    Under Law

What law does the Sabbath fall under? Is it prophetic law? Does it fall neatly under "the schoolmaster"? Or is it part of the moral law of God? SDAs put it squarely under the moral law. Evangelicals and Catholics put it under "the schoolmaster". I put it under both - prophetic and moral. I put it under "the everlasting covenant". That's the one that Adam broke in the first place. Isaiah 24:5 "The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant."

    Under Law

When an Evangelical says "We are not under the law", what they mean is "every law or command in the OT is no longer binding". What they mean is, "the Sabbath of the 7th Day is no longer relevant or binding". When an Evangelical says, "We are not under the law", I will immediately ask, "not under what law"? Paul says we are to fulfill "the law of Christ" (Gal 6:2). Paul said that he served the law of God (with his mind) and delighted in the law of God. Paul says, "the carnal mind . . . is not subject to the law of God" (Rom 8:7). Guess I could ask them if they have "the carnal mind", since they regard themselves as "not subject to the law of God". lol

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

I've never been one to say that a view I hold to is absolutely correct. I've always been a "weight of the evidence" believer/teacher. I also believe that very few beliefs are salvational - saved vs lost. It might be interesting to discuss what things are saved vs lost issues.

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

I study for myself. I am not a member of any church. I may hold a single point in common with another person or even denomination, but that does not put me "into" that group or denomination. I agree with the SDAs on some things, the JW on a couple points, even the Baptists on some things. And don't start using the "cult" label. That is just a ball of mud that religious people throw at people they disagree with to label them, so other folks feel free to reject them. Any time someone starts using the "cult" word, I immediately know they cannot defend their viewpoint from Scripture, so they have to use "mud".

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

John 14:18 does not have to be understood as meaning that the HS coming to them was actually Christ, as Rachel seems to think. Rather, it may be understood as telling them that while the HS would be with humanity in the long term future, this did not mean that Jesus Christ had abandoned them and would never return. It could be understood as saying that at a later time, Jesus Christ would return.. Some might say a literal return at the 2nd Advent. Some might say a spiritual return at Pentecost. While some might object to this, I will suggest that at the very least, the 2nd Advent can be considered correct. So, in actual fact, this passage may be understood as supporting the doctrine of the Trinity, as commonly understood.

    Trivia

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Voyager 2_2 On August 20th, 1977, the United States launched Voyager 2, an unmanned spacecraft carrying a phonograph record containing greetings in dozens of languages, samples of music and sounds of nature. See how much you know about this historic event with these 5 facts about NASA's Voyager mission... Voyager 2 Accomplished a Number of Firsts for Mankind Voyager 2 made it close to Uranus early 1986 and sent back thousands of images of the atmosphere, moons and rings to the Deep Space Network. In addition to photographing the largest moons orbiting around the planet, it also detected ten moons that had never been seen before, as well as two additional rings that hadn’t been discovered. A few of the things it discovered are that the temperature on Uranus is around -350 degrees Fahrenheit and that its rate of rotation is much shorter that of Earth’s at 17 hours, 14 minutes. Voyager 2's Computer Systems Knocked Out During Launch While there was no problem with the liftoff, Voyager 2’s computer went crazy because of the shaking, twisting motion of the rocket. It reacted by switching into backup mode, and it turned things off and would not communicate with its handlers on Earth. The coder who programmed the computer system managed to reestablish contact and patch the software before the launch of Voyager 1. It Carries a Time Capsule on a Golden Disc A 12-inch copper disk with gold plating is carried by both Voyager 1 and 2; the disk portrays a selection of Earth’s culture and life. Chairman Carl Sagan chaired a committee that chose music, greetings in 55 languages, 115 images and natural sounds to convey to any being in the universe what life is like here. The photos are a wide-ranging selection from illustrations of physical human anatomy, from World Book to the Taj Mahal and dolphins. The Mission of Voyager 2 Was Supposed to Last Five Years The original mission of the space probe was to study Saturn and Jupiter; however, NASA engineering and craftsmanship was so amazing that it was possible to continue Voyager 2’s exploration. NASA scientists reprogrammed the space probe remotely to send it on a course that would take it further in the solar system to study Neptune and Uranus. Instead of lasting five years, the program was extended to 12, and the probe has now been in operation for more than four decades. It Took 41 Years for Voyager II to Leave the Solar System The solar system is much larger than most people can imagine, and so far, the distance that Voyager 2 has traveled is around 11 billion miles. It is traveling at a speed of about 34,000 mph. It has been estimated that Voyager 2 will not approach other stars in the vastness we call outer space for another 40,000 years.

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

Jesus spoke of Himself in third person - as "Him" and "He" more than once. John 14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- 17 "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." (NKJ) Why is it, people always leave off the last sentence? Why? Because the last sentence points to Christ as the One, who would come to be with them, and in them. The world "neither sees" . . "nor knows" this helper, but the disciples did see Him and did know Him, because He dwelt with them. Question: Who had dwelt with them for 3 years? Answer: Jesus. Who had the world not recognized (as Messiah) or known (as Son of God) ? Answer: Jesus. Who would be "in them"? Answer: Jesus. Colossians 1:27 "To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." Who else would be "in them"? Answer: God the Father. John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him." Hence our fellowship with with Father and Son. NOT - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. "and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ." (1Jo 1:3 KJV) Hence we "abide in the Son and in the Father" (1John 2:24). NOT - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

    Questions and Answers (15:10)

Lou: I have heard a fairly well-known minister talk about how God speaks to him. Now what about that? How do you judge that kind of thing? When you speak about prayer as conversation with a friend, is that ever a two-way conversation? What about God speaking back to us? Can we talk more about […] The post Questions and Answers (15:10) appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog. View the full article

    The downside of transgender practices

There is much that is not known related to the issue of transgender. Regardless, I will say that being transgender is not a happy situation for anyone who is transgender. In my personal opinion, I do not even believe that we have a good understanding as to what a transgender person is. I am reminded of the debate that exists in the U.S. today related to homosexuality. Some define homosexuality on the basis of conduct, while others define it on the basis of gender preference. There is a world of difference between these two. Under the definition related to conduct, one may change from homosexual to heterosexual. Under the definition of gender preference, one may change their conduct, but their gender preference is unlikely to be changed. I will suggest that a similar situation may exist related to a transgender person. I will suggest that there are problematic issues related to school children claiming to be transgender, which is often simply a fad. One of the issues is probably that of genetics. In the area of homosexuality, we have limited information available as to a genetic influence. We are still in the learning stage on this issue. I will suggest that in the area of transgender, we understand even less as to the genetic influence. We have probably been taught that there are genetically two types of humans. [NOTE: We do know that this is NOT true for some other types of animal life.] We believe that persons born with a XX genetic configuration are female and persons born with a XY configuration are male. As it pertains to humans, all are either XX or XY. In actual fact this is not true. We now know some people have some organs that are genetically XX and other organs that are genetically XY. [NOTE: I am not referring to the external genitals.] To illustrate with an example: In some people it would be possible for a persons skin to be of one type, while that person's liver to be of another type. I do not think, that we know how this may effect a person being transgender. In short, I believe that our knowledge as to what it means to be a transgender and therefore we should be cautious as to what we say about such people.
