Who Are God's People
Kevin H reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
Who Are God's People is the question discussed in the Spring 2024 issue of Adventist Today. That issue may be accessed at: https://atoday.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/AT_Spring_24_Who-Are-Gods-People.pdf The following articles are included in the above issue: * Leon Seibold, The problem With Being the One True Church. * Rich Hannon, The Adventist Back Porch. This article addresses the issue of SDA members who give up on the SDA Church and its doctrines, but remain connected to it by various means. * Reinder Bruinsma, Will Few or Many Be Saved? ^ Raj Attiken, The Destiny of the Unevangelized. * Warren Trenchard, Seventh-day Adventists and the Remnant. * Matthew Korpman, Inspired Heathens? Ellen White and the Apocryphal Sibylline Oracles. * Olive Hemmings, The Call to Be In Christ." This is an issue that should challenge your thinking, if you are a long-time Adventist. It is well worth your time and effort to read the various articles.1 point -

The Power of Prophecy
Kevin H reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
The Power of Prophecy is the 1983 PhD Dissertation for Dr. Graybill's work at The Johns Hopkins University, with some minor updates and typo corrections. In short, it examines the role that Ellen White had in the U.S. religious life during her lifetime. I had low expectations for it when I purchased it. I expected it to be scholarly, somewhat dry, and probably tendentious. It is scholarly. On the other points I was very wrong. I have been fascinated by it, as well as instructed in areas of knowledge where I was little informed. I have come to value it in two major areas. * This book adds to my knowledge in a number of areas of SDA history. One example in the 3rd chapter which tells me much that I did not know about Edson and Willie White, who were sons of Ellen. * A major focus of the book is to compare and contrast Ellen White to other to the other female spiritual leaders of her time: Mary Baker Edy (Christian Science), Catherine Booth (Salvation Army), and Alma White (Pillar of Fire). This book does introduce issues related Ellen White's use of other sources in her published works. However, that issue is largely saved for a 275-page book: Visions & Revisions: A Textual History of 'Ellen G. White's Writings. See: Graybill, Ronald D. The Power of Prophecy: Ellen G. White and the Women Religious founders of the Nineteenth Century. Oalk & Acorn, 213 pages, 1983 & 2019. It may be purchased from Amazon for $15.1 point -

Christ On A Donkey

It was interesting reading this article. You come away with the fact that pretty much everyone has similar opinions on this. Even in SS we had much the same discussion on the matter. Some mentioned that he had to fulfill prophecy also! When you think about it Jesus came to serve not to be served, and that's according to his own words and in riding into Jerusalem he shows us the kind of person he was, not putting himself above others.1 point -
Who Are God's People

Yes, we have the ability to exercise choice. I did not state that due to the fact that I consider personal choice to be understood and therefore not needing to be stated. It is from this perspective that I believe that salvation is a choice. Each of us choses either to spend eternity with God, or not to do so.1 point -
God & Suicide
Kevin H reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
One does not know what is in the mind of a person at their death. All we know for certain is that the Holy Spirit is continuing to work for their salvation. The Biblical example is found at the Cross. Two criminals were at the point of their death. One responded to the HS, and will spend eternity with God. The other exercised his choice to refuse the offer and to cease to exist. God is good. The Holy Spirit works forever to bring us to salvation. It is only our free choice that keeps us from spending eternity with God.1 point -
