Generic Christianity

Out of context, expected. There was no threat. A simple statement about not being able to eat again from the Tree of Life. Without it, they would not keep on living, hence its removal. Does anyone see a threat in John 3:16 or the many other words from Christ about requirements for salvation? Christ came to take away the threats insinuated by Satan and gave people the true reason for following Him. God wants no one to serve him out of fear as implied by the use of the above texts with out context.3 points -

Joe, I have mixed feelings about your response. I had been thinking of contacting the woman and telling her that I did not need the money and she should send it to you. But, after that response from you, I think that I will tell her to only offer you 1/2 of the amount and to give the rest to someone else.3 points -

The Bible doesn't say that the Canaanites were annihilated, though. Crowing that surviving Canaanite DNA disproves something that the Bible doesn't actually say, merely shows poor reading comprehension.2 points -

Rachel introduces an important issue in her post which I have quoted below: In many ways, I believe that the heavenly beings and those that populate the Universe in effect have been witness to a trial in which God has, so to speak, been on trial. The charge against God: 1) God is unjust. 2) If given freedom of choice, God's created beings would not chose to spend eternity with God. 3) As sinners, God can not fairly bring humanity back into an eternal life and at the same time refuse eternal life to those heavenly beings who rebelled in heaven in ages past. With the death of Christ on the cross, I believe that all of the heavenly beings and those who populate the Universe now agree that sinful humanity, along with those previously expelled form heaven, are justly separated from God and separated from eternal life. As of the cross, one issue remained to be determined: Is it true that sin has been removed from the lives of a group of sinful human beings in a manner that it can be assured that none of these, if restored to eternal life, will ever rebel again? In my thinking, this is what is determined in the so-called Investigative Judgement. It is not that each sinful person is determined to be perfect. Rather, it is that it is determined that the root nature of the rebellion had been removed from each of these saved persons and they may justly be returned to an eternal life with God and the other unfallen beings (persons) of the Universe. It is God, in all fullness that is on trial in the so-called Investigative Judgment, not individuals humans. Each saved person today can rest in the assurance that at the Cross salvation was provided and one is saved. NOTE: While I am stating it slightly differently from Rachel, there is substantial agreement between she and I. Any disagreement between us is minor.2 points -

LHC Why would you post something so blatantly anti-Catholic? Open your eyes to what's going on in the world! How many bands of marauding Catholics going around beheading people? That is the exclusive activity of another religion predominant in the Middle East. A Friday Law is more likely than a Sunday Law. In fact, a virtual Friday Law is already in place for over a billion people on this planet. What are you gonna believe - the outdated predictions from a time when the Catholic Church was hated by everyone except Catholics, or the reality of what is going on in the world right now?1 point -

Look around! The articles you yourself have posted about modern weaponry declare satan's rulership over the world. The overwhelming poverty, corruption, disease, war, natural disasters, godlessness, etc. all over the world. Christ might have dominion over the hearts of those that let Him in, but He certainly hasn't exerted that dominion over the earth yet. Either that, or the fruits of His dominion are not at all what I expected. Jesus might be King of kings over all things; but He has yet to subdue the one who currently holds the keys to this planet that he stole from Adam. Kinda like Donald Trump is President of the United States; but he certainly doesn't have dominion over it. (Don't read anything political into that - it's just a strained analogy.)1 point -
Why the Jews Rejected Jesus by F.C. Gilbert
JoeMo reacted to Ron Amnsn for a topic
Maybe you should have a Jewish rabbi explain it to you. If you were to read Christian writings from the same time period, you could probably find some humor, circular logic, convoluted arguments, and contradictory beliefs there as well. The difference is that we as Christians don't generally study our historical documents, but simply accept the traditions, doctrines, and interpretations that were concocted centuries ago by men we might scorn if we met them today. And we accept those handed-down teachings without testing them by Scripture, and without even knowing what other traditions, doctrines, and interpretations preceded the ones we accept. It sounds like you think studying the Talmud is a waste of time, yet that is what your rabbi-turned-Adventist author was educated in from his youth. You seem to mock the Talmud, yet you insist that by spending decades studying the Talmud and other Jewish literature your rabbi-turned-Adventist author somehow gained a huge over-powering advantage as a scholar over those who spent decades studying Scripture instead. Yes, a Jewish rabbi will know much more about Jewish thought and culture than I do, so I wouldn't disagree with them regarding their area of expertise. But when the person who was raised a Jew leaves his area of expertise and ventures into the area of Christian doctrines and traditions (such as the inaccurate premise that "the Jews rejected Jesus"), a Christian shouldn't feel over-powered by a former Jewish rabbi. One of the comments made by the rabbi I've been listening to was that when he meets someone who knows a lot about [Old Testament] Scripture he says to them, "You're not a Jew are you? You know too much about Scripture to be a Jew." He doesn't mean that there are no Jewish scholars who know Scripture well, but that in general being raised an Orthodox Jew often gives a person a lot of knowledge about Jewish folklore, Talmud, and tradition, rather than a knowledge of Scripture.1 point -
The Fool's Prayer

