A 32 Letter English Alphabet
phkrause reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
How many of you remember, or even knew that the English alphabet once contained contained 32 letters? How many of those now missing letters can you either name or write? NOTE: In fairness to you, some of those letters are what we would call a digraph today. For more information, see: https://www.rd.com/list/there-were-six-more-letters-in-our-alphabet/1 point -

5 Things You Didn't Know About World War II_3 On September 1, 1939, World War II began when an estimated 1.5 million German troops crossed Germany's shared border with Poland. Here are 5 lesser known facts you never knew about World War II... One U.S. Division Wore a Swastika on Their Uniforms The 45th Infantry Division wore on their uniform a traditional Native American symbol of good luck: a pair of angled bars intersecting at the middle that we would today recognize as a swastika. For 15 years this adorned the uniforms of the division's members, which contained members from Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, and New Mexico (areas with a rich Native American tradition). However, as the Nazis rose to power, the group ditched the symbol an swapped in a Thunderbird design. Hitler Executed 84 of His Own Generals There were numerous plots to kill Hitler after he rose to power, and he executed at least 84 of his own generals during the war. Most of the executions were due to the discovery that the men were plotting against him, including a bomb plot designed to assassinate him on July 20, 1944. It was called Operation Valkyrie when a German military officer placed a bomb under Hitler’s desk but failed to kill him, resulting in the executions of 4,980 military officers and civilians in retaliation. Nazis Considered Fighting England With Potato Beetles The Nazis considered dropping millions of potato beetles along England’s east coast, which was believed to be the location of hundreds of thousands of hectares of potato fields. The aim of the Nazis was to cause widespread famine in England by destroying this essential food crop. Although several million of the pesky bugs had already been stockpiled, it would have taken nearly 40 million to do the job, so the idea was abandoned. A 12-Year-Old Boy Was in the U.S. Navy A Texas lad, Calvin Graham, was only 12 when he borrowed clothing from an older brother, forged his mother’s name and joined the U.S. Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The boy served as a gunner on the USS South Dakota and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his heroism. Graham's mother spotted him on newsreel footage and alerted the military of her son's duplicity. He was dishonorably discharged but hailed as a hero by his hometown. Two-Thirds of Soviet Men Born in 1923 Didn't Survive the War An economics professor at the University of Warwick, Mark Harrison, claims that 68 percent of males born in the Soviet Union in 1923 did not survive World War II. However, he says nearly half of that number died before the war started because of civil war, famine, disease, and lack of sanitation and antibiotics. When Germany first attacked their country, they were just 18.1 point -

Sunday Laws and Bible Prophecy (2): How God Works in the World
phkrause reacted to news for a topic
Unfulfilled prophecy has been the bane of prophetic interpreters for millennia. Even Seventh-day Adventists have a somewhat checkered history with it, as the Great Disappointment indicates. When we talk about Sunday laws in the final events of earth’s history, we are dealing with unfulfilled prophecy. There is a prophetic prediction. The fulfillment has not yet […] The post Sunday Laws and Bible Prophecy (2): How God Works in the World appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog. View the full article1 point -

Review Article on SDA Work in Europe & Today
phkrause reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
The Adventist Review has posted an article on SDA work in Europe and for two reasons, I am commenting on it. I consider it to be a brief summarized statement that is informative. I would have wished that the author would have told us that Michael Czechowski who pioneered SDA work in Europe was sent to Europe as a Baptist missionary. He taught SDA doctrines, but, united his converts in independent congregations that were not aware of the existence of the SDA denomination. You may see the SDA Encyclopedia for some of this. The second reason that I reference this Review article is a comment made on the article. In brief, that comment suggests an issue that SDAs should consider as they prepare to vote in the coming November election. Remember, you read it in the Review. If you wish to access this, see: https://www.adventistreview.org/adventists-in-europe NOTE: In my comment above I confused some of what Louis Conradi did with that of Czecho2wski. PROTESTING THE DEVIL!
stinsonmarri reacted to Theophilus for a topic
Want you to know that I am not asking in a snotty way,but just want a reference. Can you explain this further? And where do you get all of your information? It almost reads like the Two Babylons! It is fascinating and I enjoyed reading. I have so many things written down that I am going to look up. Btw, I love Josephus! I like what he wrote about Genesis, as well as other things. I like Herodotus, too. Anyway, thank you SO much for your informative post! Don't know that I agree, but it looks like somebody did their homework!1 point -
PROTESTING THE DEVIL!

What is cool with Pastor Doug is that there is social distancing and it is being done outside. I agree with you. This is sensible and practical. I didn't know what to expect when I read this thread. I know that a lot of Adventist folk are kinda using it as "See, we are supposed to be in church, no matter what" I love going to church, but am in the high risk. And God told his people to stay inside when the Angel of Death passed over. I try to use my Sabbath time time to learn as much as I can, watch videos on you tube. Thank God (thank you Lord SO much) for all of the knowledge given and accessible! Your post is absolutely fascinating.1 point
