    Re: Migrants

I don't have any issues with people immigrating to the US. I *do* have a problem when they do it illegally. Before we start taking care of the "tired and poor" who want to be in the US illegally, I think we ought to be taking care of our *citizens* who are "tired and poor" — and veterans. And the elderly. And the orphans. And the disabled. re: the illegal immigrants who are already here... well... my decidedly cantankerous response is, "boot them out," unless they have shown themselves to be productive and positive contributors to the nation, and are willing to become naturalized citizens within a specified time period. Any crime should mean immediate deportation.

    Landscapers in Chelm

Chaim Yankel was the landscaper in Chelm and one day he and his partner Schmerel were working diligently in a park. Chaim Yankel would dig a hole and Schmerel would follow behind him and fill the hole in. They worked up one side of the park, then down the other, then moved to the next side of the park, working furiously all day without rest, Chaim Yankel digging a hole, Schmerel filling it in again. An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked Chaim Yankel, "I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting into your work, but I don't get it – why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?" Chaim Yankel wiped his brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-man team. But today Berel who plants the trees called in sick."

To go one step, more realistic, further....is/should Christianity stop just saying 'when the Lord comes' as a solution and actually think about real world solutions? Or should we just shake our heads sadly and pray for more people to people to be converted? Religious piety does not feed or solve issues.

    Re: Migrants

We are a rich nation with loads of disposable income. What are the amounts of monies spent on sports and other types of entertainment? What about the monies spent on advertising of products trying to sell more products to make more money? What about the fact we have a for profit healthcare system that you can invest in to make more money? It's not about...."IF the "rich" give away all of their wealth" , but rather how monies are managed and used. I don't believe God had in mind that the rich should get richer and the poor, more poor. What are the profits of our oil companies, billions. What did Christ have to say about the rich man who built more 'store houses' to store more profits? Most of the rhetoric is and has been on why and what we 'can't' do. Both Christianity and the secular world use the same words/reasons on why we can't do this or that. We all know there are problems. What is the solution? >Greed is not a character trait only of Europeans.< By the way, I was simply making an observation....." many nations were formed this way. "

IF we keep them OUT: Tell the mother of 3, that the price of food will double or triple at the grocery store because crops must be picked and packaged by US citizens, who expect higher wages and more benefits. Everyone will need those lower taxes and higher wages just to pay for the things they already buy. IF we allow them to ENTER: Tell the mothers and grandmothers their kids will have to share their teachers with more kids. Tell them the class sizes will get larger. More teachers will be moved to special language classes. Tell them there will be more violence at the high-schools, because kids are gang members. Teachers will want higher wages just because they have to deal with all the chaos. School budgets only stretch so far. Property taxes will go up, which affects renters too. Middle class citizens will move to other cities or states, to escape the high taxes, poor schools, and gang violence. Hospitals will have to see more indigent patients, and free clinics will be crowded. They will compensate by raising prices for everyone who can pay for services. The Stats tell us that half of all immigrants enter with children . They immediately sign up for the Food Stamp program. Those already on Food Stamps will get less, because the program has to cover more and more people. Budgets only stretch so far. IF the "rich" give away all of their wealth, they will have nothing left with which to "serve" anyone. I'm just not sure that is what Jesus had in mind. The US cannot support every person who wants to come here. Will they assimilate - becoming productive members of US culture? If they do - they won't want their kids picking crops. Barely scrapes the surface of the problems.

    Re: Migrants

Isn't it ironic....a country formed by taking the lands away from the inhabitants, then goes on to wanting to build walls to keep out other 'illegals'! it merely confirms the old adage, "to the victors goes the spoils." Of course the 'settlers' of NA were not the first to use this method of taking what belonged to others, many nations were formed this way.

I'd let them! The legal way, whatever that entails?? When I lived in California, there were many migrants, not sure if they were illegal or not, but they worked in the fields picking strawberry's, blueberry's, watermelons, etc., that Americans wouldn't do because it didn't pay enough!!!

  11. The central issue that arises over and over again in Revelation 13 and 14 is worship. Seven times in these two chapters there is a reference to worship of the dragon, the beast or the image to the beast. Five of those references are in chapter thirteen. Failure to properly pay the meter for your parking spot, is not a crime for which I think one should be deported. By the way, todays edition of the Sacramento Bee is reporting the City of Sacramento issued thousands of tickets for a failure to pay the parking fee, to a "smart meter" that went "bonkers" and falsely reported that the person had failed to pay.

