    Offerings are dwindling

    The exprnses are those related to earning the income not living expenses which often exced income. Nrverless tithe is beteeen the lndividusl and God. No one needs to be involved.

    Ye Shall Receive Power

    I was impressed to start using a variety of EGW devotional books for this topic. I have quite a number of them in a software program. The intention is to sift through a few of them each day to find something that seems to speak to the hour at hand on a given day. here is today's: Peter's Sifting Resulted in His Conversion The reason so many of Christ's professed disciples fall into grievous temptation is that they have not a correct knowledge of themselves. Here is where Peter was so thoroughly sifted by the enemy. If we could understand our own weakness, we should see so much to do for ourselves that we would humble our hearts under the mighty hand of God. Hanging our helpless souls upon Christ, we would supplement our ignorance with His wisdom, our weakness with His strength, our frailty with His enduring might. Peter fell because he did not know his own frailty. He thought himself strong. . . . Had Peter walked humbly with God, hiding self in Christ; had he earnestly looked for divine help; had he been less self-confident; had he received the Lord's instruction and practised it, he would have been watching unto prayer. . . . Had he closely examined himself, the Lord would have given him divine help and there would have been no need of Satan's sifting. . . . There is no power in the whole satanic force that can disable the soul that trusts, in simple confidence, in the wisdom that comes from God. The watch-care of Christ for Peter was the cause of his restoration. Satan could do nothing against the all-powerful intercession of Christ. And the prayer that Christ offered for Peter He offers in behalf of all who are humble and contrite in heart. . . . Peter sinned against light and knowledge, and against great and exalted privileges. It was self-confidence that caused him to fail, and it is this same evil that is now working in human hearts. It may be our purpose to be right and to do right, but we shall most surely err unless we are constant learners in the school of Christ. Our only safety is in walking humbly with God. Offerings are dwindling

    Tithe was always supposed to be 10% of increase - revenue less expenses. In times when revenue doesn't cover the expenses, tithe disappears - 10% of naught is naught.

    Offerings are dwindling

    Thank you dgrimm; always appreciate your comments. I was really making a much different point though; I have no quarrel about those Bible texts. What I was speaking about are the abuses of the tithe, and the very bad treatment of some who do not deserve such. For example. I know someone who had to go on welfare for a few months, due to medical reasons, so he earned nothing as he was a trucker. But since he was an elder, he was let go from that leadership porition, for "not tithing." No matter how I tried to explain his position to the board members; it didnt atter. "He wasnt tithing," and thats all they cared about. I could also name other, much more blatant matters. But Im not here to drag out all the dirty laundry. If Leaders/church treasurers are ordered to check up on others who are "not tithing, and "report them" this is just going to get worse. And why on earth would the GC pick a time like this to start such a witch hunt? If you read the tithe doctrine, and the spirit of the law there; tithe is a private matter between God and the individual; just like the Sabbath is. I wonder if they will also start "checking up" on "sabbath-breaking" soon too. Then there's the NAD leader who is on public record as calling it "my tithe/our tithe and threatening to with hold tithe dollars from certain ones who are deemed unworthy and not following the party line. We dont need church members doing this kind of thing to one another, especially during times like this. I wonder when they are going to disclose how much of God's money they have lost in the stock markets recently?

    COVID-19

    At the same time anarchy is seeking to sweep away all law, not only divine, but human. The centralizing of wealth and power; the vast combinations for the enriching of the few at the expense of the many; the combinations of the poorer classes for the defense of their interests and claims; the spirit of unrest, of riot and bloodshed; the world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolution--all are tending to involve the whole world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France. {Ed 228.2}

    Church policy is too often the length of a dollar bill. Its been like this for too long, and its not related to "covid-19."

    Trivia

    5 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Houdini_2 On March 24, 1874, Erich Weiss, better known as Harry Houdini, was born in Hungary. He went on to become one of the greatest illusionist and showmen of all time. Here are five things you didn't know about Houdini... He Named Himself After Another Magician. Houdini was born Erik Weisz, but his name was altered to Ehrich Weiss after his family emigrated from Hungary to Wisconsin when he was 4 years old. Young Ehrich—nicknamed “Ehrie” or “Harry”—had a fascination with magic, particularly the work of the famed French conjurer Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin. When he began his own magic career in the 1890s, he paid homage to his hero by adding an “i” to the name “Houdin” to create the stage moniker “Harry Houdini.” Houdini Copyrighted His Most Famous Trick Houdini’s terrifying trick, the Chinese water torture cell, caused him to be lowered into a tank filled with water upside down with his feet locked, so he might have drowned before escaping. Houdini had the trick copyrighted when he included it in his play “Houdini Upside Down!” That way, no other magician could perform it. The first time Houdini performed the escape, he played to an audience of only one person, but he continued to perform it until his death in 1926. He Almost Died During One of His Performances One of the most frightening and dangerous stunts that Houdini performed was to have himself buried alive when he was in Santa Ana, California in 1915. He understandably panicked as he was trying to claw his way through the dirt and get out, This in turn used up his air so he couldn’t call for help. His hand finally broke through the surface, but he passed out after he was pulled up and commented that the “weight of the earth is killing.” Nonetheless, he continued to perform variations on this stunt. He Was An Aviation Pioneer Houdini developed a passion for aviation in 1909, and bought a French-made biplane and learned to fly. He crashed during his first flight, but he stuck with it, and during a tour of Australia in March of 1910, he became the first person to successfully pilot a plane in Australia, making three successful flights near Melbourne, each only a couple of minutes long. He never flew again. Houdini Séances Are Held Every Halloween Houdini vowed to his wife Bess that he would try to contact her from beyond the grave. Houdini died on October 31, 1926, and every year on Halloween, his widow, Bess, conducted a séance, hoping to receive a pre-arranged coded message from Houdini. Bess Houdini spent a decade trying to contact her husband before giving up, supposedly saying, “ten years is long enough to wait for any man.” Others continued the search, however, and since the 1930s, fans have held Houdini séances every Halloween to attempt to communicate with the magician’s ghost.

    3 word devotional

    Definitely appropriate! I notice that people leave all the best vegetables like Kale, beets etc on the shelves, in favour of all the junk foods, which shelves are all bare! God knows what he is talking about here!

    Offerings are dwindling

    As a church treasurer I have received two recent letters asking that we send in the names of the church officers and to make sure there are no officers who do not pay tithe. I understand that with churches being closed that giving is way down and they are scrambling to fix the problem of decreased giving. I have been told that when members miss giving because of church closures that it seldom gets made up later on. Unfortunately, in the NAD they have to deal with the problems related to how they are treating the rest of the world in reducing the amount of tithe sent to them. So, things are going to get real rocky for the financial shape of the church in the future. As offerings dwindle, some churches fear for their future https://religionnews.com/2020/03/23/as-offerings-dwindle-some-churches-fear-for-their-future/
