Why Protestant churches dont keep the Sabbath.

...and continue to disregard it even though its clear it was never changed by God. Almost all the Christian world reverences Sunday, did God know that this attempt to change His holy Sabbath would occur? "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. " Daniel 7:25 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them." Acts 20:28-30 Yes, long ago God predicted that, from within the church itself, corrupt and misguided men would rise up who would attempt to change His holy law. So the prophecy came true as we clearly see in history, and it has come to pas as the Sabbath and those who kept it were swept away with only a faithful few still holding to the true day of worship, and a substitute put in.1 point -

Is The Food Industry Killing Us?
phkrause reacted to Dr. Shane for a topic
I believe the reason obesity has become such a health issue today is because the food industry is making us sick. That said, I am not going to beat up big corporations and lay the blame on them. Big companies are in business to make money. They provide jobs and fuel the economy. They do a fantastic job of getting the food out of the field, packaged and onto our tables. The more I learn about how the food industry works, the more impressed I am with it. I can eat fresh fruit all year long as long as I am geographically in the developed world someplace. The same is true for fresh fish and a host of other foods. The modern food industry does a fantastic job of producing food, bringing it to the market and keeping the cost of it affordable. The reason the food industry is making us sick is because industry provides what consumers want to buy. This is true regardless if it is the textile industry, the automobile industry or the medial industry. Industry supplies products and services that are in demand. So the problem with the food industry is not the big corporations rather the consumers creating and maintaining a demand for products that are making them sick and killing them. As educational efforts have raised the level of health education among consumers, we have seen corporations respond by marketing healthier food choices. Corporations will supply what consumers demand. Consider how the ancients prepared food. They did so with little preparation. Rice and wheat were picked out of the fields and stored in bins. Meat was dried and salted. A stone mill would be used to grind wheat into flour producing what today would be considered whole grain flour. Potatoes, beans, lintels and such were tossed in a pot of water and boiled. Very little oil was used in the normal preparation of food. The lack of refining resulted in food that was healthier and more filling. Consumers today demand food that goes beyond being tasty. The ancients would have never considered boiling potatoes in oil and yet French fries are staples in the diets of many people today. Ancient humans could not have imagined a jelly-filled doughnut with sprinkles on top. Think of all the refining that has to happen for such an edible product. Pastry flour is super refined. The sugar is refined. The gelatin is refined. The artificial color is refined. Consumers love it. In fact, they are literally dying for it. The big corporations are not the bad guys. As soon as consumers stop demanding jelly-filled doughnuts, the corporations will stop making them. The big problem with all these refined foods are that they are not filling and not nutritious. So people have to eat more of them. I can go to McDonald's and order a Big Mac that has nearly 600 calories or I can stay home and make my own Big Mac that has 100 calories less. My Big Mac would be made with vegetarian patties of beans and grains. Instead of cheese, my Big Mac has avocado, it has the lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions too. My bun is whole wheat containing a good amount of fiber and protein and less carbohydrates then the refined bun from McDonald's. Here is the big difference. My Big Mac is a meal in itself. It doesn’t need a side order of fries. And it will satisfy hunger longer than the McDonald's Big Mac. I can eat less calories, get more nutrition and be hungry less by eating a healthy diet. Eating the right food means I don’t have to eat as much of it. The recommended calorie intake for women is 2,000 and for men it is 2,500. That is plenty of food if a person is making healthy choices. If a person is eating a bunch of refined food it is hard to stay under those amounts without going hungry.1 point -

Why Protestant churches dont keep the Sabbath.

