Ye Shall Receive Power
stinsonmarri reacted to BlessedMan for a topic
This will be a daily post for a little while - from the devotional book "Ye Shall receive Power" Thankfulness There is much needless worrying, much trouble of mind, over things that cannot be helped. The Lord would have His children put their trust fully in Him. Our Lord is a just and righteous God. His children should acknowledge His goodness and His justice in the large and the small things of life. Those who cherish the spirit of worry and complaint are refusing to recognize His guiding hand. Needless anxiety is a foolish thing; and it hinders us from standing in a true position before God. When the Holy Spirit comes into the soul, there will be no desire to complain and murmur because we do not have everything we want; rather, we will thank God from a full heart for the blessings that we have. There is great need of more thankfulness among our workers today; and until they have this spirit they will be unprepared for a place in the kingdom of heaven. There is a mighty work to be done for every one of us. We comprehend but little of what God desires to work out through us. We should seek to realize the breadth of His plans, and profit by every lesson that He [has] tried to teach us. A great deal of mischief is wrought in the imagination of our own hearts and minds when we seek to carry our own way contrary to the law of kindness. Here is where many fail. We do not cultivate a disposition to kindness; we want everything to come in an easy way to ourselves. But the question of greatest importance to each one of us should be not how we can carry our own plans against the plans of others, but how we can have the power to live for Christ every day. Christ came to earth and gave His life that we might have eternal salvation. He wants to encircle each of us with the atmosphere of heaven, that we may give to the world an example that will honor the religion of Christ.--Loma Linda Messages, p. 602.1 point -

HCH, thank you for your response. You have just made my day as you have demonstrated that your interpret the Bible by outside secular data instead of listening to what the Bible is actually saying. * The basic Biblical verse is found in Daniel 12: 11-13. * A reading of several of the translations states that the time period is to end as the end of the specified days. * IOW, the 1335 days time period ends at the end of the 1335 days, not the beginning of the 1335th day and the end of the 1290 days, not the beginning of the 1290th day. * The date calculator that you used ended the specified time period that you entered at the beginning of the specified day. That introduced an error into your calculation. * I am aware that you may attempt to tell me that the introduced error was that of one day and I stated that you were two days off. I will let you figure out that question. I have given you a clue that shows your date calculator did not follow the Biblical statement. * I will say again: You need to learn to let the Bible speak for itself and not read into the text something form current secular events. Take a calendar and count the days, as I did. Do not depend on a secular date calculator without verifying what it tells you.1 point -

HCH has often stated that he is a student that gets things wrong. Probably all of us agree that eh does get things wrong. In his video, he begins a 1290 day prophecy on September 20, 2016 and ending on April 2, 2020. I decided to see if he counted correctly. 2016 100 days between September 20 and the end of the year. 2017 365 days in the year. 2018 365 days in the year. 2019 365 days in the year. 2020 095 days The ending 95th day was April 4, not April 2. NOTE: February had 29 says as it was a Leap Year 1290 TOTAL DAYS It is clear that HCHs count was off by two days. In addition, he had a total misunderstanding as to what the Bible actually taught.1 point -

Yes, We knew the whole time but that just gave more meaning to "making each day count" as much as possible. No matter how hard it got on some days, we always felt and experienced God's presence. The last words she said to me was "I love you too..."1 point -

Is the Virus a sign of the End?

