    A Fire Story

On another issue: The helpers are getting burned out. I was contacted today and asked if I would be available next week to provide emotional support to helpers, not victims, but helpers who are getting burned out. I will probably do some.

    Trivia

5 Things You Didn't Know About Watergate_2 On November 17, 1973, Richard Nixon insisted that he was not a crook in front of a group of newspaper editors in a statement given at Walt Disney World. Here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about the scandal that rocked America and brought down a president.... Adhesive Tape Found on a Door Led to the Discovery of the Burglary A night watchman at Watergate, Frank Willis, discovered a piece of tape holding the latch open in the parking garage and removed it, and later he discovered that the tape had been replaced. Willis called the police, who came in plain clothes and in an unmarked car to investigate. Inside the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee, they discovered five men who had ransacked the office and were in possession of devices such as locksmith tools, rolls of film, bugging devices and large amounts of cash. Most of the Burglars Were Former Government Employees James McCord was a former employee of the FBI and CIA, as well as the coordinator of security for the RNC and member of the committee to re-elect President Nixon, while Frank Sturgis and Eugenio Martinez also had connections with the CIA. Bernard Barker was a former CIA employee as well as E. Howard Hunt, Jr., who had worked as a consultant to the White House. G. Gordon Liddy had worked for the FBI and at the White House and Treasury Department as well as the committee to re-elect Nixon. A Tape Recording That Was Missing 18.5 Minutes Helped Lead to Nixon’s Downfall President Nixon had been recording all the conversations that were held in the Oval Office, and the recording device came on automatically whenever anyone started speaking. When the special prosecutor with the Watergate burglary investigation requested specific tapes, including one where Nixon was talking with H.R. Haldeman, his chief of staff, shortly after the burglary, the present refused to turn them over. The tapes were finally released; however, the conversation between the president and Haldeman had been erased. The House Judiciary Committee Approved Three Separate Articles of Impeachment A bipartisan vote of 27-11 approved the first impeachment article, which was a charge of obstruction of justice. The second article approved by the committee was by a bipartisan vote of 28-10, and the charge was conducting illegal surveillance and using agencies of the federal government against another political group. The third, which passed with a vote of 21 to 17, charged that Nixon had refused to cooperate with the investigative committee with regard to congressional subpoenas. The Resignation of Richard Nixon Nixon resigned from the office of the presidency on August 9, 1974, after televising the news nationwide the night before and as a way to avoid the initiation of impeachment proceedings. He and his family left for San Clemente, California, in a helicopter from the lawn of the White House. Gerald Ford, the former Minority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, was sworn in as president a few minutes later in the White House’s East Room.

    A Fire Story

The following is not about a SDA institution, as I understand it. I am posting it here as I believe it tells a story of what many people, which include SDAs went through in the fire. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/california-fire-if-you-stay-youre-dead-how-a-paradise-nursing-home-evacuated/ar-BBPNQvl?ocid=spartandhp

    Abuse: SDA/Catholic

What a coincidence! Our sermon at church today was exactly along these lines. It was like "female appreciation day"; with the sermon given by the associate pastor ( a female). To me, it was a thinly veiled attempt to support female pastors (there are several in our Conference), and encourage people to call out sexism and abuse from inside the church rather than outside the church. I feel strongly both ways on this sermon and article. On one hand, the issue needs to be addressed, because it is a stumbling block in our church. I for one support WO; but it's not a soap-box issue for me. On the other hand, IMHO the issue of WO is a distraction to the mission of the church - which is to spread the Good News about Jesus. For me, the most influential poster on this forum is a woman. This woman doesn't fret about wanting to be a leader and teacher, she just IS one because that is what the Lord called her to do. Up until now, the female pastors I know in the SDA church didn't fret about not being ordained (until recently - now that their jobs are in jeopardy) , they saw a spiritual need in a church, received a calling from the Lord, and they filled it. The only thing that formally identifies me as an SDA is that I am "on the books". When others ask me what denomination I am, I initially just say Christian; and leave it at that. Maybe later I would tell them I attend an SDA church. That being said, I would continue going to an SDA church whether or not I was "on the books". I am blessed by public worship and Christian fellowship. I have tried other denominations' churches, but grass-roots "normal" (whatever that is) SDAs meet my doctrinal and social needs best. I wouldn't have hung around here as long as I have if that wasn't so. I'm grateful the Lord led me to this forum through a gracious female Moderator. This is a place where I can discuss freely some of my thoughts with other people who like free discussions.

A couple questions on God's plan of salvation

Yes. I WAS SDA. It took years and years and years before I could begin to read the Bible without hearing in my head, what Ellen said about every passage I was reading. I came to realize that I had never really read my Bible - never read it just for itself. Though I no longer believe that Ellen White was an inspired prophet interpreter of every passage of Scripture, I do not reject everything she ever wrote. Why would I ? She wrote a lot of good things about Christ.

  8. Today, in the United States, probably the majority of the homes in which pastors live are not owned by the Conference. Pastors like everyone else like to chose their own home in which to live, as such best meets their needs. Few Conferences now want to be responsible for the required upkeep of the property.

    Major Fire Damage

It is true that there are more than 1,000 people listed as missing. It is not true that there are more than 1,000 missing people. * The civil authorities had several agencies who were taking the names of missing people. * Those several lists have now been combined into one list that does have more than 1,000 listed persons. * There are duplications. In some cases, several relatives have called in the names of the same person. In some cases, the same person has been called in under variations of their name. * The civil authorities have not been able to eliminate the duplications. * In brief, no one knows exactly how many people are missing. NOTE: I am living close enough to the fire that I am getting local reports that are not fully reported by the national news media. Every day, I am getting a 30 minute, detained report, that is not nationally reported by the news media, in full.
