Moderators John317 Posted June 23, 2008 Moderators Posted June 23, 2008 Below is information that all Americans ought to consider as they go to the polls this November to choose our next president: Obama’s International Socialist Connections AIM COLUMN | BY CLIFF KINCAID | FEBRUARY 14, 2008 http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obamas-international-socialist-connections/ The socialist connections of Obama and the Democratic Party have certainly not been featured in the Washington Post columns of Harold Meyerson, who happens not only to be a member but a vice-chair of the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America). Campaign workers for Senator and presidential candidate Barack Obama are under fire for displaying a flag featuring communist hero Che Guevara. But Obama has his own controversial socialist connections. He is, in fact, an associate of a Chicago-based Marxist group with access to millions of labor union dollars and connections to expert political consultants, including a convicted swindler. Obama's socialist backing goes back at least to 1996, when he received the endorsement of the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) for an Illinois state senate seat. Later, the Chicago DSA newsletter reported that Obama, as a state senator, showed up to eulogize Saul Mendelson, one of the "champions" of "Chicago's democratic left" and a long-time socialist activist. Obama's stint as a "community organizer" in Chicago has gotten some attention, but his relationship with the DSA socialists, who groomed and backed him, has been generally ignored. Blogger Steve Bartin, who has been following Obama's career and involvement with the Chicago socialists, has uncovered a fascinating video showing Obama campaigning for openly socialist Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Interestingly, Sanders, who won his seat in 2006, called Obama "one of the great leaders of the United States Senate," even though Obama had only been in the body for about two years. In 2007, the National Journal said that Obama had established himself as "the most liberal Senator." More liberal than Sanders? That is quite a feat. Does this make Obama a socialist, too? DSA describes itself as the largest socialist organization in the United States and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. The Socialist International (SI) has what is called "consultative status" with the United Nations. In other words, it works hand-in-glove with the world body. The international connection is important and significant because an Obama bill, "The Global Poverty Act," has just been rushed through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, with the assistance of Democratic Senator Joe Biden, the chairman, and Republican Senator Richard Lugar. The legislation (S.2433) commits the U.S. to spending hundreds of billions of dollars more in foreign aid on the rest of the world, in order to comply with the "Millennium Goals" established by the United Nations. Conservative members of the committee were largely caught off-guard by the move to pass the Obama bill but are putting a "hold" on it, in order to try to prevent the legislation, which also quickly passed the House, from being quickly brought up for a full Senate vote. But observers think that Senate Democrats may try to pass it quickly anyway, in order to give Obama a precious legislative "victory" that he could run on..... Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Moderators John317 Posted June 23, 2008 Author Moderators Posted June 23, 2008 The point is that it is far to the Left. I know socialists, Bravus. I used to be a Marxist and a member of the Socialist Workers Party. Check out this website about my old party: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Workers_Party_(United_States) And this site by the SWP--http://www.themilitant.com/index.shtml Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Moderators Bravus Posted June 23, 2008 Moderators Posted June 23, 2008 True, I did forget who I was speaking to. Still, far to the left ain't so bad either, except for those far to the right, and there's little chance they were planning to vote for Obama anyway. Quote Truth is important
Moderators John317 Posted June 23, 2008 Author Moderators Posted June 23, 2008 I think when it is all said and done that if Americans realize exactly how Left Obama is, he won't be elected. That is why he has been trying to move to the middle. There is no way he can be elected as a leftist candidate. He would fail in the same way that George McGovern did in 1972. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted June 23, 2008 Author Moderators Posted June 23, 2008 Americans want more freedom, not less. They want less government, not more. On the other hand, Socialists want more taxes and more government involvement. They oppose private enterprise and are generally not in favor of big business or capitalism, etc. (Obama wants to increase the Capital Gains Tax, doesn't he?) So Obama's true views and positions-- despite his claims-- are really not shared by most Americans. The American electorate is generally middle of the road on the right, not on the left. Remember that in the elections since 1980, all of the elections have been won by middle of the road candidates, including Clinton-- who had to move to the right in order to win. He won by taking over Republican positions and making them his own. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Woody Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Selecting someone so leftist as Obama .... would be a grave mistake. I am sure that Americans will wake up to this. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dr. Shane Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I think we need to move to some kind of universal healthcare. Healthcare costs are increasing so dramatically that corporate America simply cannot continue to pay the tab and remain competitive in the world market. General Motors spends more on healthcare than it does on steel. This is an area where Obama could move to the middle. If he gets rid of the anti-corporation talk and shows that universal healthcare is actually corporate friendly he can pick up votes. Corporations large and small are employ the majority of Americans. They are what makes the economic wheels turn and Obama would do well to recognize that. Fighting poverty on a global level is also good. President Bush has been doing this. President Bush's approval rating in Africa is above 50% - higher than it is here at home. Poor people have reason to immigrate illegally, join terrorist groups, grow and distribute drugs and vote in communist leaders. Fighting poverty fights all this issues as well. Fighting poverty on a global scale is to be commended. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

Dr. Shane Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Healthcare, education and retirement plans are commodities that people can buy. When government gets involved they force their citizens to pay for these commodities regardless if the citizens wants them or uses them. Why, for example, would Bill Gates want to pay into Social Security? I am not saying that I personally am against government involvement in these things. I am simply pointing out that we give up some of our freedom in exchange when we allow the government to provide these services. Is it worth it??? Many Americans think so. Fausto Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I think there are both advantages and disadvantages to this. That does not mean he has socialist connections, have you ever lived in a socialist state? The real worry would be when they start telling you which day to attend church, then you know you on to something! And ever closer to the second coming! Quote

jasd Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 An abstract view: >>from one extreme to another...<< Ahh, the concurrence that, as implied in the thread, Socialism is extreme.... The Left is bereft and the Right is, well, right But that is not entirely true, is it? Extreme socialism is anything but bereft: it is a simple remove of a coupla 'theories' here and there from the hideousness of its half-sister, Stalinist Bolshevism. But hey! wait a minute, wasn't Stalin our very own ally? that same ally whose judges sat next to those of the USofA and Britain at the ex post facto Nuremberg Trials? Oh my! --Pogo Quote

OK, well, maybe I wasn't very clear. I had asked why we are allowing government to take our freedoms away if we want more freedom and less government. By freedoms, I wasn't thinking about commodities such as listed above. I was thinking about privacy issues mostly, and all the security stuff at airports, etc. I know that during time war, freedoms are always restricted more. It just seems like we're putting up with more than is really necessary - for a country that wants less government and more freedom. Quote

Moderators Bravus Posted June 25, 2008 Moderators Posted June 25, 2008 You have to remember, carol, that when Republicans talk about 'less government', they mean less government provision of services like health care, welfare and education, but more government intrusion in things like reproduction and relationships. Fausto Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Whether one is faced with the leftist or the rightist factions one is being faced by the dicletic thinking of the secret societies, either one does not provide the ideal solution! Order from Chaos! Yet, americans do not have a third choice! Only spiritually! I say enjoy the freedom you have as you have never lacked anything! America has been immenselly blessed! I have lived in Mozambique during Samora Machel's reign, just for instance potatoes was a luxury item aqcuired only during Christmas! Amongst many other lacking commodities! Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted June 25, 2008 Moderators Posted June 25, 2008 Agreed - but if America's enjoyment of its blessings *causes* those kinds of hardships for those elsewhere in the world? What then? Quote Truth is important