Pierrepaul: Actually Mrs. White did comment on the first world war, and in a lot of ways that war is still going on and the events she predicted has been growing since then. Now about Sunday laws. Amos says that God will do nothing without revealing it to the prophets. There was a two direction eschatology through out the Old Testament: Either they were faithful in the land and the world will come to them to learn the truth. Or else if they were unfaithful they would suffer curses and if nothing else worked then they would go into exile. The exile was to have been the last days, the Hebrews were to teach their neighbors about their God and God's faithfulness and their unfaithfulness. The exile was supposed to end in a second great exodus lead by the messiah. Daniel changed this eschatology into another 490 years in the land and what would have happened had Jesus been accepted. He would have set up the kingdom upon raising from the dead after 3 1/2 years in the tomb. Jesus was not accepted, so he spend only 3 days in the tomb and needed a second coming, and tied it to the fall of Jerusalem. Hebrews explains why Jesus did not (or would not) come back around the time of the fall of Jerusalem, and was focused on his heavenly ministry for us that he would not have been able to do if he came back. But this caused the church to loose it's first love, so Revelation had the theme of "Preach again!!!" and the last days could have been connected to the Domitian persecution, but did not allow Domitian to get a swelled head about being the great Antichrist, that the last days happening in his persecution was still based on the gospel being spread to the whole world. Any sign of the end is based on the gospel being preached into all the world. But God has given us different situations where it could have happened. If the basic principles can apply we can stay with the basic principles. If history changes too much (for example we are not in the Babylon captivity) God will apply the principles to new applications as the times warrant. Joachin of Flore made applications to soon after his time (and principles that were picked up by the Franciscans and evolved over time into Adventism and Millerism and one of the major threads that came together to form Seventh-day Adventism). A basic situation under a great empire such as Rome and the Holy Roman empire with Papal supremacy could have been applied during the 4th and 5th heads. But as we went under the 6th head and then moving towards the 7th needed a new prophet to give principles for the time we are living in. Mrs. White sees Sabbath and Sunday playing a role in the Christian world, but indications that there will be other testing issues outside of the Christian world. She also grew from "Sunday Laws" to the issue of "Liberty of Conscience." Sadly we have not caught up to her. The typical Adventist reads the words such as "Liberty of conscious threatened" we have an automatic spell check in our mind so that by the time those words reach our brain they have been translated into the words "Sunday Law" which we read back into her text. Her eschatology is Catholicism, Apostate Protestantism joining with existentialism (spiritualism), and that we will face tests where we need to compromise something in our conscience to go along with the system, and we have to evaluate if we are really following the truth as we understand it, and will we allow others who have different understandings than we do to follow their conscience or will we pressure them into compliance. This is her basic eschatology, Sunday laws or not, and she did see issues with Sabbath and Sunday with possibility Sunday laws (whether completed or not) bringing the test to the Christian community, and similar tests for others.1 point -

Your post shows a great deal lacking in basic Bible passages and their meaning, as well as a complete misstatement re "SDA prophecy" and Seventh-day Adventist History. history. Essentially, your post is just an opinion.(which of course is fine too). But I see nothing that can be supported here at all. The Bible essentially does say "these things have been around since time immemorial" as they are mentioned throughout Scripture, including during end time scenarios; and for some reason, you seem to call it "only generally mentioned" as if that would be precluding any application to whats going on now?. I have no idea how that could be supported from scripture.1 point -

Trivia

5 Things You Didn't Know About World War I_3 On April 6, 1917, America formally entered World War I after the U.S. Congress voted to declare war on Germany. Here are five interesting facts you probably didn't know about the war to end all wars... Spanish Flu Caused Many of the Deaths During World War I The Spanish Flu spread like wildfire through trenches along Europe’s Western Front and U.S. military camps. It was reported that between September and November 1918, between 20 and 40 percent of those in the U.S. Navy and Army were sickened by the Spanish flu. Influenza and pneumonia killed more American soldiers and sailors during the war than did enemy weapons. Three of the Main Leaders During the War Were Cousins King George V of Great Britain, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany were all cousins, and all were descended from England’s King George II. Unfortunately, the first two cousins were fighting on the opposite side of Kaiser Wilhelm, who was King George’s first cousin and a third cousin to the tsar. Although they did not at first believe that Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s assassination would lead to a war, it did, and the rest is history. Americans Became Anti-German Because of the War German was commonly spoken in the United States before World War I due to mass emigration from Germany to Pennsylvania during the 1680s. But many states banned speaking German in public during World War I after war was declared. The language was removed from many school curriculums too. The sentiment against Germans even extended to foods when potatoes that were fried were renamed American fries and kraut was called liberty cabbage. Alsatian was the new name for German shepherds and the dachshund renamed the liberty pup or badger dog. A Homing Pigeon Saved 194 Men’s Lives Over 200,000 homing pigeons were used during the war to deliver messages for the U.S. military, and Cher Ami (Dear Friend) was one of the birds trained to do just that. At the Battle of Argonne, France, American soldiers, stranded behind enemy lines without any ammunition or supplies, sent Cher Ami and two other pigeons out with a message detailing their location and asking that the shelling by Allied forces be stopped because about 300 of them had been killed by friendly fire. Two of the pigeons were killed, but Cher Ami, despite losing a leg, an eye and being shot in the chest, delivered her message after flying 25 miles. She is credited with saving almost two hundred men. World War I Led to the Rise of Adolf Hitler When the war ended in 1918, Germany was ordered to pay 269 billion marks in reparations, which was equal to about 100,000 tons of gold. Although the amount for reparations was lowered later, Germany found itself deeply in debt with high inflation and massive unemployment. The Nazi Party saw this as a way to blame the Allies for their troubles, and Adolf Hitler, after seizing power, built a strong army and started World War II instead.1 point -

