Personally, I was looking at the issue from a pragmatic, analytic perspective. A particular target market is reached by DB's style of presentation, and by traditional SDA evangelism. That target market occupies a demographic niche, in terms of education and other areas. Such market analysis is helpful in identifying ways to reach various sectors. That particular sector is being reached. Other sectors are not being reached. One word of caution I would give: Don't try a 'one size fits all' approach. Neither DB, nor anyone else, has THE way to reach EVERYONE. 'Different strokes for different folks,' as someone commented above. Market analysis should not be considered a put-down, simply a recognition of important facts and trends. Dave Quote

Maybe that's just a set of sensitivities and something I should get over, but it seems it's one shared by a lot of people. Given that, I felt perhaps your response could be a little more conciliatory and try to promote understanding that you didn't intend to portray that group in a negative light, just to be descriptive. They are in many cases terrific people. I also work with those who are educated. They are great people as well. I enjoy working with both. But as I recall, the original issue had to do with Doug Batchelor. His study on hell was presented via video clip, and opened up for comment. I commented on it. It may reach a certain audience, but does have some shortcomings, and explanations which might not be adequate for some who have carefully studied the Word. Dave Quote

I don't care if Pastor Doug is thought of as the "blue collar" pastor or the "lazy man's" pastor. He is good for someone and that's all that counts. Those of you out there who hold yourself to a higher intellengce and caste of people, keep that to yourself and stop belittling others. Which remnds me of the story of the two saints, walking out of an auditorium after listening to an evangelist give a spirited sermon on the love of Jesus and His soon return. Many of the people who have been used by God in wonderful ways were not "educated" in the ways of the world. How about the 12 disciples, some of the leaders in the Reformation, most of the founders of the SDA church, Wm. Miller and etc. I beleive there are important reasons why God can and does use so called "uneducated" people. Maybe they dont have to "unlearn" much of what the world teaches! Maybe they are not to proud to learn from Him. Many college educated people do enjoy listening to Doug Batchelor. And if anyone liked and felt they were edified by Doug Batchelor's presentations then it seemed by implication they were being lumped into the blue-collar, uneducated, thick-as-two-short-planks, group of people.