Here are some statements showing who the Protestant churches are following and its not the Bible: "Protestants ... accept Sunday rather than Saturday as the day for public worship after the Catholic Church made the change... But the Protestant mind does not seem to realize that ... in observing Sunday, they are accepting the authority of the spokesman for the Church, the pope." Our Sunday Visitor, February 5th, 1950. This Rock Question: Which is the Sabbath day? Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day. Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday? Answer: We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday. -Rev. Peter Geiermann C.SS.R., The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50 Q. Should not the Protestant doubt when he finds that he himself holds tradition as a guide? A. Yes, if he would but reflect that he has nothing but Catholic Tradition for keeping the Sunday holy; ... Controversial Catechism by Stephen Keenan, New Edition, revised by Rev. George Cormack, published in London by Burns & Oates, Limited - New York, Cincinnati, Chicago: Benzinger Brothers, 1896, pages 6, 7. "The Church, on the other hand, after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath, or seventh day of the week, to the first, made the Third Commandment refer to Sunday as the day to be kept holy as the Lord's Day. The Council of Trent (Sess. VI, can. xix) condemns those who deny that the Ten Commandments are binding on Christians." The Catholic Encyclopedia, Commandments of God, Volume IV, © 1908 by Robert Appleton Company, Online Edition © 1999 by Kevin Knight, Nihil Obstat - Remy Lafort, Censor Imprimatur - +John M. Farley, Archbishop of New York, page 153. ''The [Roman Catholic] Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday. In this matter the Seventh-day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant.'' The Catholic Universe Bulletin, August 14, 1942, p. 4. "All of us believe many things in regard to religion that we do not find in the Bible. For example, nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath Day, that is the 7th day of the week, Saturday. Today most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the Church outside the Bible." The Catholic Virginian, "To Tell You The Truth,” Vol. 22, No. 49 (Oct. 3, 1947). "... you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify." The Faith of Our Fathers, by James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, 88th edition, page 89. Originally published in 1876, republished and Copyright 1980 by TAN Books and Publishers, Inc., pages 72-73. 'Deny the authority of the Church and you have no adequate or reasonable explanation or justification for the substitution of Sunday for Saturday in the Third - Protestant Fourth - Commandment of God... The Church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.'' Catholic Record, September 1, 1923. "But since Saturday, not Sunday, is specified in the Bible, isn't it curious that non-Catholics who profess to take their religion directly from the Bible and not the Church, observe Sunday instead of Saturday? Yes, of course, it is inconsistent; but this change was made about fifteen centuries before Protestantism was born, and by that time the custom was universally observed. They have continued the custom, even though it rests upon the authority of the Catholic Church and not upon an explicit text in the Bible. That observance remains as a reminder of the Mother Church from which the non-Catholic sects broke away - like a boy running away from home but still carrying in his pocket a picture of his mother or a lock of her hair." The Faith of Millions "Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century. The holy day, the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday. "The Day of the Lord" (dies Dominica) was chosen, not from any directions noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church's sense of its own power. The day of resurrection, the day of Pentecost, fifty days later, came on the first day of the week. So this would be the new Sabbath. People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically become 7th Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy." Sentinel, Pastor's page, Saint Catherine Catholic Church, Algonac, Michigan, May 21, 1995 'If Protestants would follow the Bible, they would worship God on the Sabbath Day. In keeping the Sunday they are following a law of the Catholic Church.' Albert Smith, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, replying for the Cardinal, in a letter dated February 10, 1920. 'It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.'Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ on March 18, 1903. This Rock 'Of course these .. quotations are exactly correct. The Catholic Church designated Sunday as the day for corporate worship and gets full credit – or blame ' This Rock,The Magazine of Catholic Apologetics and Evangelization, p.8, June 1997 'The observance of Sunday by the Protestants is homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the [Catholic] Church.' When your house floods

* Your home Owners insurance should pay for your living expenses, such as a hotel, for up to a year, if your home burns down. * Most people do not have Flood Insurance. There are many factors as to cost. I have it and it is less than $450 per year. By the way, flood insurance pays claims for water damage when there was not a flood. * Earthquake Insurance: Actually an earthquake could happen most everywhere. Again, there are many factors that impact on the price. Where I live in California many homes could purchase it for $250 per year * Be aware as to whether or not your policy pays upon loss to bring the new home up to code, as well as to pay additional amounts to build in case of a wide spread disaster when prices go up. .1 point -

