I think this statement was proven true in scripture: "At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[a] went into the holy city and appeared to many people." (Matt. 27:51-53) I have to believe these holy people ascended to heaven with Jesus rather than experience the first death a second time. I don't think these holy people had a full concept of who Jesus was or what He would do. They just followed His Law and Spirit to the best of their understanding; and had an intimate relationship with the Being who became Jesus. They likely loved and believed Him to the point that they would readily and gladly receive "doctrinal correction" from the Lord Himself

Maybe you're mistaking me for someone else, or not reading carefully. I've never told others they should offer sacrifices.

That's not true. You might be stuck in traffic about to give birth in your car or a taxi!

Ron, I feel you are getting into the "weeds" of personal criticism and accusation. I say what I believe. I try to state it that way. I don't say "you" are in error, or have posted an "erroneous interpretation". If we can keep from accusing each other or dismissing each other, we can keep our discussion flowing. I realize we will probably never agree on this point, but I still find the discussion worth time and energy, because it makes me think about the best answers to arguments. And I'm open to a change of view, IF I am impressed that truth is on the side of such a change. The LORD changed Saul. He can change me too, if I'm in the wrong. I've given HIM permission to do that.

Those who were presented with the Gospel of Jesus as Messiah, and rejected that message - refusing to seek actual atonement through Jesus Christ, were/are "cut off". They will NOT inherit the promises given to Abraham - either of land or priesthood, or admittance to "the City whose builder and maker is God". One is attached to the Olive Tree (Israel) because of belief, and is "broken off" "because of unbelief" (Romans 11:20). If every DNA descendant of Abraham thru Jacob is/was an heir "due to being physical descendants" then Paul would not have described them as "broken off". Paul also said that God was able to "graft them in again". Romans 11:23 "And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again." When Paul wrote this verse, DNA descendants who had rejected belief in Jesus as the Christ, were NOT ATTACHED to the Olive Tree. Hence they were not regarded as Israelites in the eyes of God, so far as the promises were concerned. It's about faith in Jesus Christ as "the only way" to God the Father. It's not about DNA. Jews could be "broken off for unbelief" and non-Hebrews could be "grafted in" for belief.

Islamist? Yes - "rest of the dead". Saul? Perhaps yes - "rest of the dead". Maybe not. Maybe simply saved. There was a transition period for Israel. Not every Israelite knew about Jesus yet. Some individuals - faithful to Yahweh, may be saved who had not heard of Christ. Many were resurrected by Christ just after He was Himself resurrected (by His Father). Those were faithful individuals from the OT period. They had not heard the Gospel about Jesus. There were resurrected to ascend with Him to Heaven.

Let's just say that Saul died during his campaign to round up believers in Jesus. He believed he was doing what God wanted. Would Saul be "saved" eternally, if he had died before his encounter with Christ risen? He certainly had his "doctrine" wrong. We know that Saul believed that God is, and he wanted to serve HIM. It's the attitude that counts. It was because of Saul's attitude that Christ corrected his "doctrine". If the attitude is right, God will send information to the individual, to show what He wants. If the attitude is right, the individual will respond to that information, and adapt his behavior in response. It's that dynamic relationship that counts.

Those questions, for me, are the easy part of all this. I wont bore anyone tonight with quotes and such; but why do we have to worry about that kind of "obedience?" Its "obedience" to some, and to others not. The thing here is, GOD is the only One who KNOWS the heart; and just how at-one-ment we are with Him. And we dont need to "explain" that to anyone. Gods the only One that gets to look there, although we religious fools and bigots keep trying to find a way around that. You dont NEED doctrine, the doctrine needs you. For example, ressurection. Would that doctrine, or the "mark of the beast" doctrine be the one you take to the bedside of a dying loved one? Know what I mean? The only real purpose of a doctrine is to talk about some aspect of God's character, and when we get all un-hinged about "the law" and who is "not keeping it," we deny the "doctrine of Christ." (oops, I guess I couldn't resist a quote). This is not the full story on what Id like to say, but thats it for tnight.
