bonnie Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Is this the sum total of what she has said on this subject or is it an attack on EW? One done to make her look foolish, harsh and fanatical?? Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 18, 2008 Author Members Posted January 18, 2008 I don't think Redwood was trying to make EGW look foolish.....he was just being Redwood... otoh, comments like that aren't helpful to a person in crisis. What impression would be left for those reading? This EW is certainly one I would have no desire to get to know better. In fact any denomination that could have the slightest degree of respect for anything she had to say would have me running for the door. It is routinely done.EW thrown in where EW is not topic of discussion. Partial quotes and statements. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. carolaa Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Well, I thought it was hilarous! I think most people could figure out that you are obviously taking those quotes out of context for the purpose of humor. And I was quite amused. Quote
carolaa Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 No, no, no. If you will read the previous posts, you will find that I addressed a similar question and was informed that suicide is the "deliberate" act of killing oneself. Quote

I think most people could figure out that you are obviously taking those quotes out of context for the purpose of humor. And I was quite amused. Suicide is never humorous, either as a threat or discussion. Do you honestly think that each and every time this is done it is done in a humorous tone? Humor for the most part seems to be directed at EW. She is not to be revered but how about straight out with comments instead of those meant to elicit derision. One has to go a stretch to find humor in a topic that means depression, despair, and total desperation to many. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Well, I can see your point, but I certainly wasn't thinking of those quotes in relation to suicide. I took it more as an aside since they didn't have anything to do with suicide. My family has faced a suicide in the last year, so I understand it is not a funny thing. Hopefully, you can understand that the quotes had nothing to do with suicide and were not intended to offend but to provide a humorous aside. Quote

cricket Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Out of curiosity, is there anyone in this thread who's speaking from a "been there, done that" point of view? I'm often astounded at the audacity of some who presume to speak as if they were in the know--having never experienced the life situations that can cause a man toward suicidal tendencies. Quote

You may not have been thinking in terms of those quotes and suicide, I believe that Redwood was. It is a trademark of his to insert EW in the most unfavorable light possible whenever possible. HIs view is his to have, however for someone that wants tolerance and respect shown at every turn for every occasion it would be nice to see this man follow his own advice and stated convictions Done to show how off base EW is with out taking a direct stand. It is done throughout the forum, altho not usually done concerning such a critical topic. A humorous aside showing only those few quotes taking EW out of context is not humorous. Thankfully in our family we have not. However it has been extremely close to us and the ramifications many years later are still felt. Many tears still shed over that missing person by the family. It is as close as I ever care to get and never do I want to see anything humorous in anyway. Nor would I think it helpful to someone struggling to throw out of context EW quotes around for aside humor Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Just wanted to know who's speaking from the voice of experience, and who's just "best guessing" how one so afflicted really thought/felt about his relationship with God. Quote

bonnie Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I am not sure that for those of us that have not been there we can even begin to comprehend. I just know that I have no idea what it is like to be that desperate and hopeless. But humor with this topic makes me sick. Using EW,whatever your thoughts on her are out of context just a little sicker. Nothing like a little religious persuasion to finish the beating. You can be close to it, it can happen in your family, but still they do not know. Unless one survives the attempt and trys to educate. Still not sure anyone can truly understand unless they have been there, done that. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. bonnie Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 yeah, real funny... I have buried my sisters, parents,a 21 year old nephew we raised with our sons. I have only attended one of a suicide, No funeral has made me want to run, run anywhere away from the intense, raw grief of those left behind. It was almost more than you could take even if you were not directly involved. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. cricket Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I know this is a very serious topic, but I had to chuckle because your question sounds like you are wanting to talk to someone who has committed suicide. Quite the contrary. I want to QUIT hearing people's assumptions about what a person faced with the thought of suicide is going through, how they're feeling, et cetera; unless, of course that person actually has first-hand knowledge of what those feelings and thoughts were like. So far, I've seen only two participating in this thread who have actually had to deal first-hand with those emotions. Rudywoofs, who started this thread with the heart-felt need to ask, "[edited in a moment]"; and myself, who has been reading intently trying to make heads and tails of my own experiences all the while having to parse through the condemnatory and judgmental posts of those who have no personal experience of same such feelings. I greatly appreciate the posts of those who have lost loved ones due to suicide, who approach the thread with a solemn attitude and from the position of wanting to learn more. Quote
