Only if cooked to very high temp, which renders it not as tasty. I can't remember which issue of "Nutrition Action" magazine had a good article with lots of tables, etc. about this. They dissed most meats. Sited studies on grilled meats being linked to cancers. Was thinking about the ancient sacrifices, and the priests. Those priests would have eaten meat frequently - mostly lamb and goat meat, because they got a portion of most sacrifices. Chickens were not allowed in Jerusalem. They were afraid they would scratch up something "unclean". Chickens are not described as ever sacrificed.

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

Who defines "the pale of Christianity"? The majority of those claiming the title? Such words imply a central authority which defines "the pale of Christianity" and identifies certain doctrines as "central" and others as heresy. For you that central authority seems to be the Catholic Church as it has existed back to the Council of Nicaea (or somewhat before). But how can we know for certain that the central authority, was not corrupted - that it did not depart significantly from "the truth". How can we know the interpretation of Scripture passages, put forth by the central authority, is correct. I have the same question for Adventists who look to Ellen White for interpretation of Scripture passages. She made mistakes. Her view of some things changed over time. There are two main branches of Islam. One branch looks to the earlier writings of The Prophet. The other looks to the later writings (which were more violent). They have fought for centuries. I look to the Bible. I do study many versions. I search to see how many ancient manuscripts, and which manuscripts were used as original sources. I do the word studies. I consider the textual context, and the cultural context. All in a search for meaning. And of course, I pray constantly. "Spiritual things are spiritually discerned." I believe that one cannot discern "the truth" without the help and guidance of Jesus and the angels who serve Him.

Devotion to Mary is considered to be a "cult" - so too would devotion to the Sabbath.

Paul says "the first man" was Adam. 1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; (1Co 15:45 KJV) Genesis 3:20 "And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living." You would have to add to the end of this verse. "She was the mother of all living" special separately created humans. I get uncomfortable when one has to add too much to what is written. Romans 5:12 So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned– (NET) There was no "sin" or death, before Adam sinned. If Adam and Eve were a special separate creation of humans, what were all the other humans doing. Living sinlessly? What about the death of animals? Death entered the world through the sin of the "one man". So before that sin, nothing could have died. That rules out 60 thousand years of animals and fish and birds dying before that "sin". The fossils show brain tumors and other diseases, and carnivorous eating of animals/fish by others. These are the rock layers that non-creationist paleontologists date to 60,000 plus, plus, plus years ago - before the appearance of humans. I personally believe that Satan claimed dominion over the entire earth because of Adam's sin. Adam was originally given dominion over the earth. If Adam put himself under Satan, by knowingly rebelling against the LORD's will, then Adam's dominion would also have come "under" Satan. Satan could then have wrecked havoc in the animal kingdom. Psalm 115:16 “The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to mankind.” (NIV) Genesis 1:26-28 “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” “dominion” - meaning sovereignty or lordship Psalm 8:3-8 “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit [care for] him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet . . .” Satan was allowed to dominate Adam and Eve, and the entire earth, because of their open rebellion against God's expressed will. God could forgive and protect only those individuals who turned back to Him, and sought to do His revealed will. Like Noah. Personally, I think that Noah's sons - the ones who got on the Boat, were protected only because they were with Noah. I think it is quite possible that Satan caused the Flood, trying to wipe out this creation and all human kind. God always takes responsibility for what He allows Satan to do.

There is no question that sooner or later HCH will get something correct. It may just be his former prediction that President Trump would die, if not days, perhaps weeks, or months or years later. Probability tells us that HCH will at some point in time get something right. But, getting something correct does not prove that the Bible predicted it.

Did God Die on the Cross? Part 1

That's pretty harsh, Gustave - out of character for you. There are some peculiar doctrines among Catholics that in no way can be supported by scripture that could cause some to characterize Roman Catholicism as a cult as well. I won't get into details because I don't want to start an online feud. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

The idea that the dietary laws were intended to keep Israel separate from the other nations is worthy of consideration. However, acceptance of that idea does not exclude other considerations. Pagan worship issues could be a consideration. [NOTE: I am not saying that such is. I am simply suggesting that it could be an issue.] In addition, health could be an issue sometimes. It may not be the only issue and it may not apply to every aspect of the issues. So, I agree that Gustave has a point on some of what he has stated. However, I will suggest that he has overstated his point, beyond what is reasonable. Often when we think that we have a point to be made, we overstate it.