Thomas R. Lounsbury, ed. (1838–1915). Yale Book of American Verse. 1912. Edward Rowland Sill. 1841–1887 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Rowland_Sill 206. The Fool's Prayer THE ROYAL feast was done; the King Sought some new sport to banish care, And to his jester cried: "Sir Fool, Kneel now, and make for us a prayer!" The jester doffed his cap and bells, 5 And stood the mocking court before; They could not see the bitter smile Behind the painted grin he wore. He bowed his head, and bent his knee Upon the monarch's silken stool; 10 His pleading voice arose: "O Lord, Be merciful to me, a fool! "No pity, Lord, could change the heart From red with wrong to white as wool; The rod must heal the sin: but, Lord, 15 Be merciful to me, a fool! "'T is not by guilt the onward sweep Of truth and right, O Lord, we stay; 'T is by our follies that so long We hold the earth from heaven away. 20 "These clumsy feet, still in the mire, Go crushing blossoms without end; These hard, well-meaning hands we thrust Among the heart-strings of a friend. "The ill-timed truth we might have kept— 25 Who knows how sharp it pierced and stung? The word we had not sense to say— Who knows how grandly it had rung? "Our faults no tenderness should ask, The chastening stripes must cleanse them all; 30 But for our blunders—oh, in shame Before the eyes of heaven we fall. "Earth bears no balsam for mistakes; Men crown the knave, and scourge the tool That did his will; but Thou, O Lord, 35 Be merciful to me, a fool!" The room was hushed; in silence rose The King, and sought his gardens cool, And walked apart, and murmured low, "Be merciful to me, a fool!" 40 Came across a quote from this poem (bold texted) in "Thoughts from the Mount of Blessings" and couldn't resist tracking down the source of the quote. It seems that Ellen White was given to reading poetry. (I recently posted another quote tracked down from "Thoughts from the Mount of Blessings".1 point -

Satan enjoys tormenting God's creation, because he knows that God feels our pain. I don't believe that Satan wants to kill us - just torment. The problem for Satan is that he can't stop himself. He is like one of those sociopaths who is disappointed when his victim dies. And we are dying. When the last "witness" is either dead or imprisoned, that is when it's over. Daniel 12:7 "when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things will be finished". ("These things" - meaning the last "time, times, and a part" of the Beast's rule.) If the BEAST is ruling over "every nation, kindred, tongue and people" on earth, then Christ is NOT. For now - Christ has been made "head of all things to the church". The beginning of Christ's reign on earth, coincides with the 7th trumpet of Revelation (Rev. 11:15).1 point -

Rachel (8th Day Priest) holds to some theological views that are outside of mainline Adventism. She is well grounded in her views and well able to defend them against those who differ with her. Club Adventist, as it was once called does not generally exclude people simply because they differ with main-line SDA belief. People who are excluded from participation here are generally excluded based upon how they relate to others and/or how they post. Rachel has conducted herself well within the guidelines that Club Adventist has. I do not expect her to change the way that she posts and/or relates to people here. And, I do not expect her to be excluded from our fellowship. From my perspective, while I do disagree with Rachel, on some major points, I welcome her here.1 point -