Mat_24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. Luk_21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. In the literal sense, "pestilences, as used in scripture could mean "plague" such as diseases, in the figurative sense which is sometimes used, it could mean "a pest" which a disease such as Covid19 would meet both general descriptors. Again; Jesus said this, not me or anyone else in this thread. Before Jesus mentioned these "pestilences, the question was asked by His disciples: The very first thing Jesus mentioned in His response to the question about "what shall be the sign" was to take great care that "no man deceive you." (Mat 24:4). In Mat 24:5, after Jesus mentioned "wars & rumors of war..." He mentioned "pestilences" in Mat 24:7. Luke 21:11 In summary; our Lord mentioned that all of these signs "are the beginning of sorrows." Like it or not, the world-wide scope of so-called Covid19 is a part of said "beginning of sorrows." Its actually not a denominational thing to say that. Its Biblical. And it is physically observable to be happening now, just as Jesus said. Mat 24:9-10 details exactly what you say wont happen. Mat 24:1-13 seems to be saying that the deepening crises will increase, incrementally, step by step. And that the "signs" will reveal character, and effect what is called in Mat 24:14 as "...the gospel of the kingdom being preached in all the world, as A WITNESS." The crises, as it develops and widens will reveal character; and THAT witness will be revealed. I think you would have to do much better if you want to accuse Adventists of something here. It is interesting to note that Jesus also said: "MANY SHALL BE OFFENDED..." (Mat 24:10)1 point -

When you start making prophecies and setting dates and further pronounce doom on those who do not follow you, ... you have gone beyond just being a Bible Student. Your prophecies are your own private interpretations which is OK for a start, but they should be studied with other CREDITABLE students of prophecy. If others can come to a similar conclusion, you MIGHT be on to something. If none agree, then keep them to yourself. But I see no evidence you have done that. (FWIW, I keep a number of things to myself that I have discovered in Scripture. Some because they are not important to salvation and others I just feel bound to not speak of them. I suspect that many have private and not germane to the immediate needs of the gospel that they keep to themselves.) Interpretation of prophecies in the early SDA church, along with other doctrinal issues, came by way of group study. It is true that some came to a startling conclusion, but then it was group verified in serious Bible study. (For example, Crozier's epiphany of the heavenly scene of the investigative judgement.) Also, keep in mind that in this day and age, doctrines that deceive will come dime a dozen inspired by the dark side. You should be looking for signs that you might be following the dark side and you probably won't be able to figure out that for yourself. Even John the Revelator fell to the ground to worship an angel, before being told to get on his feet. When Satan impersonates Jesus, the whole world (except the very elect) will fall to the ground to worship him. This is likely the delusion that will deceive the whole world. And that is not far away. So, stop being obsessed with Mike Pence and start following Michael the Prince (aka Jesus).1 point -