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Uncle Sam_3 On this day in 1813, the United States got its nickname, Uncle Sam. Here are 5 things you didn’t know about this popular symbol of our country... The Image We Know as Uncle Sam Is Not the Original One Uncle Sam didn't have a physical image for decades; the term was really just a nickname. However, in the 1860s, a political cartoonist named Thomas Nast began drawing a figure he called Uncle Sam; this figure didn't have a beard at first but later was given one before the turn of the century. The initial images of Uncle Sam were of a white male, usually middle-aged but often of undetermined age. His status as an older paternal figure was cemented around World War I, when artist James Montgomery Flagg drew the figure that most people associate with the name today. The Concept of Uncle Sam Started as Soldier Slang The accepted story of Uncle Sam is that the name was soldier slang. When soldiers in the War of 1812 -- though this technically happened in 1813 -- would receive food supplies, they would get these barrels of beef from the United States marked "U.S." The beef came from a supplier named Samuel Wilson, the soldiers turned "U.S." into "Uncle Sam," and the nickname stuck. Eventually, it worked its way into general usage. You Can Celebrate Uncle Sam's Existence in Troy, New York Samuel Wilson was from Troy, New York, and the town has several sites and monuments to the man behind what was one of the country's earlier memes. In addition to a statue and marking the location of his grave, Troy also has marked a false grave, the vacant lot where his house used to be, a mural on the side of a brewery building, and other unusual sites. The U.S. May Have a Male Face, but "America" Has Long Been Represented by Women The personification of the United States may be male now, but for decades, it was female, especially when referring to "America." Initially, in the 1500s, the land that Europeans were taking over was represented by Amerique, a vaguely Native American woman whose treatment was not always civil, even in art. She started off as a queen; the known continents in the 1500s all had a female figure representing them in art. Amerique would often wear the same flowing robes as the other representations but have a headdress and carry something like a spear. However, political cartoonists soon went to work, and by the mid 18th century, Amerique was often used as a symbol for the American colonies. She could have imagery representing the thirteen colonies or find herself held down by cartoonish British figures and forced to swallow medicine. During the American Revolution, Amerique's dress became more feather-based and skimpier in contrast to Europe's classical dress. Also during the American Revolution, another female image of America became popular -- that of Columbia, who gained popularity in the 19th century along with Uncle Sam. Both were often featured in cartoons together, with Columbia representing a more moral edge to the country. In WWI, Columbia was often used to depict women's war efforts, especially on the medical front. It Wasn't Until 1961 That Samuel Wilson Was Officially Recognized as the Source of Uncle Sam The story of Sam the meat supplier is accepted as the true origin of Uncle Sam, but it wasn't until 1961, when Congress recognized Wilson as the basis for the name. The term "Uncle Sam" is rumored to have been in the original lyrics for "Yankee Doodle" around the 1770s. There was indeed a meatpacker named Samuel Wilson whose containers of beef supplies did reach soldiers in 1813, so while that story may have some issues of its own, it became the most acceptable version.

Oh boy! Just when you thought it couldn't get worse!

September 6, 2019, 3:15 AM, in California. As I write this it is 8:15 PM in Australia. I am going to assume that With the weekend, here, I am not going to receive anything more, at least until Monday. So, I am going to review what I have done in regard to the charges against Susan M., a SDA clergy person in Australia. When I first read the charge against Susan M, posted in this thread by Photodude, and I followed up by reading the source that he cited I was troubled, both by the actual charges and by some unanswered questions that I had about the factual basis of the charges. So, I decided that I would attempt to determine certain facts and in addition to contact the Conference that employed Susan. I quickly determined that Susan was listed as a Pastor in the Avondale congregation. One of the Conference officials did respond to my request for information. I found his response to be of value. However, he was speaking as an individual. He informed me that any publication of a response would need to be approved by an administrative process within the Conference, which has not been done. He has also suggested that I contact Susan directly, as he believed that she would welcome my questions. As I reviewed what he had said to me, and considered putting it into my words, I decided that such would not be helpful and I would not do that. I decided that some statements on this issue should only be made by an identified source. I have attempted to contact, by e-mail, Susan. However, my only e-mail address for her is one that goes through the Avondale Church. I have not been able to obtain a direct e-mail address for her. So, while I have sent her a message, by way of the Avondale congregation, I can not be certain that she has actually received it. In my research, I have considered what the Conference official said to me about the book. I have read advertisements for it and I have read reviews, by people about the section that Susan wrote. In reading those various reports, I have discovered an important disconnect. There is an issue that I believe to be important to this discussion on which statements have been made that are directly, as I understand them, opposite to each other. In my thinking, this issue is important as to what I think about Susan's authorship of a chapter in that book. I would have liked to have seen Susan and/or the Conference respond to this issue. I am not going to speculate on the actual fact as to this issue. The reality is that I do not have enough verified information to have an opinion on some aspects of this issue. I am not going to speculate beyond what I can say is actual fact. Personally, I have spent enough time and emotional energy in attempting to contact both Susana and the Conference. So, at this point, absent any further information from either Susan or the Conference, I am through. I am not going to make any further attempt to determine the facts. Speaking as Moderator, in this forum: I am not, at this time, closing this thread. The post by Photodude and the discussion has been within the boundaries of what we allow on this forum. But, this does not mean that it would be appropriate to engage in unlimited speculation, and conversation that does not have a verified factual basis. So, I am requesting that we maintain some limits as to what we post here. To all who have been reading and posting in this thread, thank you for your boundaries up to now. Gregory Matthews

    Who's fooling who?

I agree with Gregory here. In fact, I would appreciate it greatly if we quit trashing politicians altogether on this forum. There is plenty of trashing to go around concerning both sides of the aisle; and continuing it on here will just make enemies. Like it or not, Trump is the duly elected President; and is due the respect of the office until he is no longer President. There is enough of a spirit of disunity in this country. Rather than increase it, we should all be praying that the spirits of hatred and disunity be expelled; and replaced by a Spirit of love and unity. IMHO, that is the will of Jesus.
