    Evacuation in Crisis

NOTE: The following material was prepared and published by the Northern California Conference. I have edited it to remove some content specific to the NCC, such as telephone numbers. I am posting it as I believe it will be helpful to people living outside of the Northern California—Gregory Matthews. The following tips are lessons learned from personal experiences of wildfire survivors in our territory. The links provided direct you to sites maintained by state, county, city, or public media. STAY CONNECTED, INFORMED, AND COMMUNICATE IS KEY • Connect to your county/city/state emergency alert system. Click here to find yours. • Create a phone tree with your neighbors and/or church members that can act as an early warning system as well. • Identify church members/neighbors that might need extra assistance to evacuate and create a plan. • [Material removed—GM] PREPARE TO EVACUATE • Take a video of your home inside and out. • Create a go-bag for each family member and/or pet(s). Click for an example of what to put in your go-bag. Keep it packed and in an easily accessible pathway to your exit door or car. Plastic duffle bags are convenient, waterproof, easy to stuff, and cram into the car. • Pre-pack items in your car so you know where things will fit. • Create various evacuation plans and practice them. The less thinking the better. • Scenario 1. You have 1 minute to leave. • Scenario 2. You have 1 hour to leave. • Scenario 3. You are in a warning zone but have time. • Drive various evacuation routes and look for potential issues. Familiarize yourself with the side roads and turn around points of each route. Take note of low-hanging trees. Narrow two-lane roads. Find the best route and put it into your evacuation plan. • Create and save pre-determined routes in your phone’s navigation app. Relying on voice direction commands while driving can reduce stress and mistakes. However, be prepared to change your plans. • Buy a pair of yellow tinted glasses that will help you see better in smoky, dark roads. • Install backup room lights that operate on batteries and solar/battery-powered lights along the outside of your house along the evacuation pathway. LED switch style lights in every room and solar-powered lights on a deck or pathway are helpful. EVACUATION Evacuation happens in stages, especially if you leave immediately. Understanding this will help with that overwhelming feeling. Stage 1 - First 30 minutes to 3 hours • Find a safe place to stop and assess your situation. • Let the stress and adrenaline drop to normal levels. • Activate the phone tree or reach out to your loved ones if possible. • If your church or school is the safe place, you might want to create a plan at the site prior to the disaster. • Once you are sure about your short-term plan for shelter and food, activate it. Stage 2 – Short Term (within hours to 3 days) • Assess and decide on your short-term options for shelter and other vital resources (1 to 3 days). Hotel. Friend’s house. Evacuation Center. • Register at the official evacuation site as soon as possible, even if you are not staying there. They will have resources and most importantly the registration will help with recovery. • Connect your local pastor/head elder . [This has been edited—GM.] Stage 3 – Mid-Term (3 to 14 days) • This is the most difficult time because you are not sure when you will be allowed back into your home, if you have a home to return to, and if so, what state it will be in when the evacuation order is lifted. You just have to keep praying for patience and wisdom as you make decisions. • Evaluate your mid-term options (4 to 14 days). May include connecting with your insurance provider to help with temporary housing. • Continue to stay informed with official sites [edited—GM] or your law enforcement sites. Do not rely on the news or word of mouth as this can cause more confusion. It usually takes officials a few days to get the information flow going but having been through a couple of fires over the years, law enforcement and [edited—GM] are doing a much better job. They usually review information at 6 AM and 6 PM on their social media channels. Stage 4 – Long-term plan • Establish your long-term plan if it looks like you will be evacuated for some time. RECOVERY • You are your best advocate and do not be afraid to ask question or challenge decisions. Recovery is a process, so pray for patience and wisdom. • Being informed will help with recovery. Review your insurance policy now and understand what you should do, when you should do it, and what to expect. • Even if you just evacuate, this is trauma, and the trauma may show up in unusual areas of your life and those in your family. Be aware of them and seek counsel if you are unprepared to deal with them. • Be careful of scams and people/organizations who are trying to help. The best place to seek help/resources is at the evacuation centers established by your county or city. • When you are allowed back to your home still standing but the power was off, prepared to throw all your food away. Take large trash bags/cans, masks, and gloves and clean out your refrigerator and all your stored food.

Well, that's obviously false. The Bible depicts 3 distinct entities in Revelation 4, for example. The Father upon the throne, the HS as the 7 lamps of fire, and the slain lamb. In Daniel 7, we have the Ancient of Days, the river of fire, and the Son of Man. Haskell's article sees the distinct persons of God as essential to Adventism due, in part, to this depiction in Daniel 7: "If God has no personality, there is no sanctuary in heaven, for God dwells in it; there are no angels, for they compose his throne; there is no Satan, for he is a fallen angel, and was cast out of heaven (John 12 : 31 ; Luke HI: 18) the Bible is a myth, and bears false tes- timony, because it declares all this." Advent Review and Sabbath Herald | October 8, 1903 | Adventist Digital Library The heavenly sanctuary is foundational to Adventism. The unsubstantiated claims you have made to which I refer include: 1. That EGW herself ever wrote against the "trinity." 2. That Kellogg's issues with the denomination pertained to his belief in the "trinity." 3. That EGW's references to the personality of God were in themselves anti-trinitarian.

THE WAY OF THE NEW COVENANT

THE WAY OF THE NEW COVENANT “People of the book” have inflicted great suffering and sometimes even death upon millions of precious human beings made in God’s image and likeness (see 2 Corinthians 3:6). Being guided by the Spirit of God (love, joy, and peace) rather than by a written document of any kind is the way of the New Covenant and brings healing, restoration, and unity (see Jeremiah 31:33; Ezekiel 36:26; Romans 8:14; Hebrews 8:10; 1 John 2:27). Gustave, this wasn't a topic that interested me in previous times; however, I have become interested. I've also figured out how to use the filters at the EGW writings website. Those are very helpful in eliminating duplicate statements. Instead of ~200 or more statements, there are only ~50 on the "personality of God." I've not found any statements I would consider anti-trinity. Definitely many which place the personality of God issue in the context of Kellogg's pantheism. The word "personality" would better be understood as "personhood." She refers to Christ and the Father as distinct personalities. It appears that she means distinct persons. I didn't notice the mention of the Holy Spirit in any statement referring to the personalities/personhood of God and Christ. I did notice the following: "This Scripture is applicable to all who regard God as He is represented in Living Temple. Those who continue to accept the sophistry in this book will be led on and on in delusion, just as were many to whom I was commissioned to bear a testimony after the passing of the time in 1844." 18 ltrms, ms 137 par. 23, 1903 "Just such theories as you have presented in Living Temple were presented then. These subtle, deceiving sophistries have again and again sought to find place amongst us. But I have ever had the same testimony to bear which I now bear regarding the personality of God." 18 ltrms ltr 253,1903 Apparently this was an issue around 1844, which was news to me. So you have quoted from James White, U. Smith, Dudley Canright [my uncle by marriage 4 generations back] and Stephen Haskell but not EGW. These are mere men, with no authority. You have yet to reveal a clear statement from EGW contra the trinity. Haskell was 10 years old in 1844. His article from October of 1903 carries no special authority, just his opinion. The issue of the trinity is, more or less meaningless, to some people. SDA are not Roman Catholics. The denomination is much closer to JWs in many respects than it is to RC. I don't understand the nature of the Godhead. Nobody does, this side of heaven. EGW herself was careful about her remarks on the subject. She definitely took issue with Kellogg around 1900 and apparently others in earlier days. That issue was clearly related to pantheism. If EGW was an Arian along with other pioneers, no matter to me. What I know is that, whatever the relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, it is such that I can live forever because Jesus died on the cross for my sins