I have long since wearied of the constant "sign of the end". Why? As I enter my 5th decade on the planet, I've heard the following proclaimed as "signs of the end" The Iran-US hostage crisis; Pope JP II meeting Ronald Reagan; The shooting down of the Korean airliner; The fall of the Berlin Wall; Maastricht Treaty; The US-led coalition's war to evict the Iraqis from Kuwait and George Bush's "New World Order" speech The SF earthquake in '89 interrupting the World Series; The September 2001 terrorist attacks and the ensuing "war on terror" The death of JPII and the election of a "conservative hardline" pope in Benedict XVI The resignation of Benedict XVI and the election of a "liberal non-tradition" Jesuit pope in Francis I The Isis war in Syria It may be that we are in the end times (I sincerely doubt this), and therefore this could be an event happening "in" the end times; but I do not see how it could be a sign "of" the end times. Pestilences have occurred since time immemorial. Modern travel means that unlike the Black Death which took months and years to make its way around Europe, COVID-19 jumped the oceans in a matter of days and weeks, but it's the same idea. Covid-19 won't wipe out a third of the world's population like the Black Death. Covid-19 won't contribute to the wiping out of 90% of the population of a continent (like smallpox, slavery and other diseases and oppression did to the indigenous populations of the Americas). In 50-75 years from now, students of history will read about Covid-19 and it's aftermath. Other scholars, from economists or epidemiologists will study the response and effects of the response for years to come. Depending on how severe the aftermath will be (recession with quick rebound, or depression taking years to recover and fueling extremists political movements), will determine whether or not society in 100 years will be generally aware of Covid-19 like we today are aware of the Great Depression of the 1930s, or if it will be like the depression of the 1870s that none but specialists and history nuts even know about today.1 point -
My Wife Died: I Did What God Asked
JoeMo reacted to BlessedMan for a topic
[she just died in my arms] ? The light of the warm home fire went out. Darkness brooded over the face of every familiar, and precious thing. The trusted companion, and love of my life who had shared all of the changes of the ever-changing way, was taken from my side. The light of our sweet fellowship, and of our loving journey was suddenly extinguished as if by some mysterious, unseen hand stretched forth from the unknown. I was alone. "At even, my wife died; and...in the morning... "But what about that next morning, when the light broke almost obtrusively upon a world that had changed into a cemetery, containing only one grave? "In the morning; I did what I was commanded." The command had been laid upon me in the days before my bereavement. Life in our little home has been a source of true inspirational fellowship, and loving companionship. In the evening times, after all of the many little things there were to do in a day; we would both turn to our home, and being together, as the perfect comfort, and rejuvenation. Immersed in the sweet sanctities of married life, the romance never ended. No matter how sick she got. It just continued. We both found in our togetherness, the restoration and inspiration, that would prepare us for another day. But, today; The home is no longer a refreshing bath, or a loving embrace, or a lovingly cooked meal. And the hard, dusty road travelled each day will lead no more to an oasis; but rather to a roiling continuance of the wilderness. But, what of the prophet's command here? How does the old duty appear in the gloom of my bereavement? Duty, still clamant and insistent, now absorbed into the shadows; as it became loud and importunate in the light. What now shall I do? Take up the old burden, and faithfully trudge the old road? Impossible. Go out into the loneliness, and try to go on with the old tasks? But why? Perhaps I will find the secret of that little bit of light at the end of this chapter, from Ezekiel 24? Being broken-hearted doesnt have to be the end of the story. Perhaps going back to some of the old duties; and by the manner of so doing, others will be compelled to believe in Jesus too? Is that the secret motive in the "dark night of the soul?" Our wonderful Lord wants our conspicuous crises to be opportunities of testimony; our seasons of darkness should afford some sort of unveiling of The Divine. Jesus wants duty to shine more resplendently, because of the environing shadows of grieving; Jesus only wants my tribulation to assist in "letting my Light shine." And I WILL let it shine tomorrow. Isnt that why Paul says: Jesus wants to manifest the sweet grace of continuance; of searching for the little bit of light and opportunity amid all of the sudden and saddening upheavals of this stormy life. This was Ezekiel's triumph; and that leaves me to wonder, can this be my opportunity too? Could I possibly make my calamity a witness to the eternal? Will I too be able to make my decrepit loneliness minister to our Lord? Is my grieving able to intensify my calling to go beyond this insistent hour of grief? Sure; I can take up the old task. And in taking it up; it can be glorified...as I "choose this day whom I will serve..." "At even, my wife died. And in the morning I will do what God tells me. The evening sorrow has come to me. How shall it be for me, once the funeral is over? That "joy that comes in the morning," (Psalms 30:5), for me will be the resurrection morning. Truly, "weeping may endure for the night; but joy comes in the morning." (Psalms 30:5) I will expect that special morning...that Light In The Clouds When Jesus gathers us all together, unto Himself on the resurrection morning. As long as the darkness lasts; I will expect that Light. I will wake up every day, expecting the light of Christ in the dark clouds. (1 Thes 4: 13-18) In the thick darkness, (Job 38:9) Jesus is there. Jesus comes near "in the thick darkness..." I expect it. (Deut 4:11) I cry... Abba. Father.... _____________ "There is always a little light..."0 points -

Epidemics, pandemics, viruses, virulent bacteria, etc. are only referred to in the Bible generally; and these things have been around since time immemorial. "Pestilence" is mentioned in the Bible, but the present pandemic certainly isn't singled out. Similarly "earthquakes" are mentioned in the Bible, but the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 most certainly was not singled out. "Wars" are mentioned in the Bible, but no specific war is mentioned in prophecy (and curiously, the two greatest wars in all of history, WWI & WWII, never get a mention in SDA prophecy). In this case, a creative imagination is also required.0 points
