Moderators John317 Posted March 19, 2009 Moderators Posted March 19, 2009 OK, thanks for the reminder. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Members phkrause Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 Seems fair to me Stan. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Doug Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Thanks Stan. I like Theology but I agree keep general fun discussion here. Quote
Woody Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I agree with this Stan. Let me point out what we don't need though. I start hundreds or thousands of threads. There have been rare times when I might have posted in the wrong place. NOT on purpose mind you ... but rather just to being sidetracked and being OLD. When this happens ... what we could use is a kind reminder via a PM per the rules established on this forum. What we don't need is for individual members who have an axe to grind ... to publically harass the one who makes a mistake. That is the issue. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Bravus Posted March 19, 2009 Moderators Posted March 19, 2009 Or, you know, a gentle reminder to be seen as public harassment because the person who posts it forgets, one time, to go to PM. Quote Truth is important
Outta Here Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 It's not entirely unheard of for an administrator/moderator to move a thread to the appropriate section--with or without a PM. Similar to the process of cleaning house: putting things (like shoes or keys or whatever else gets set down when you walk through the door) in their proper place. Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 Sometimes it's difficult to know *what* category to place a topic. It could be thought of as *theological* by some....or *political* by some. Or *miscellaneous* by others... That's why I hate to start threads at C/A here anymore. I don't want to get chewed out for doing something wrong that I had no intention of doing wrong. To tell you the truth, I find it scary to post at C/A nowadays except in silly topics like games. This isn't a fun or a very "learning" place to be anymore, from my perspective. It stresses me out to be here most of the time....it didn't used to be that way. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Members phkrause Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 I only start threads in Humor, its the easiest one to figure out. hahaha pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Bravus Posted March 19, 2009 Moderators Posted March 19, 2009 Pam, it's really not meant to be that way. The goal is just to keep Town Hall from becoming over-full of political topics - it's the general commons for general discussions. There are a lot of political topics posted, and many of them end up in quite heated discussion, and it's just not what we want visitors' first exposure to this place to be like. But for those politics buffs, the Politics forum is always available and always humming. Easy rule of thumb: if the topic has the name of an elected or appointed government official in it, it's political or likely to become so. Bottom line is, it's a tiny social faux pas like accidentally burping in a conversation, not a deadly sin, and is easily remedied. So post away, please! Quote Truth is important
Neil D Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 If you have a question and are not sure where it should go, by all means, post it in townhall...I doubt anyone will "chew you out" as we all have posted in the wrong places before.... Some, like myself, will remind some posters that the post might be better served in another forum...but "chew someone out", nah, not in my nature to chew someone out....unless they are being just outright rude, or unfair... .... some of the more paranoid people that we have here are fun to mess with, but in general...nah.... It stresses me out to be here most of the time....it didn't used to be that way. The persons in charge (administrators, monitors, etc) have been very kind to me, probably much kinder than I was aware of before Stan put the reminders up as I cannot remember reading the rules for townhall. I just figured if I made effort to behave with an accepted (I guess in my own eyes) Christian behavior it would all come out as interesting to read if not heartily approved by others. Because of the fact that much of my lifestyle centers around what I think God expects of me, it remains problematic if I can enter into conversations without becoming theological in my posts. Therefore that particular rule probably will restrict me to other forums which are not so widely frequented. Since it is a right of all to control that which they have authority over, while it is disappointing to be excluded, probably no more disappointing than for the girl who wanted to join the boy scouts. Can't remember how that turned out but I believe it went to court. As a last theological note to an enjoyable stay on townhall, here's the reason I'm not going to court about this. "If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men." Romans 12:18 NASB God Bless! P.S. BTW Rudy, I have never read one of your posts with which I have been disappointed. And I always looked forward to reading your posts. Quote Lift Jesus up!!

GreatLakesGramma Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 LifeHisCost, Becoming theological in discussions is not the issue in question. If the topic is meant solely to discuss a theological issue, that is the kind that should be in the theology forum. But bringing your personal convictions, experiences, Bible quotes, etc. into a discussion of other issues is perfectly legitimate, and is not a violation of this guideline. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Second what? Are you guys saying that even in discussions of other issues, we cannot quote the Bible? Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Amelia Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Red, Catherine said it correctly the first time. Please don't try to make more of Stan's statement than it is. A theological or politcal topic has it's own forum. Quoting the bible or Ellen or anyone else is very acceptable and welcome. I have always enjoyed the way LHC can find biblical text to enhance a conversation and will never tell him not to do that in any forum. Moderators Bravus Posted March 21, 2009 Moderators Posted March 21, 2009 I suspect part of the problem here is that we don't really understand what 'theology' means. It's the academic study of religious matters. There are threads for that, but that's not the same as just having a life and a conversation style infused with religious themes. LHC's style continues to be welcome in Town Hall, as does any other use of the Bible, name(s) of God and so on. If people want to stickle vexatiously for the letter rather than the spirit, of course, they'll always find ways to do so. Quote Truth is important
Woody Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Quote: If people want to stickle vexatiously for the letter rather than the spirit, of course, they'll always find ways to do so Yes. I think this is exactly what Rudywoofs was concerned about. She indicated that she was afraid to post for fear that she might post in the wrong place. I just got chastised for posting in error a post in the wrong place. So, we do need mercy. I think if it is a repititive problem that is different ... but for long time residents who just make an unusual error ... I don't think that one needs to be brought to task.
