    Stinsonmari's Thoughts

One of the most fundamental mistakes made by beginning students of the Biblical languages is to think that Strong and Young define the words used in the Bible. They do not. What they do, and thy do it well, it to tell us how a Biblical word had been translated in an early, English, translation of the Bible. They do not do such for later translations of the Bible. Biblical words are defined in what is called a lexicon. The Biblical words were words used in the common language of the time in which they were used in the Bible. As such they had common meanings that often extended beyond how they were translated in the Bible. Strong and Young do not give us those meanings. I can understand why Stinsonmarri does not seem to use a lexicon to understand the Biblical words. To use a lexicon, must have a minimal understanding of the original Biblical languages. Absent that, one cannot properly use a lexicon. Stinsonmarri has not demonstrated that she has that minimal understanding of the original Biblical languages. If she has such, I will welcome her sharing it in her posts. Such would be well worth her time.

    US Military Service

SDA Military Service: The following article reports on the experience of an SDA who served in the US military during the early 1940s. In the comment section, I have written a more up to date report on military service and the SDA Chruch. https://adventistreview.org/experiences/testimonies/our-boys-in-the-army/#comment-6478571785

    Wrong Evangelism

The following article is worthy of considerable thought. The main theme is that what some have made to be a central focus of our evangelism today is ineffective and does not produce results. I happen to agree with the idea that our evangelism today must differ from what may have been effective 100 years ago. I also think that it is of value to us today to understand our past history. So, from this perspective, I do believe that The Great Controversy has value to us today. If we think that mailing 1,000,000,000 copies of that book to people who have not requested such is a terrible waste of funds that could be much better spent in accomplishing the mission that God has given us today. https://atoday.org/the-wrong-way-to-reach-the-world-2/

    Dr John McDougall

One of my favorite doctors that spent his whole life trying to tell people how to get well by eating right has died. Dr John McDougall. He was not adventist but worked at one of our hospitals in Southern California. He had a tv show in the 80s I think when he first started to publicly discuss what he found out about diet and health. Loma linda used to still air his show on their lifestyle channel. He was never taught any of this in medical school but discovered it himself when treating patients in Hawaii where he practiced medicine. Last week when his weekly show didn’t air I wondered why? I just found out today that he died in his sleep on the 22 nd in his sleep. Probably a stroke. Very sad. The other prominent people promoting the plant diet are still alive and well: T. Colin Campbell at 90 and dr cauldwell essystyn at 88. McDougall had very bad genetics , a poor diet and almost died as a teenager with a massive stroke. The other 2 have had good genetics. They all collaborated on a film called forks over knives. I think it’s free on you tube.