Culture & Society in the Time of EGW
phkrause reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
In another thread, comments have been made as to the human element in inspired writings--how inspired writers may have been influenced by their cultures. As has been suggested, this would include Ellen White. For people interested in this, the following book, although old, deals extensively with society and culture in the time of EGW. Gary Land, Editor. The World of Ellen G. White. Review & Herald, 1987, 253 pages. This book may be purchased on Amazon, for $5 and up. See: https://www.amazon.com/World-Ellen-G-White/dp/0828003955/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504186880&sr=8-3&keywords=the+world+of+ellen+g+white+g+white This book is written by some 14 different historians, generally PhD. It does not have EGW as a subject and seldom mentions her. Further, it does not deal with the issue as to how the culture of her time may have influenced her. Rather, it deals with societal issues that may have been important to EGW and to place those potential concerns within the larger context of the society in which she lived. I consider this book to be of immense value in understanding much of what EGW wrote.1 point -
What happens when the Bible is wrong?
phkrause reacted to Kevin H for a topic
I had to leave for work but ended at a good point and time to think before continuing and I am very pleased with the points presented. JoeMo, as for Mrs. White you are right as she did progress. So did the church. God's work with her had to be not only what she was able to understand at the time, but also what the church members could understand. And dealing with people in general, but even more specifically Christians, especially Seventh-day Adventists you have to admit can be compared to trying to herd a bunch of cats. Along with the growth of all of these, she needed to write in one extreme to one group of people and a different extreme to another group trying to get them into a more balanced view. But Fundamentalists read her statements written to the people at the extremes and make that the norm for all Adventists. And getting back to the scriptures, we can ask how may of the 12 spies that were sent to spy out the land was faithful. Were there 2, 1 or 12? Well depends on where you read. In Numbers 10 of the 12 were unfaithful and only Joshua and Caleb were faithful. In Deuteronomy all 12 spies were faithful but the people turned against them and Joshua and Caleb stood up to protect the spies from the people. In some places Joshua is one of the spies in other places it indicates that he was not one of the spies but that Caleb got to enter the land because he was the only faithful spy and Joshua got to enter the land because he was Moses' assistant and the new leader after Moses died, and when doing the conquest Caleb has to say to Joshua "Don't you remember when we spied out the land..." but had to inform Joshua about "When I spied out the land" and explain to Joshua what the spies did and learned when spying out the land. This teaches us that God is very flexible with us. The different Bible writers/Editors had the basic story, 12 went to spy the land but it was not entered at the time until 40 years later and the only ones from the generation that left Egypt to enter the land was Joshua and Caleb, and that just because specific details were forgotten or remembered different ways by different people does not have God having a fit that every nook and cranny of the details have to be exact. Then we have the law of the altars: First they were to build altars but only out of the stones in their natural condition and it was a horrible sin to build an altar out of stones that have been shaped by tools. Later it was ok to build an altar out of stones shaped by tools just as long as they did not build them high enough to need steps, and it was no longer a sin to use shaped stones but it was a horrible sin to build the altar high enough to need steps. Finally we find that pants were developed that the priests could wear under their robes and building altars with shaped stones high enough to need stairs was no longer a sin but fully acceptable. Ever look at the contrast between Leviticus and Deuteronomy? One is built on a very strong General Conference and focused on the General Conference and where worship is very strict and somber and solemn "be still and know that I am God" where the major feasts were on the fall feasts. In the other the General Conference is very weak, and the administrative structure is congregational, worship is with flute, timbrel, tambourine, and dancing. We learn in the Bible that both types of church government and worship styles have their strong