As a possible point of interest, I will give my personal position on the so-called deuterocanonical books. * I do not consider any to be canonical, but I consider there to be of some value, in some of them. * First Maccabees is the best history that we have of that period of time. * Second Maccabees has some value as history, but not as much as the First. * Third and Forth Maccabees are rightfully excluded from consideration. * The Book of Judith is an example of a nice devotional work, even if it is not accurate historically. * The Gospel of Thomas, exists in so-many versions that it can be considered to be no more than an interesting work of fiction. * The additions to the book of Daniel are interesting but cannot be considered to be canonical. * Tobit is interesting, but cannot be considered to be doctrinally accurate. NOTE: In my listing above, I have included some works that from a strict sense may not be considered to be deuterocanonical. In addition, I have not commented on every such book.

There has been some discussion of EGWs position on the deuterocanonical books. This discussion springs up from time to time, to include the present. However, in my opinion, it has never become a major discussion. In addition, I do not see an agreement on this subject as to what her position actually was on those books. I am aware that some see a similar connection between the writings of EGW and Paradise Lost. I do not see major agreement as to that being a source. I do not think it would be anything more than a point of interest if it should be decided to have been a source for some of her writings. I consider the major contributions that the 2022 book on EGW and the Historians has made to our understandings of the role and ministry of EGW to the SDA denomination is now available to the average member and is not restricted to scholars, include: * An understanding that much of EGWs writings were not based upon visions that she had received. * An understanding that EGW used editorial assistants that had a much greater role in the production of her writings than had previously been understood by the common SDA member. * A greater understanding of her writings having a basis in secular authors. * Publication of how denominational leaders on various levels responded, both pro and con, to the unfolding revelation of this material. As examples, I include in this Robert Olson, whom I knew very well, and Arthur White, whom I knew less well. NOTE, both have died.

Indeed, an excellent article. How many of you feel like you are living in the old story "Now"? In the 1980s we found some of our leaders in the government moving away from liberty of conscience, to showing preference for the religion of Evangelical Christianity; which resulted in a fair number of the leaders from the other party to start to show equal preference for the religion of secular humanism. This change continued for about 36 years before taking the next step of moving beyond preferential treatment, to Christian Nationalism. How long will it be before the others move to Secular Human Nationalism. Granted I'm not in politics; but with the formation of political parties, there are a few things that I've been wondering about. For example; for the judges, I've wondered about instead of having the one party in power just place in offices Judges that enforce their party views; How about requiring the candidates for judges to need to win 50% plus 1 of each of the major parties in office? I hate abortion, but believe that our job and the government's job need to take different sides. 2 Timothy 3 pictures how people would be in the last days. 2 Timothy 3:5 says: Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away There is the power of the state, but also the power of the Holy Spirit. The power of the principles of God's government. Granted it needs us to work it; reaching out to those who may be contemplating having abortions. As individuals and as organizations such as churches it is OUR job to reach out to this community to offer them options and our love and support. It is NOT our job to sit around on our behind as we turn to the power of the state to do what we are to do. The role of the state in some topics such as abortion is to decrease the risk of harm for those who either are out of our reach or who choose to not accept our suggestions (much less those with other health problems who become trampled under by these anti-abortion laws and politicians.) In Exodus 19:5-6 God gives us what he wants us to keep in mind just before giving the 10 commandments, then among the first steps in applying the 10 commandments in Exodus 21 we are told how if someone attacks a pregnant woman and she dies, the attacker would be held for murder; however, if a pregnant woman is attacked and the fetus is lost, the attacker would only be fined. The repel of Roe vs. Wade has placed many of us where we will be held collectively guilty before for murder for the victims of self or illegal abortion attempts. When it comes to abortion we should still follow the principle "Render unto Caesar what is Ceasar's [job] and render unto God what God [expects his people to do.]

While I took first semester Greek from him, I am sad that I did not take any other Bible class from him (The one I could have taken I took from George Rice in his last year before Dr. Davis came, Dr. Rice was also outstanding, From other students and faculty, Dr. Davis also fit in very well as a team member with the style of teaching that AUC was known for in the mid to late 1970s and early 1980s ) I appreciated the sermons I've heard, and once a friend leant me a VCR of a seminar he gave on Galatians which was outstanding. (Sadly, I only listened and returned them, and did not take the notes that I wish I took.) I am so sad to hear of his passing.
