It's a lot easier to lie than to remain celibate, especially when one's salary, medical insurance with eyeglass and dental benefits, sustentation, status, etc., are on the line.

Perhaps I should state the official SDA position on such issues: * All who come in peace, are welcome to worship in our congregations. * Marriage is only accepted within a male/female arrangement. * Homosexuals are asked to be celibate, if they wish to become members. * We require any homosexual clergy person to be celibate. * SDA clergy are not allowed to perform the marriage of a homosexual couple. * I am aware that as a rare exception a non-celibate person has been allowed to become a member. This would be both rare and a violation of the normative standards. * I am aware of SDA clergy who have been terminated from employment and clergy status for a violation of the above.

The actress, Lara Silva, gets into character and puts on an incredible performance. She nails all the gestures. Her facial expressions are just the beginning of the body language. She also displays a powerful woman which is a model of a what it means to be a woman of faith. When Peter confesses to her that he is in trouble, she demands to know where is his faith. His solution is to violate the Sabbath and she isn't having any of it. She scolds him for trying to fix everything himself instead of depending on God. She tells him the reason he is stuck and feels desperate is because he has not been looking to God for answers. The she says, "No more talking. Maybe God can get your attention now." BOOM! So many times it has taken some tragic event in my life for God to get my attention. I have been in Peter's place. And, in my case, I didn't need an "Eden" to tell me. I knew God wanted my attention.

Simon looked to self to resolve his problem while Eden looked to God. Simon went out to the sea alone to fish all night. Eden prayed and sought help from the community. God is a resource for His people. God also works through the family of faith to provide for His children. Eusebius cites Clement that Simon Peter watched his wife be taken to execution shortly before he was executed. Peter is said to have rejoiced that she was faithful until death and encouraged her by telling her to remember the Lord. We know that most of what we watch in The Chosen is added by its writers and is not directly from the Bible. The lessons being taught is what we look to as Biblical. In this episode, Eden's faith is contrast against Simon's self-sufficiency. In the end, we see God answered Eden's prayers.

Adventist Today and Spectrum are two independent publications that do not officially speak for the SDA Church. Each informs as to news that is not easily available, and each evaluates the SDA Church. Ferdinand Esico died suddenly at 62. He was the publishing director at the newly formed, West Central Philippine Union Conference. He had so many jobs in the church. I feel sorry for Mark. The OJ lawyers managed to make the trial about racism rather than murder. The lie that he told was that he had never used the "N" word. That was such an obvious lie. Every white person from that era has used the "N" word, almost always in a pejorative sense. Johnny Cochran warned the prosecution to not call Fuhrman to the stand; nevertheless, they did. I don't understand why Mark Fuhrman lied about using the "N" word. I guess the defense created an atmosphere in which he felt it "necessary" to lie. Had he just said, "Yes, I've used it many times," maybe the trial outcome would have been different.
