There's US politics between the Elephants and the Jackasses . There's the target practice in the Aussie threads . (BTW, how come there're no skirmishes going on in Canada that we could talk about ad nauseum?) And then there's the miscellaneous topics like Humor, Inspiration, dAb's intellectual offerings (like the word of the day), with a couple of Prayer requests that get all but ignored. Quote

BUT .... if anything is said about someone with the first initial of 'J' ... and an entire thread gets closed ... both the good and the bad. If they can't start by "moderating" the attacks when they happen ... guess what ... The entire thread gets shut down. I would rather see some comments get edited than to have them shut down ALL comments made. Just my two cents worth. If the thread does get whacked away where no one can read it, that is wrong (usually). If a thread gets locked, maybe try and start a new thread on the subject, but focused from a different perspective.. Personally, I don't think it's right for a Mod to make a nuisance of him/herself by over-contributing remarks, even if they are right. That's not a Mod's job. If they have so much to say in the topics they are monitoring, perhaps that person is not the right person to be moderating those topics. However whether this is an attention seeking delivery or a honest strong conviction it is still preferable as it is right out front and in your face. The pastor we had years ago was one of the most fiery fire and brimstone pastor's I have heard to date. Attendence was at a all time high, even with those that grumbled when the sermon pinched their pet "sins". Children's church was not an option at that time but was not needed. He also had the undivided attention of young children. My older boys were 8,9,10 and knew when leaving what the sermon had been about. Not one dozed off during his sermons My husband was brought into the church by the same type of no nonesense,this is what the bible says. Not much of a disagreement if women voice their complaints on men,but it gets a bit different when a man points to men. Besides isn't there something biblical about turning the other cheek instead of responding in kind? I agree, it would definitely be ideal to have perfect, impartial moderators with the wisdom of Solomon who took no part in the discussion. I'm positive that if you can PM the names and e-mail addresses of some of those to Stan he'll start using them immediately. In the mean time, people do the hard and thankless work of moderation here because they enjoy being here, and part of enjoying being here is participating in the discussion. I used to be the moderator of Town Hall, but resigned because I was seen as being biased in particular ways. The job sucks, and the mods get all manner of abuse and no thanks or acknowledgement. This straw man gets trotted out every time this topic gets discussed. But anyone who has actually run a successful organization of any kind can tell you it doesn't take any such sort of super human. Few rules, well considered, impartially enforced. The rules don't have to be perfect, either, just consistently enforced. Of course that would change the types of exchanges, and eventually, the membership of the forum. What you have here is a certain type of approved predation.
