Neil D Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 What are the literal and spiritual implications of the phrase "get lost"?....'cuse me, I misquoted...The phrase is "Get lost, Neil"....What are the literal and spiritual implications of that? It's not like there's a lot in the way of political nor theological terms involved here...I mean, how does the spiritual implications of 'getting lost' entail theological concepts? Is there a political wilderness in which there is no one available to depend upon?I am sure it's not like you're all alone in a mean world where big creatures devoure you...God made us to be friends and people are inherantly designed for friendships, but to tell one to "get lost" is to condemn one to that not so friendly world....right? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Woody Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Whatever Neil. I am through with you. From now on I am just going to direct your abusive post to the moderator ... and let them deal with you. But if you continue on my trail ... I will have to get more insistant that you do get lost. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
GreatLakesGramma Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Redwood, the way you quoted Stan right after I posted what I did, made me think you must mean that I was wrong. Otherwise, it seemed kind of pointless. So I was asking for clarification. Nothing whatsoever to do with anyone's reputation, Neil. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. LifeHiscost Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 to tell one to "get lost" is to condemn one to that not so friendly world....right? I hadn't thought of it that way, Neil, until you mentioned it. I use to use that in my verbosity against others when I ran out of good logic to put them in their place, never thinking that, if taken seriously, some of those individuals might have been injured beyond repair without anyone really knowing where the downward spiral started. Gives one pause when he/she thinks he/she has nothing to bring to God in repentance. "And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell."James 3:6 NASB "...thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked" Which reminds me, there was some laughter in our midweek support group that could have been taken more than one way. I think I may have someone I need to talk to this next Wednesday. Regards! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 ...biblical text to enhance a conversation and will never tell...not to do that in any forum. Thank you, Amelia, and others who have helped to clarify in my own mind, perhaps I could say, misapprehensions. There are so many places in present day society where there is actual hostility or animosity toward the Word, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between actual and perceived threats and just the reality of less than perfect human beings. Another good reason to ask for the Spirit of Christ. "Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person" 1 Corinthians 13:7 AMP Blessings! LifeHiscost Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 What about... "Get bent"? Care to clarify? Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Key Guy Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Ha! Sure. After I posted, I thought it may be misread. What I meant was... Is 'Get Bent' as bad as 'Get Lost'? Does it have the same meaning? I never looked at 'Get Lost' as meaning 'Get lost eternally'. I guess it could mean that. That means it would equate to 'Go to H***'. So, I wonder what 'Get Bent' really means. (I truly don't know, other than a put down). Quote
LifeHiscost Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 (I truly don't know, other than a put down). I've never heard the term before so can't be sure. I did grow up in the generation and segment of society that used "Go to H...!" as a general put down when you couldn't think of anything else sufficient to fill the bill, you know, not bad enough to give lumps but not good enough to let slide. Anyway you might imagine my relief when I learned "Go to h...!" was just relegated to lack of life, not a place of life in a fiery furnace. The former was thought to be better than I deserved and the latter terribly unjustified, though I hadn't a time limit on burning that seemed to be just the right amount for those who were unwilling or didn't happen to appreciate the gift of life Jesus was willing to give them. Regards! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
GreatLakesGramma Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I never looked at 'Get Lost' as meaning 'Get lost eternally'. You are correct. It never means that. And Neil knows it. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 How about "buzz off"? I will never forget... My youngest sister is quite a bit younger than me and my other siblings. Having her around after so many years of just the three of us was quite a novelty, and we spoiled her more than our parents did. Yet she wasn't really spoiled. She was not a brat in any way. One day, she was being a bit of a pest, as little sisters can sometimes be, and I told her to buzz off. She started to walk away going, "Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz." It was so funny! And so cute! We couldn't make her leave after that! She is still a good-natured person. We could all stand to be a little more like her, I think. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I wasn't actually suggesting it as something that should be said here. It came to mind, and I just had to share that story about my sister. But still, I think it fits. I assure you, I was not being funny toward my sister. I was genuinely annoyed, and I wanted her to go away and leave us alone. But she refused to take offense and defused the situation. Neil D Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 [wandering into this forum, again] Well, if you want my opinion, "get lost...." ....on second thought, since I have been told to get lost, I dont think anyone could give a knats eyebrow what I think.......and since I have the mandate "Get lost, Neil", perhaps I will leave and get lost..... but is anyone... ever... really... lost,....physically? I've thought about being "bent"....but in a spiritual sense, being bent would kinda mean to be one minded, usually not normally minded...as in you are bent on doing something.... Oh, well...as I said, no one is really interested in my opinion, since I have this....order...to "get lost".... Neil D Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I'm sorry that was said to you Neil, and I'm sorry that it hurt your feelings. And your opinion does count, as much as everyone else's. Oh, I can say that I am not hurt, Liz....as I am trying to find out what it means to be more 'lost, than found'.... So, per my mandate, I am learning to be lost....it's an interesting concept. Being lost physically is being around til he/she doesn't know where you are at... Being spiritually Lost, has a totally different meaning.......Are you lost because, since I figured, my friend is close to God, that perhaps he is speaking for God? Cuz if he is, I believe I would be in rebellion against God....maybe I am.... Now, the idea of "being bent" is unique...Is that a reference to being against one's nature or that one does what comes naturally? Another question coming to the surface of my conscious is...what happens when I am found.......? And then another forceful thought protruding upon my consciousness....before I go to bed and find myself....lost...in my own bed...
