    I don't think your rant is coherent: an all-out war made Iraq worse, but will make Syria better? Or is it purely about America remaining the biggest aggressor in the world? As I think someone said above: best outcome for America is likely to withdraw and leave Russia to it. Reverse what Russia did with Afghanistan...

    We'll see. Given that Western interventions tend to cause more soldiers to be recruited as they are killed, the assumption that it's 'kill these few thousand soldiers and its all over' is wildly optimistic.
