    We Need To Talk

NOTE: On the surface, one might wonder why I have placed this post in a section on Adventist Issues. If you read this post through, and think about it, you may understand? Derak Black seemed preordained to play the role in society that he took. His godfather was David Duke a former grand wizard of the KKK. His father created Stormfront, an Internet headquarters for racist hate groups. While holding to the following listed three beliefs, he was elected to a Republican committee seat in Florida, at the age of 19: * Black people have lower IQs than do White people and are more likely to commit crime. * The Jews controlled the media and the banks, and unfairly defamed Hitler. * Immigration and affirmative action were leading the US toward a White genocide. Wanting to further his education, Derek Black enrolled in The New College of Florida, in Sarasota. Due to posting a message related to his beliefs on a college message board, he became the center of attention. More than 1,000 replies took him on. One reply was different. An Orthodox Jewish student simply invited Derak Black to join with him and a group of friends for a Shabbat dinner, where all could talk. Black accepted and that meal became a weekly tradition. For two (2) years Black shared in the baked salmon and challah. [NOTE: Baked salmon was the only dish the Jewish student knew how to make.] By the 2nd year, Black was beginning to question his beliefs. As he continued in his college education he took classes in medieval history and in Jewish scripture. In 2013 he visited his parents and made a decision to distance himself from their beliefs. So, at that time he wrote a letter to the Southern Poverty Law center in which he disavowed his prior beliefs and renounced his white nationalist ties. Today, Black continues on in his graduate studies in history. The preceding came am article written by Molly Simms, titled, "We Need To Talk," and published in the April 2018 issue of O, Magazine, on pages 116 & 117. I wonder: What If: An Orthodox Jew had not reached out to Black to enjoy a meal of fellowship, talk and friendship?

What makes God real to you?

so meanwhile, what are some of the ways we keep or have kept going when painful realities are glaring brighter and stronger than faith realities. what do we do when the divine eternal realities have lost their hold on our minds and we are awash in our struggle, or our losses, or our suffering, discourgaement, helplnesses, or just disappointments or pain. How is God real then? How has God or how does God keep us or has kept us then.

    Military Parade

I believe the desire to have the parade is really all about self, wanted it after watching other dictators, etc with their large military parades. Didn't the person suggesting the parade also make the statement more recently about thinking America should have ruler for life? My opinion is that the desire has little to do with honoring the uniform, but just a giant ego trip down the street!

What makes God real to you?

Wanderer, I'm not trying to "simplify" anything or make Georrage feel better. I'm just stating my experience. Like him, I have wondered why God allows so much evil and chaos. In my deepest wilderness experience (the sudden death of my oldest son), while I was cursing God for taking him, vowing to live a life of open rebellion to His false Kingdom, He came to me gently and comforting; saying very clearly (I am summarizing), "Do you really think I did this? I don't do death; I do life. The evil one does death. You can curse Me all you want - I've heard worse than yours. I will stay and mourn with you if you want Me to. I can also leave if you want Me to". I was stunned. I apologized to God for being such a jerk. He stayed with me and kept me together through this most grievous episode of my life (don't get me wrong - it was still the most traumatic experience of my life). When hard times come now, (and they do), although I still give in to the occasional pity party, I always find God's comfort there. The world hated Jesus; it will hate us as well; and do everything it can to tear us away from the reality of God's eternal Kingdom. I also confess my sin of quoting stuff in my previous post. I also confess to the sin of using a prohibited word. Be assured it was not the "s" word; it was the "c" word for the same noxious substance.

What makes God real to you?

Ever since I became a Christian, I have wondered why God brings so much [censored] into my life. Is He weak, or does He just not care? I have come to the conclusion that God actually sends us trials as a blessing. As Christians, we want to be more like our Savior. He went through the ultimate [censored]. Our trials show us our weaknesses. They give us a chance to exercise our "faith muscles". When we overcome a trial (or God takes care of it for us), we are stronger personally and spiritually for it. (1 Peter 1:6) (John15:20) Makes me think sometimes that those who are persecuted or face trials are more Christlike than those who don't.

    Thought for today 17X

    1. Where there's a will, I want to be in it. 2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you .. but it's still on my list. 3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak. 4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong. 5. We never really grow up -- we only learn how to act in public. 6. War does not determine who is right, only who is left. 7. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad. 8. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research. 9. I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you. 10. In filling out an application, where it says, "In case of emergency, notify... " I answered " a doctor." 11. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head & a beer gut,& still think they are sexy. 12. You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice. 13. I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure. 14. To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first & call whatever you hit the target. 15. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car. 16. You are never too old to learn something stupid. 17. I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder & harder for me to find one now.

    Happy St Patrick's Day

there's no proof that St. Patrick was a Sabbath-keeper.. some have presented that idea as a theory, but clearly it's not been proven...
