Here's your (not so) totally useless fact(s) of the day:

In the early 1900s, there was a U.S. baseball team made up of death row inmates. Their executions were postponed as long as they kept winning. (interesting article) James

    oops!

Family members of U.S. military people and some former military members receive medical care under a program that is essentially an insurance program. This program is managed by several contractors who cover geographic areas of the United States. Humana Military is the contractor that manages this program for some 31 of the States in the Eastern part of the U.S. Friday, July17, 2020, Humana Military notified some 600,000 people covered under this program that they had the COVID-19 virus! This was an error. None of the people notified had the virus. Later that day the error was discovered (People began contacting Humana Military and asking questions.) and an apology was sent to all. For those who are interested in actual figures, some 31,418 military members and their family members are believed to have contracted the virus.

Interpreting Biblical Apocalyptic (25): Revelation 12

A good reason to choose Revelation 12 as a sample passage for detecting apocalyptic is that it is widely seen as a center and key to the entire book. In addition, Adventists understand Revelation 12 to offer an apocalyptic prophecy of three sequential stages of Christian history. The first stage is the Christ-event back in […] The post Interpreting Biblical Apocalyptic (25): Revelation 12 appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog. View the full article

Also very interesting that God WAITS For Us "And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you...blessed are all they that wait f or him" (Isa_30:18). We must not only think of our waiting upon God, but also of what is more wonderful still, of God’s waiting upon us. The vision of Him waiting on us, will give new impulse and inspiration to our waiting upon Him. It will give us unspeakable confidence that our waiting cannot be in vain. Let us seek even now, at this moment, in the spirit of waiting on God, to find out something of what it means. He has inconceivably glorious purposes concerning every one of His children. And you ask, "How is it, if He waits to be gracious, that even after I come and wait upon Him, He does not give the. help I seek, but waits on longer and longer?" God is a wise husbandman, "who waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it." (James 5:7) He cannot gather the fruit till it is ripe. He knows when we are spiritually ready to receive the blessing to our profit and His glory. Waiting in the sunshine of His love is what will ripen the soul for His blessing. Waiting under the cloud of trial, that breaks in showers of blessings, is as needful. Be assured that if God waits longer than you could wish, it is only to make the blessing doubly precious. God waited four thousand years, till the fullness of time, ere He sent His Son. Our times are in His hands; He will avenge His elect speedily; He will make haste for our help, and not delay one hour too long.

  9. Old Testament RootsWhen reading the Book of Revelation one is plunged fully into the atmosphere of the Old Testament. No book of the New Testament is as saturated with the Old as this one is. But while it is not difficult to recognize the central place of the Old Testament in the Book of Revelation, […] The post Interpreting Biblical Apocalyptic (24): Detecting Apocalyptic Sequences II appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog. 10. Before we take up the analysis of Revelation 12, I would like to lay out some principles for detecting apocalyptic sequencing in the symbolic visions of the Apocalypse. It is not appropriate to force a chapter into the historicist mode if that was not the intention of the text. We must allow the characteristics and […] The post Interpreting Biblical Apocalyptic (23): Detecting Apocalyptic Sequences appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog. View the full article

  11. While the early critical consensus was that the book of Revelation was primarily apocalyptic, that consensus has been seriously challenged. Some scholarly discussions of Revelation’s genre suggest that it is more prophetic than apocalyptic, others suggests a “prophetic-apocalyptic” genre, still others highlight the epistolary aspect of the book. What is clear is that the genre […] The post Interpreting Biblical Apocalyptic (22): The Adventist Approach to Revelation II appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog. View the full article
