Moderators lazarus Posted April 13, 2007 Author Moderators Posted April 13, 2007 Gerry ... White people have always had different standards. In Black culture things are not as they are in White culture. I am not saying that one is holier than another ... they are just different. Different strokes and different standards for different folks. In the black community it is fine to use the N word. But it is also not OK for Whites. It just depends upon the color of your skin. Redwood you are so wrong it would take you a few weeks to ever be right again. Its not OK to use the N work among black people in general. I'm surpised you cannot see the difference between the black and whites using it. Surely you can see that, son! Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. jasd Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 >>I'm nappy-headed, and my son more than I...<< Does it count if your hair is red?<< It seems that it is only Media Matters and the most vociferous amongst us who have focused upon any perceived negatives regard a 'nappy head'. It is not myself. I, for a number of years, paid a $130 plus gratuity -- every other month to maintain my 'Afro'. It is the heavy-handed and hypocritical aspects of the matter that spritzs me. Dr. Shane Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 MTV2 "satire" puts black women on leashes Quote: In an episode of "Where My Dogs At?" a Snoop Dogg look-alike leads two leashed black women into a pet store, where they act like animals: walking on all fours, scratching themselves, and defecating on the floor. Snoop orders one of the women to "hand me my latte" and later dons a plastic glove to clean up their mess. Media watchgroups say the episode relies on racial stereotypes and derogatory images of women for laughs; also, it first aired at 12:30 p.m. on a Saturday, which critics say is a prime time for young viewers. Immediately, MTV began clanging the satire bell to save face, and pointed to Snoop Dogg's 2003 appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards when he led two collared -- very real and very human -- women by a leash. "We certainly do not condone Snoop's actions and the goal was to take aim at that incident for its insensitivity and outrageousness," MTV2 spokesman Jeff Castaneda told the Associated Press. "Even one of the dogs, a main character on the show, states, 'I find that degrading and I am a dog.'" Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

CyberGuy Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I saw the writing on the wall when half of the major supporters of his show withdrew their ads. I knew it was a matter of time before Imus was fired. I do not agree with the firing. He made a mistake and did say he was very sorry for what he said. If you listen to the context his associate call the women hos first then Imus with a came back with that "nappy headed hos" Comment. It was an impulsive statement that if his associate had not made the first reference to hos Imus most likely never would have either. How many of these shock jocks on radio get into trouble by saying some sort of non PC statement against a group that gets them into hot water. This will put a cold towel over free speech everywhere. Look at what happend to the Dixie Chicks over their statement at a concert in Europe that they were Texans but they wer ashamed of George Bush. People withdrew their support and for a while many stations in the mid west stopped playing their music and that member of the Dixie chicks ever got death threats. Now there is even a movie about that. That hurt their careets badly but they are still playing. THe Red Cross even gave back a 1 million dollar donation the dixie chicks made to them. Stupid reaction as well. Quote Riverside CA
Parade Orange Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 On the eve of the WAR- US and United Nations are about to launch an offensive attack on Iraq. The Dixie Chicks were having to give a Yahoo scratch my belly concert in merry ol England(who was sending troops with US also). For the Dixie Chix it was not a time for knee slapping giddy up fun but of anxiousness. They knew the people there wanted to have fun and paid hard earned Euros to see them sing. Natalie felt she had to say something. She didnt want to act like everything is hunkie dory and IGNORE that US and UK lives and families were about to be destroyed in the fight. So she used her corncob sense of humour mingled with her distrust of DUBYA(I second the motion) to say a little somethin about it. That was it! That what it all was. Expressing her doubt and outrage imperfectly. Many americans dont like free speach if u disagree with them and this administration has said "if u not with us your against america" huh????????????? wow a Prez that will defend the constitution? what everrrr! dont get me started on him.. slackjawed ill conceived bone head small dog who reminds me of a redneck simpleton with money and a Harvard degree in coke sniffing and booze. Amelia Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Why did the jocks make that remark to begin with? Was it because the team lost? CyberGuy Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 While I do not agree with what Natalie said and her timing I do not agree with boycott of their songs. I happned to like their songs and wanted to hear them dispite their bad taste remarks in Great Britain. I found it offensive even more so that people would tell them to "Shut up and sing or die" Intimidation in ANY FORM just gets my ire up. It makes me want to resist and fight the people doing that even more. Quote Riverside CA
CyberGuy Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 You know why that remark was made was never explained. All the news cast did was play the remark. No where did I see why or the context of why they made the remarks they did. Quote Riverside CA
