    Confession & the Law

The following article addressed the issue as to whether or not clergy my lawfully be required to report to civil authorities abuse. The article is of value and is interesting. My personal position is that under the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, clergy may not be required to report such abuse if that information is obtained in an attempt of the person to get right with God. However, information obtained outside of a confessional setting, may be required to be reported. This was the position that I taught at the Army Chaplain School and my position was fully supported by my legal advisors. In addition, I have seen clergy prosecuted for not reporting information that came to them outside of a confessional setting. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/churches-defend-clergy-loophole-in-child-sex-abuse-reporting/ar-AA12kvHz?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=cde9c73e5221436f92c715c6e43cff51

    Food For Thought

USAA is a very large financial services company which, with a few exceptions, limits their services to members of the U.S. military and their families. I have a number of their products, with a focus on insurance policies. My 2nd son has not purchased their products. A few days ago he called his auto insurance company to make a few changes in his auto policy. In that conversation he informed the representative that he was not totally happy with his company and was considering changing to USAA. In responding the sales representative informed him that USAA was the company that insured her and he should immediately switch as USAA was the better company! He has now switched all of his insurance policies to USAA.
