Woody Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 How tragic. What a loss of life. How could this happen? How could a human kill so many others? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Administrators Gail Posted April 16, 2007 Administrators Posted April 16, 2007 Anyone want to start a gun debate? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Woody Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 Yes ... That was an earlier report which said there was 22 dead. It seems the death toll is 32 now according to FOX. And FOX is usually more accurate and faster than CNN. They say it was an Asian in his 20s looking for his girlfriend. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Halfstep Denise Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Gail, Go to www.cnn.com or any major news agency, NBC, CBS, or ABC to get information. Halfstep Denise CNN is covering the story right now on their tv station. Quote "If you're all God has, is God in trouble? -- Dr. Frederick K.C. Price

bevin Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Quote: Anyone want to start a gun debate? Yes - if more people were armed all the time, they could have defended themselves... We should go back to the Middle Ages tradition of everyone, including kids, carrying some kind of weapon - large knife or sword - and not being afraid to use them... Either that, or we should make them much harder to get. We seem to have reached the optimal point for maximising the death rate. /Bevin Quote
Administrators Gail Posted April 16, 2007 Administrators Posted April 16, 2007 No, thankfully! It would rend my heart if my only girlie would have died so far from home. I can only feel empathy for those parents of the deceased But she IS studying the psychology of criminals. She was talking to me about it yesterday and it sounds like a fascinating science, macabre as it seems. She was not alonein the acts, but I was thinking how much damage this girl with so much rage would have done had she had access to a gun. Woody Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 Can you imagine the impact on society if we allowed or encouraged guns for the mentally ill? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Halfstep Denise Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Apparently we are allowing guns for the mentally ill! I know that there is a criminal background check for anyone purchasing a gun in California, but I don't think the requirements include a psychological test! The latest report on NBC is that the shooter took his own life. People who are in their right minds don't do things like this! Come quickly, Lord Jesus! Woody Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 Yeah ... I was actually responding to the post by Bevin which was encouraging more people to have guns. I don't think we should encourage the mentally ill like this guy to have guns in the name of the more the better. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dr. Shane Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Guns are illegal in El Salvador but all the gang members have them. So the law abiding citizens are just sitting ducks. Woody Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 Shirley ... there can be some kind of balance. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 For those of you who are really interested ... the students are posting their comments and observations of the massacre on MYSPACE. I don't know if this had any impact on the Asian shooter ... but the governor of Virginia is in Asia at this very time. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Moderators lazarus Posted April 16, 2007 Moderators Posted April 16, 2007 This is really sad, I pray for these families. I hope this will be the beginning of a contructive debate on the role of guns in this society. Its really time to rethink things. Dr. Shane Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Like most issues, I hold a moderate position on gun control. I believe gun ownership is protected under the Constitution but do not see requiring a license which is available after the completion of a class or series of classes as abridging that right. I see a problem with trying to stop mentally ill people from owning guns. A person may have a bi-polar disorder, which is hard to correctly diagnose. I can't see forbidding such a person from owning a gun, unless they commit a violent or drug-related crime. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Woody Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 Shane ... I am with you on that. A moderate position needs to be made. But it will not stop the killings. Anyone who kills is mentally ill. But like you say ... unless they have a violent history ... we can't very well prevent them from owning a gun unless their condition clearly identifies a problem. Perhaps we should require some level of medical clearance but it would not stop all those with problems. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators lazarus Posted April 16, 2007 Moderators Posted April 16, 2007 . Anyone who kills is mentally ill. Sorry don't buy that. There are alot of people who kill who are sane, smart, and under most other circumstances law abiding. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Amelia Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Final death toll is 33 and 26 injured. Gunman is still not identified and it is not known if he was a student. Some of the injured students had jumped from 4th floor windows of the building where most of the students were killed. There is anger that the whole campus was not notified and locked down after the first shooting at the dormitory. Police say that there was no reason to believe the first shooting was more than a domestic situation. Amelia Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Well since the police/detectives know noting about the gunman and in fact cannot at this time connect the person who did the shooting at the science building with the shooting at the dormitory, all is speculation and rumor.
