carolaa Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 The advantage of no-fault divorce is that other people don't have to dig into the intimate details of a person's marriage. Ellen White said people like to get into divorce and remarriage situations and rip them apart, then they leave the mess and heartache they have created and go on with their lives with no more thought to the pain and ruin they have caused. Too often that's how it is in the church. It becomes a he-said, she-said and people take sides and it can split the church. Even if one party is guilty, why would the other party want such details made public except for revenge or to maintain their status in the church? Either way, it's sick and sinful. Far better to have no-fault. If the people ask for help, that's one thing; otherwise, pray and trust that they are doing their best and give them support without condemnation. Good grief, it's no wonder so many divorced people never come back to church. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 The solution to that is simply to make divorce proceedings private. There is no reason divorce proceedings need to be made public. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Dr. Shane Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Sealed. Divorce is bad for society. That is easy to establish. So society is justified and requiring people that want a divorce to provide grounds for such a divorce. However there is no reason those grounds for divorce have to be a matter of public record. Just like many adoptions are not a matter of public record. A couple could file for divorce, go before a judge, show the grounds for the divorce, the judge could make the appropriate ruling and everything gets sealed. However since Jesus predicted that in the last days people would be marrying and giving in marriage, the no-fault divorce laws seem to fit into prophecy quite well. I don't see them changing. carolaa Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Are you saying that the church would accept a judge's decision, then? Quote
Dr. Shane Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I am not talking about the church. I am talking about the civil government. The church does not issue divorces. As far as getting remarried in the church after a divorce, the Church Manual still states that the one seeking to be remarried still needs Biblical grounds although not all pastors enforce that. Caribbeanized Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 While I get what you are trying to say; and all this paranoia about Jesuits in the garden is hilarious to me; I think we always need to be watchful and ready and mindful of the times in which we live. Quote trinidadsdagay.blogspot.com