and weak points. But instead of learning that lesson we study the Bible for "WHAT IS THE BIBLIAL FORM OF CHURCH GOVERNMENT AND WORSHIP?" and end up either picking up on all the strong General conference texts and says "SEE THE BIBLE COMMANDS US TO HAVE A STRONG GENERAL CONFERENCE!!! AND THE WORSHIP SERVICE NEEDS TO BE SOMBER AND SOLEMN" and others pick up on all the strong congregational texts and says "SEE THE BIBLE TELLS US WE NEED TO BE MORE CONGRAGATIONAL AND HAVE A FAIRLY WEAK GENERAL CONFERENCE!!! AND TO WORSHIP WITH DRUMS, FLUTE, TIMBEREL TAMBOURINE AND DANCING!!!!" Have you ever noticed that we have two conflicting tents of worship in the wilderness? On the one hand there is the sanctuary in the middle where the family of Aaron ministered because God said that wanted to live in the mists of his people, and the tent of the meeting where Moses and his family ministered outside of the camp because God said that it was impossible for him to live in the mists of the people because his presence would kill them. (by the way it was the sanctuary in the mists of the people where worship ended up being very somber, and it was the tent of the meeting away from the people where the people could come and worship with flute, timbrel, tambourine, and dancing. Ever notice the differences between Luke and Mark? While not always, often when telling a story Luke says "Mark has it wrong, this is how it really happened". Although there are also a fair number of places where Luke agrees with Mark, but they are the exception. And in the major structure of the books we really find conflict. In Mark no one knows who Jesus is. Event after event happens and who Jesus is just escapes everybody. Finally Jesus is on the cross, and finally someone gets it, someone finally figures out who Jesus is, the centurion; a man so pagan and Biblically illiterate that he proclaims the truth in a way that would shock any good monotheistic Jew "surely this was a son of the gods" (the way pagans described divine beings.) However in Luke EVERYONE knows who Jesus is, from John the Baptist leaping in Elizabeth's womb, Simeon and Anna and even the demons and demoniacs, to the thief on the cross. While Mark has everyone clueless about Jesus except for the Centurion, in Luke Jesus meets person after person after person and they time after time know who he is. However when we reach the climax of Mark's gospel where finally someone realized who Jesus was, in Luke the Centurion was as clueless as all the other people in Mark and could say nothing more than "He must have been a good man." In a city that was already old deserted ruins by the time of Abraham they found these words: Lift up your heads, O ye gods; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting ones; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? Baal strong and mighty, Baal mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gods; even lift them up, ye everlasting ones; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? Baal of hosts, he is the King of glory. The discovery of the fact that Hebrew was still a living (and not as previously believed dead) language in Jesus' day and translating the Greek back into the Hebrew instead of Aramaic has brought a few interesting discoveries. These include that Jesus quoted the Old Testament far more than we realize. Also, Jesus quoted other rabbis frequently, but instead of just sticking to one school of the rabbis and pushing their views, he picked and choose quotes freely from rabbis from many schools. His talks were like if we were to have a sermon and the pastor kept quoting Stephen Haskell, Elder's Washburn and Wilkinson, Gerhard Hassel, Graham Maxwell, Desmond Ford and Questions on Doctrine. (and if someone was to do that they would probably find themselves crucified just as quickly as Jesus did.) The Book of Revelation is a mixture of Old Testament texts, rabbinical sayings that eventually became the Mishnah, and popular theatrical plays of the time. These are issues that most Christians don't want to face and deal with, but which we must face up to so that we don't fall to the last deception of making of no effect the spirit of prophecy.1 point -

If no signs were posted, I *might* think they were like a free-library system. Give a book, get a book...no need to pay if the items are left out. Like Gregory said, in the U.S., we do have things called "Little Free Libraries" or "Neighborhood Libraries" where people share freely with one another. There definitely should be signs somewhere saying the books need to be paid for. And on another note, wouldn't it be nice if there were a "Campmeeting Little Free Library" where people could donate books and receive books for free?!1 point -
