    Redemption by David

Thanks, yes, I think people are different, so a simple formula like '2 years no, 5 years yes' or whatever wouldn't work. It would need to be about sustained evidence of change. Humans love redemption stories: how many novels and movies involve someone making a mistake or doing something wrong and redeeming themselves? This might be a slightly different situation than what Gail has in mind, but I think one of the issues around redemption and forgiveness is that Christ redeems and forgives instantly. We call on His blood, and (from a salvation perspective) the sin is as though it never happened. From a human perspective, though, we need to make amends to those we harmed, and demonstrate over time that we have changed and become new people. 'Works' don't contribute to salvation, but they are very important in seeking redemption from others.

    Oy, Shirley’s Back is Killing!

Shirley Sharfman was in excruciating pain. “Oy my back is killing me!” “What’s the matter Shirley?” asked Marla, one of her co-workers. “I was moving furniture last night and my back is killing me!” "Why didn't you wait until your husband got home?" Marla asked. "Ira?” Shirley laughed. “I guess I could have but the couch is easier to move if he's not on it."

    A Spiritual Checkup

Marvin Himmleman is at his doctor for a physical. Dr. Epstein runs some tests and says to Marvin, ''Well, Mr. Himmleman, for an 82 year old man you are in top condition physically. But how about mentally and spiritually?” “What do you mean, doc?” asks Marvin. “Well how is your connection with God, for example?'' Marvin says, ''Oh me and God? We're tight. We have a real bond, he's good to me. Every night when I have to get up to go to the bathroom, he turns on the light for me, and then, when I leave, he turns it back off.'' Well, upon hearing this, Dr. Epstein was concerned. He called Mrs. Himmleman and said, ''I'd like to speak to you about your husband. He claims that every night when he needs to use the restroom, God turns on the light for him and turns it off for him again when he leaves.” Mrs. Himmleman replies, “Oy that schnook. He’s been using the refrigerator again!''

Should The Government Revise Marijuana Laws?

Don't eat too many brownies, if any, and definitely stay away from anything synthetic. If you just smoke the weed, you can only get so high and that's it. No matter how much you smoke. And nobody has ever died from smoking it, just like the man said. I think the most detrimental thing about it is all the junk food someone might eat, after getting the munchies. There's talk here in NC about it...legalization I knew an SDA preacher who smoked weed, and I think he still does. He married the same woman twice. lol And divorced her twice also..

Went to a New Church Today

Absolutely. I also don't want to leave my current church without music on "my" Sabbath. I also want to make sure I "fit" into the new church. I'm not the world's most compliant SDA. In case you haven't noticed, I'm kinda "quirky" and marginal in my denominational beliefs. Some congregations are okay with that and some aren't. One of the reasons I stayed with my current church so long is that I was in like company. Almost all of us in that church are a little bit "out there"; and open-minded to new thoughts. First impression - so is this new church. The new church is also much larger and more active in ministry. First impressions are not always the right ones.

Went to a New Church Today

Actually, I think I do. Being an active member (e.g., preaching, teaching, leading worship, bringing breakfast) in such a small church; and good friends with most of the members, it would be a blow (and probably offensive) to just disappear without an explanation or some kind of notice. The acting pastor is one of my best friends. We are too small with just a volunteer (unpaid) pastor to put together any ministries other than simply financial support to a couple small ministries and people among our families who are having a hard time. I need to be involved in some sort of local ministry; but I'm too old and lazy to start something on my own (unless God directs me to do so). A larger, better organized church would provide more opportunities.

    Not Me!

That's just the way Italian men say "hello"! Be thankful that we're not dogs. I must say that I'm jealous Gregory. Women have always appreciated me for my mind. That's so shallow! I have a body too!

  9. It seems to me that there are three main options for the faith-based scientist in the science classroom. 1) Teach science the way the average believer in the pew (and some church administrators) want you to teach it, disparaging evolutionary science and scientists, and highlighting only the evidences for creation. 2) Teach science the way […] The post Teaching Evolution at a Faith-Based University (Faith and Science 7) appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog.
