America's Prophet
Kevin H reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
America's Prophet: In the following article, Cliff Goldstein suggests that someone other than Ellen White is, America's Prophet. See: https://adventistreview.org/perspectives/columnists/americas-prophet/ In the distant past, I have often not favored Cliff Goldstein's published views. In more recent times, I have occasionally thought highly of his viewpoint. On this one, he has struck a home run. The lesson to me, I guess, is: We should never allow our preconceived bias to affect our evaluation of where a person is now. I found the following to be of special interest:1 point -
The Great Dechurching
phkrause reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
The Great Dechurching: is a book of about 240 pages that explores why many Christians in the United States are leaving organized religion. As such, it is not an Adventist book. However, it explores issues that are important to us as Adventists. The link below takes you to an Adventist review of that book. It is well worth reading. https://spectrummagazine.org/culture/the-great-dechurching-a-worthwhile-read-for-christians-of-any-label/ It may be purchased from Amazon for $15. The Old Testament Prophets: The New Exodus
phkrause reacted to news for a topic
If you were to read the Bible through from Isaiah to Malachi you would discover that the major theme running through the prophets is Judah’s exile to Babylon and subsequent return. If the pattern we have seen so far continues in the prophets, what language would the prophets use to describe the Exile? The language […] The post The Old Testament Prophets: The New Exodus appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog. View the full article1 point -
Adventist Publishing
Kevin H reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
Adventist Publishing: In the United States, SDA printed material was produced historically by either Pacific Press, the Review and Southern Publishing Association. In more recent times Southern Publishing has ceased to exist. The advantage to Church Administration has been a tighter control over what was printed for Adventist purposes. This has resulted in a reduction of "cutting-edge" material. In recent times, Avondale Press and Oak and Acorn. of the Pacific Union Conference, have begun publishing material that would probably not been published by the existing two SDA sources of material. Last Sunday, I placed an order with Amazon for two books related to Ellen White, and sold on Amazon. They were delivered to my home on Thursday, of the same week. I noted that the published was Oak and Acorn. But the actual printing had been done, as I understand it, by Amazon, and they were both printed on the same day that I ordered them. Yes, Amazon offers that service to everyone. No required inventory as actual sales result in printing individual books. The resultant cost is less than one would need to pay if it had been printed by an SDA publisher. Folks, times are changing. Do we as a denomination keep up?1 point -
Learning From the Pattern

I would encourage you to put the observations about Creation, the Flood, and the Exodus to the test. Look up the texts I have listed along the way. Then read the books of Genesis and Exodus carefully for yourself. Compare the stories of God’s three mighty acts. Can you see how the language is taken […] The post Learning From the Pattern appeared first on Jon Paulien's Blog. View the full article1 point -

Mental Health

Mental Health: The Voice of Prophecy had developed a series of meetings, to be held in connection with a local congregation which are designed to inform the community on issues of mental health to include resources available to people in need of such help. While I do not have an in=depth knowledge of this program, I appears to me to be of great value. The following links will further inform. https://nwadventists.com/news/2024/08/washington-churches-connect-communities-over-mental-health https://mindfitevent.com/index.php?pagename=mfit-2024-host https://www1.discoverycenters.com/mfit-2024-webinars/1 point -

The Story of America’s Motto: “In God We Trust”
phkrause reacted to Stan for a topic
“In God We Trust” – these four simple words have become deeply ingrained in American culture, appearing on currency, government buildings, and even in some state mottos. But where did this phrase come from, and how did it become so The post The Story of America’s Motto: “In God We Trust” appeared first on ReligiousLiberty.TV / Founders' First Freedom® - News and Updates on Religious Liberty and Freedom. Play Football, die younger

Oh yeah, I wasn't resenting the money, I was saying it probably tends to buy drugs and drink and parties and fast cars. That life expectancy of 55 is an average, and it only needs a few dying young to bring the average down.1 point -

Photo: The Hostages Families Forum via AP Israel Defense Forces said they recovered the bodies of six hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, including a U.S. citizen — Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, whose parents appealed for the hostages' release during the Democratic National Convention. After the operation, 101 hostages remain in Gaza, Axios' Barak Ravid reports. Five of the hostages were kidnapped by Hamas from the Nova music festival in southern Israel on Oct. 7. The sixth, Carmel Gat, was taken from the community of Be'eri. IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the hostages were murdered by Hamas guards "shortly before IDF forces reached them." President Biden said the bodies of the hostages were recovered from a tunnel under the city of Rafah in southern Gaza. Hersh Goldberg-Polin became the symbol of the American hostages held by Hamas. Goldberg-Polin was last seen in a video released by Hamas in April. When his parents spoke at the DNC, thousands in the audience chanted: "Bring them back!" Biden said in a statement last night that Goldberg-Polin's parents "have been relentless and irrepressible champions of their son and of all the hostages held in unconscionable conditions." "Make no mistake, Hamas leaders will pay for these crimes," Biden continued. "And we will keep working around the clock for a deal to secure the release of the remaining hostages." Vice President Harris said: "The threat Hamas poses to the people of Israel — and American citizens in Israel — must be eliminated and Hamas cannot control Gaza. The Palestinian people too have suffered under Hamas' rule for nearly two decades." Keep reading ... Biden statement. ... Harris statement.