    Mark of the Beast

Thank you for sharing and prayers for you. The impending conflict is a powerful book. I wish that the church would make a printing that would have the four chapters "The Origin of Evil" "Why was Sin Permitted" (these two chapters are very similar but one was from earlier writings and has a raw freshness not in the other, while the other has a sophistication not found in the first so the strong and weak points of these chapters really complement each other). "Gethsemane" and Mrs. White's masterpiece, the greatest chapter she ever wrote "It is Finished". These four chapters with maybe a couple of quotes such as "There is in man a disposition to esteem himself more highly than his breathern to serve self to seek the highest place and often this results in evil surmisings and bitterness of spirit" from the Communion chapter of the Desire of Ages, as well as Desire of Ages page 641 "When we love he world as he [Jesus] has loved it, then for us his mission is accomplished; we are fitted for heaven for we have heaven in our hearts." and "The Glory of Him that is love will consume the wicked." Maybe also add to it the article "God Made Manifest in Christ." These are Mrs. White's most important writings, her core message. Anyway, I'm glad that they at least have the Impending Conflict. Your story reminds me of what happened to me once when I was in college. I had some time off, visited my mom in New York City, a friend who was living and working in New Jersey and then was going to take the bus home. While waiting for the bus I was reading "The Impending Conflict." A bus pulled up and a well dressed older lady got off the bus, walked into the station, looked around and made a bee line towards me and asked "Why is there evil I the world?" I was shocked and replied "Excuse me, could you repeat that please" and she repeated "Why is there evil in the world?" she then went on to tell me that she had come up for her cousin's husband's funeral. He had been the mayor of that city before he suddenly died. In taking the bus up for the funeral she saw the homeless at the bus station. She could not understand how people could live like that. Her cousin's husband as mayor was trying to make life better for homeless people, and she was shocked that here was someone wiling to help the homeless and his work suddenly came to an end with his unexpected death. I talked about the issues of the great Controversy and showed her the chapter in the Impending Conflict. She asked if she could read it and while waiting for her relatives to meet her at the station she was able to read the whole chapter. When her family came she asked if she could keep the book saying "This actually makes sense!" She was Jewish and understood that Mrs. White was writing from a Christian perspective, but said that even so the information Mrs. White gave made things she learned in synagogue and in the Bible come alive as never before and that it has filled her heart with joy and hope. She gave me a hug and thanked me and said that she will meet me again in heaven.

Small world! I drop in on the church there from time to time. They tell me there used to be separate churches in Big Stone Gap and Pennington Gap, but they are now combined about halfway between the two towns. My avatar cat came from a rescue org in Big Stone Gap. I refer to him as my "junkyard cat." When I first got him, he would just as soon scratch and bite me as look at me. But now he stalks me waiting for a chance to go to sleep in my lap.

    CA Assembly Bill 2943

Again, another article/opinion trying its best to stir up righteous indignation when none is needed. The phrase....."with a patient under 18 years of age" ......as a way of stirring up the gullible. Is it any wonder .org religion continues to get a bad rap? Honesty is lacking!! The bloggers concerns are not really about the Bible being banned, in my opinion, but rather rather just another end run about gay issues. Context, context...that dreaded word by all who rely on text/quote splatter. AB 2943, as amended, Low. Unlawful business practices: sexual orientation change efforts. Existing law, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, makes unlawful certain unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices undertaken by any person in a transaction intended to result result,or which results results, in the sale or lease of goods or services to any consumer. Existing law authorizes any consumer who suffers damages as a result of these unlawful practices to bring an action against that person to recover damages, among other things. Existing law prohibits mental health providers, as defined, from performing sexual orientation change efforts, as specified, with a patient under 18 years of age. Existing law requires a violation of this provision to be considered unprofessional conduct and subjects the provider to discipline by the provider’s licensing entity. This bill would include, as an unlawful practice prohibited under the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, advertising, offering to engage in, or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual. The bill would also declare the intent of the Legislature in this regard. https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180AB2943 The unamended bill is about fraudulent advertising practices. Much data is supplied in the bill amendment for the context of the addition to it. Of course the sky could fall down tomorrow, the wolf is coming, the wolf is coming..... (Pk, you new that would stir my blood....)

What Does the “Fear” of God Mean? (Fourteen 3)

The word “fear” in English is generally the word we use when we are terrified. As a result, many readers of the Bible think it is appropriate to serve God because we are afraid of Him. But when the word fear is associated with God in the Bible, it has a much softer meaning. In […] The post What Does the “Fear” of God Mean? (Fourteen 3) appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog.
