Very thought provoking! "[bin Laden] repeatedly asserted that the only way to drive the U.S. from the Muslim world and defeat its satraps was by drawing Americans into a series of small but expensive wars that would ultimately bankrupt them..." Look at our economy. Look at the financial mess of our Federal government. The growth of the national debt over the last 10 years is almost exactly the amount of money we have spent in Iraq and Afghanistan. Much of the mess in the economy is traceable to our fear/revenge response to 9/11. It seems bin Laden may have been right. And now he does not need to send terrorists to us any more. We are destroying each other. This country is almost as deeply divided as it was in the mid 19th Century. The civil war we fight is the "civility" of democracy run amok.
