What is the Meaning of 1/3 in Rev.8?
Lone Ranger reacted to JoeMo for a topic
Sorry; I cannot. While I agree that trees and seas stand for people in some places, Rev. 9:15 states referring to the impact of the 5th trumpet: "And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind." So in this case, I think "mankind" means people; and "trees, grass, and seas probably means trees, grass, and seas. If trees, grass and seas means people, it would seem like all people would be dead by the end of the sixth trumpet. I'm not saying you are mistaken; I'm just pointing out my thought process.1 point -
Dr.Desmond Ford Dies!

At 1:15, on the morning of March 11, 2019, local date and time, Dr. Desmond Ford died. https://atoday.org/dr-desmond-ford-a-life-sketch/ While I do not agree with every doctrinal position that Dr. Ford took, truely, he was a great Christian and his death is a loss to the Christian community in which Adventism exists. For an interesting account as to how his first wife, upon her death, recommended who his next wife should be, read the account of his life at the above URL.1 point -

I just read this sad news on facebook. I have been concerned with this theology, seeing his views and the so called "Historic Adventists" views as for the most part having divided the truth between them and used one side against the other. But I have respected him as a person and death is always sad. Desmond Ford, 2 February 1929–11 March 2019 My beloved Des died this morning at St Mary's Aged Care home shortly before 1:15 a.m. I was with him, and he died peacefully after a few very difficult months. The staff at the home all told me they had never met anyone so polite, so thankful, so courteous. He had great gifts and abilities but when they were stripped away, the purity and goodness of his soul shone out. He was a man always in a hurry, driven by a mission to serve God and proclaim Christ. He would urge you to take up the work he has laid down. As many of you know, he would say, Meet you here, there or in the air. He has gone ahead of us. And the world is a far colder place. 1 Corinthians 15 New International Version (NIV) THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST 15 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. … … … THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD 12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. 20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For he “has put everything under his feet.” … … … 42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”[f]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we[g] bear the image of the heavenly man. 50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”[h] 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.1 point -

5 Shocking Facts You Didn't Know About Osama bin Laden On March 10, 1957, Osama bin Laden was born in Saudi Arabia. Osama bin Laden formed the al-Qaeda network which carried out global strikes against Western interests, culminating in the September 11 terror attacks. Here are shocking 5 facts you didn't know about Osama bin Laden... He Loved Whitney Houston Bin Laden was quoted as saying “Music is the flute of the devil;” however, a woman who was a captive of bin Laden said he adored singer Whitney Houston and spoke about her often. In fact, he would have been willing to add her to his collection of wives. That same woman claims bin Laden “had a paramount desire for Whitney Houston and although he claimed music was evil, he spoke of someday spending vast amounts of money to go to America and try to arrange a meeting with the superstar.“ He was less enthusiastic about her husband Bobby Brown and fantasized about killing him. He Carried a Stash for a Quick Getaway U.S. authorities discovered 500 Euros and two telephone numbers sewn into the pockets of bin Laden’s robes. This would allow him to abandon his Abottabad hideout and disappear into the Pakistani countryside at a moment’s notice. By constantly being prepared to flee, bin Laden had successfully evaded capture by U.S. forces for ten years. Luckily, Al Qaeda’s intelligence failed to foresee the oncoming operation that claimed his life. He Studied Business Administration and Economics He attended King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he studied economics and business administration. However, bin Laden did not complete his studies and dropped out instead to run several areas of the construction business his father owned. Even after bin Laden became involved in terrorism, he continued to oversee massive construction projects. Bin Laden Loved Sports, Especially British Football Bin Laden was about 6’4”, and, according to at least one person, was talented at playing volleyball. He was a big fan of Arsenal, the British football team, and attended many of their matches when he was living in London during the early part of the 90s. Following the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City, an Arsenal spokesperson said bin Laden wouldn’t be welcome anymore to attend their games held at Highbury. He Had Downloaded a Lot of Porn on His Computer During the raid on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, millions of documents and electronic files were seized by U.S. commandos. Among the papers and information on operations by al Qaeda, investigators discovered a vast collection of pornographic videos.1 point -

I share here in blog form my original manuscript of this week’s (March 10-16) Sabbath School Adult Teacher’s Edition for people to compare with the edited version. The changes were not massive or disruptive in most cases. I share my analysis of the changes in the next blog. What is the Meaning of 1/3 in Rev.8?
Lone Ranger reacted to JoeMo for a topic
Agreed. I don't think we need to find esoteric spiritual applications for everything in scripture. Sometimes it may mean what it literally says - in this case, a significant portion but less than half of the things mentioned are destroyed or killed. Trees means trees, for example.1 point
