, clowning, drama/mime/storytelling, as well as illusions. HMS Richards Jr. was quite an accomplished magician in the entertainment form and his father a big fan of magicians.

    Reminds me of Daniel

I was NOT SAYING that Donald Trump is a "godly man". (I very much doubt he is.) I was just trying to picture the conspiracy against Daniel, and what popped into my mind was all the frenzy against President Trump. That's it. That's where the comparison ends. God also called Cyrus "His anointed". The OT says very little concerning the character of Cyrus. We know he led a powerful army, that probably killed thousands. What we do know is that Cyrus was "anointed", chosen, empowered - by the LORD - to do a job, to return the Jews to their land, and to support the rebuilding of His Temple. Cyrus' action preserved the Jews as a distinct people, and prepared the way for Messiah. Isaiah 45:1 "Thus says the LORD to His anointed, To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held-- To subdue nations before him And loose the armor of kings, To open before him the double doors, So that the gates will not be shut:" Can you say - with certainty - that the LORD has NOT "anointed" Donald Trump to do a job - that will end up supporting God's people in some way. Perhaps bringing down some horrible dictator regime that persecutes HIS people. We just don't know - yet.
