Some of us, to include me, may say that the SDA denomination has elements of the Catholic church in is theology and practice. This may not bad. Interesting article for sure!! It seemed to show, at least to me, that EGW acted a lot like a Prophet than many let on!! She got right into the face of the denomination leaders, as the Prophets of old got right in the face of the king and his court!!

Various comments, some of which may not be related to other comments: * In the Roman Catholic Church there are only three (3) levels of clergy--Deacons, Priests & Bishops. * In the SDA Church there is one level of clergy, who are all formally given the title of Elder. * Deacons are not considered clergy in the SDA denomination. * Elder is also a title given to a local leader in a congregation who is NOT considered to be clergy. * SDA clergy elected to certain other administrative offices would be considered Bishops in the Roman Catholic Church. * On rare occasions, when meeting the public, SDA clergy have assumed the title of Bishop. Am example of this would be Bishop A. A. Leiske of the American Religious Townhall. (1952) * General Conference Vice-Presidents would be called Cardinals in the Roman Catholic Church. * In my opinion, contrary to the direction of the current discussion in the SDA Church, the Biblical issue is the role that women should have in spiritual nurture, not whether or not they should be ordained. * In my opinion, the Bible presents Phoebe as having a position of spiritual leadership in that congregation. * Deacons are ordained, but not clergy in the SDA Church. * Deaconess are sometimes ordained, but not clergy in the SDA Church. * Females are sometimes elected as Deacons, but not clergy, in the SDA Church and are then ordained. * Presently females are serving as congregational clergy and as higher elected administrative officials. * Women serving as SDA Clergy are generally Commissioned, but not Ordained. * Some such women are presently being Ordained. * One such ordained woman is presently serving as a Local Conference President. * One Commissioned woman has served as a General Conference Vice-President (Roman Catholic Cardinal), * Female SDA clergy are presently serving as military chaplains and as chaplains in other situations.

The only person who will be upset if the unity committee doesn't pass the proposed rules will be TW himself. He has a skewed opinion of his place in this denominational structure; he thinks (as did his father before him) that as president of the General Conference he is boss of the church. He can dictate when and how we should worship, for instance. As for myself, I'll just sit back and wait till TW's term of service is ended, and then the denominational activities can return to normal. Remember: The pastorate in our church is TO SERVE, not to boss the members. The strength of our church is at the grass roots -- in the membership. There is absolutely no Scriptural basis for disallowing women in the ministry. Jeannieb

Full of compassion

Why did I think about this today? Well, I did and the following is actually true. Some years ago I was assigned to a unit stationed on the DMZ in South Korea. The officers of that unit lived in a building that shared a common kitchen where they could keep snack foods. Someone began drinking the orange juice that belonged to the unit medic. Finally he had enough of that so, he added some phenolphthalein to his orange juice and waited. NOTE: Phenolphthalein can be used in medicine and is not a poison. While colorless in an acidic solution, it can change to a pink/red color in a basic solution. A short time later, the company commander came to him in desperate need. He was about to take a mid-tour leave to visit his wife. He had begun to urinate a pink to red urine. Gravely the medic informed the commander that he was gravely ill and would need to undergo extensive treatment before he could take his leave. Finally, after some extended discussion, the medic informed the commander that there was an alternative treatment that just might work. If the commander would stop stealing the medics orange juice, his urine just might clear up. NOTE: Human urine, over a day ranges in Ph from 6.5 to 8.

Interesting. But if schism comes, it will be a shock to the 99.9% of Adventists who don't follow church politics and who neither understand nor care what the whole dispute is about. Were I to poll my local congregation and ask them what is the biggest challenge facing the church today, I doubt one in a hundred would name women's ordination.

HCH, your reference to EGW presents her as stating that Satan will appear in human form, It does not state that Satan will impersonate any specific person. Yes, it does state that Satan will impersonate Jesus Christ, I do not argue that point. You cannot reasonably state that Satan will impersonate any Pope.

There are those who think that the word of a woman is more valuable than a man's, even many men. "Believe the woman" they bleat out like a bunch of sheep. But consider the virtual storm of false accusations, recantations regarding rapes going on throughout this country. Hence, I stand by my previous comment regarding boys needing to be protected in this day. It is significant, and was discussed some, that Ford's memories were retreived after sessions with a psychologist. That is significant when you consider the history of false memory syndrome in this country. False memory problems have driven the policy making of even the SDA church. Lies have had a part in making up SDA policy! What went on around the Kavanaugh hearings was a travesty in American political history. If he were impersonating the Pope, she would've said the "Pope" and not human being!! Besides why would he need to impersonate the Pope? Isn't he already doing what satan needs?? I'm not convinced about the Pope!!
