    Trivia

5 Things You Didn't Know About Bugs Bunny On July 27, 1940, Bugs Bunny made his official debut in A Wild Hare, as a wise-cracking, smart-aleck rabbit. Here are 5 little-known facts you didn't know about Bugs Bunny, who debuted 80 years ago today... He First Appeared As An Extra In a Porky Pig Cartoon The then-unnamed rabbit was created in 1938 for a cartoon starring Porky Pig called “Porky’s Duck Hunt” that was well-received. The name Bugs Bunny didn’t appear on the title card of the cartoon until 1941, following the success of “Elmer’s Pet Rabbit.” His Mannerisms Were Inspired By Famous Actors A number of famous people were combined to create Bugs, including silent stars Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Bugs’ nonchalant, carrot-eating manner was inspired by a scene in It Happened One Night, when the fast-talking Clark Gable snacks on carrots while leaning on a fence. Groucho Marx used his cigar as a prop, and so does Bugs in the cartoons, even going so far as to borrow one of the comedian's lines, “'Of course, you know, this means war!” in 1953’s “Bully for Bugs.” He Appeared in World War II Military Propaganda During World War II, instructional cartoons were made to educate American troops in areas such as protecting secrets, avoiding booby traps, and sanitation. Bugs made cameos in some of these cartoons. The main character was Private Snafu, whose voice was performed by Mel Blanc, who was Bugs Bunny’s voice. One of the writers was Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel). The cartoons were considered top secret and even workers who put together the animations at Warner Bros. were not allowed to see the finished product. Bugs May Have Saved Mel Blanc’s Life Mel Blanc was in a serious car accident in 1961 when his Astin Martin collided with another vehicle along Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, which left him in a coma. He didn’t awaken until two weeks later when the doctor asked him, “Bugs Bunny, how are you doing today?” and Blanc replied in Bugs' voice, "What’s up Doc?” Later, the doctor would say of the incident,“It seemed like Bugs Bunny was trying to save his life.” Bugs Bunny Is Used in Psychological Studies In several psychological studies about false beliefs psychologists have shown patients fake advertising for Disney World featuring Bugs Bunny. According to the studies, a significant number of subjects claim to have gone to Disney World and met Bugs Bunny even though Bugs is a character from Warner Brothers and would never have appeared at a theme park owned by Disney.

Powerful! One part that was very impressive was when he said that Adventists tend to have this hierarchy of authority: 1.) Tradition 2.) Ellen White 3.) Church authority and 4.) Bible. I think that I'd make a 1a.) if not a new #2 and push the others down a number, and add "Fundamentalism" right behind tradition. These are important topics as in the future the Christian church as a whole will be dealing the Bible for the exact same reasons why people tend to give up on Mrs. White. Our working out appropriate ways to deal with Mrs. White we are also preparing to help our Baptist and other Christian friends when they are dealing with the issues with the Bible that does not reach the fundamentalists perspective. The quote he gave from Selected Messages reminds me a lot of the many letters I read in the White Estate vault between Mrs. White and/or Willie to people such as Elder Washburn and Wilkinson and others who are very popular with the so called "Historic Adventists" and Fulcrum7 etc. And we see the power of how they tended to use Mrs. White in the comment by frankpeachamvt that accuses what Dr. Knight as writing as revisionist and that we find all sorts of teachings of perfection in her writings and quotes a couple that he thinks solves the issue. Now I'm not sure if frankpeachamvt is a supporter of the views popular in Fulcrum7 or if he's a rejecting Mrs. White because of the pain that the so called "Historic Adventists" have made on people's lives and does not want to change his picture of her in his mind. Mrs. White talks about victory over sin, but she has a balanced view that we sometimes miss between the so called "Historic Adventist" views and our traditions. One thing I'd like to add to this article is how Mrs. White's writings fit in 3 basic categories: First for the buildup of the church from the great disappointment into a church then the health and education outreach and the restructuring of the church and her last battle (which she lost and died while fighting) trying to keep fundamentalism out of the church. This would include things like how to work a city. The second category is personal testimonies, warning people about things in their life that was having a bad effect on their spiritual life. The third is the issues of the Great Controversy. The 3 revelations of the trinity, Satan's 3 deceptions, one against each member of the trinity, how many of the threes in the Bible deal with this, and the powerful chapters on Gethsemane and "It is Finished" and how the 3 deceptions of Satan are answered in the 3 angels messages.

    Spiritual Abuse

All of our six children have left the SDA Church. In fact, only two are Christians - one the wife of a Calvary Chapel preacher. We have asked them why; and the prevalent answer is because of the nightmares from fire and brimstone church sermons and persecution from my extended family (all good Catholics) because of our hatred of Catholicism and the papcy, not to mention strict veganism and Sabbath "rules". I think back on what "good" SDA's we were; and fear that we caused our children to lose salvation over how strict we were; thinking we were doing the right thing. I pray the HS will reach our children's hearts as well as the hearts of other people - children and adults - who turned their backs on God because of how strict He was and because of their despair about not meeting the mark set by our dear Sister White.

    John Saxon

John Saxon, a Star of ‘Enter the Dragon,’ Is Dead at 83 He was sometimes compared to Marlon Brando — whom he thought he had outacted in the one film they made together, “The Appaloosa.” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/28/arts/television/john-saxon-dead.html
