Woody Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 On Fox News it was reported today that there will be a new cable hip hop channel. The ones responsible for this were interviewed. They indicated that on their channel the "artists" would have the freedom to use the 'N' and 'H' word. However they did indicate that it would be "balanced" with family values. It's a matter of seeing a niche market and filling it, just like the Discovery channel, Home and Garden TV, fishing and sports channels. It's not to my taste, but I'm not sure it's any worse than a wrestling channel, and certainly healthier and better than a porn channel. Like everything it's up to how the user users it and chooses it... and it's better if we look to our own viewing habits than judging those of others. Quote Truth is important

Aimed at the 18-34 demographic that advertisers covet, the Real Hip-Hop Network is expected to launch this year with a major cable operator through a deal signed with OlympuSat, which packages independent networks for distribution. RHN is the brainchild of hip-hop concert promoter Atonn Muhammad, president and CEO of SSM Media Group. He believes that MTV and BET are overlooking much of what constitutes the hip-hop world. "America only gets to see a fraction of what true hip-hop represents," he said. "We want to offer a grittier, more real representation." RHN also represents a more Madison Avenue-friendly approach to hip-hop-themed entertainment than two other recently announced premium cable ventures featuring uncensored music videos: Hype, a joint venture between Bad Boy Entertainment and Playboy, and 1AM, a collaboration between Universal Music Group along with adult programming giant Vivid Video, Shady Records and Endeavor. So although they say they want to represent the more real and grittier side of Hip Hop, the article makes me wonder if there's gonna be a lot of benjamins to be made by the corporate Hip Hop companies i.e. Baby Phat, G-Unit and Rocawear etc. Wait a second, of course there will be! They even had a big op ed article in last Sunday's Houston Chronicle about hip hop being dead. I should of read it, but got bored with the whole idea and threw it out. Myself, I never heard a hip hop song that I ever wanted to hear a second time until I heard some of Toby Mac's music. Yet for some people that have gotten obsessed with or addicted to secular hip hop, it is probably the best policy to stay away from it altogether. I like almost every kind of music except rap. The kids where I work listen to it-- really gangsta rap-- and record their own stuff. Some are pretty talented. You can guess the kind of stuff they record. All about "b"s and "ho"s & shooting pigs and other gangsters. I have to take it away from them. None of it has any good influence on them. Maybe I should have them listen to some stuff that has Christian lyrics. What would anyone suggest? After I became a believer, I could hardly stand being around rock music. Thus I agree with Doug Batchelor, there is no way to blend the Lord with the devil's music.
