BobRyan Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 On the day of Pentecost you had many individual's receive the Holy Spirit's 1Cor12 - gifts. Quote: But should the Lord work upon men as He did on and after the day of Pentecost, many who now claim to believe the truth would know so very little of the operation of the Holy Spirit that they would cry, "Beware of fanaticism." They would say of those who were filled with the Spirit, "These men are full of new wine." {2SM 57.1} Paul said - "desire earnestly spiritual gifts but especially that you may prophesy" 1Cor 14:1 then in 1Cor 14 Paul goes on to say "each one has a revelation" showing that they did indeed have that gift even though these people in Corinth were not present on the day of Pentecost. Ellen White is an example of someone with that gift of prohecy. She also publishes the inspired dreams of Loughborough and Mattesson in 1T 590-604 but first introduces the subject on 1T569 saying that inspired dreams are just as much the fruit of the Spirit of Prophecy as visions. All pretty interesting really - in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
Dr. Rich Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Hey Bob, if you would like to see a picture of what happened on the day of Penticost, do a search on Benny Hinn on utube. Either John was correct in John 20:22 or Luke's account was correct in Acts 2. What other choice do we have? Quote
Moderators Nan Posted July 15, 2009 Moderators Posted July 15, 2009 Hey Bob, if you would like to see a picture of what happened on the day of Penticost, do a search on Benny Hinn on utube. Either John was correct in John 20:22 or Luke's account was correct in Acts 2. What other choice do we have? Why are those verses mutually exclusive? While I have not done a search for videos of Benny Hinn now, I do not recall that his listeners can understand what he says in a variety of languages. What happened on the day of Pentecost seems as much a gift of hearing in the listeners as of the gift of tongues in the speakers. To whom do you think that those who mocked, in Acts 2:13, were referring? To the listeners or to the disciples? I do not find that clear from the text. Quote
BobRyan Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 It is sad that some people don't know the difference between Benny Hinn false doctrines and the actual Bible. But there again - is a case where Rich wants to divert this topic to his ideas on rejecting the Bible. I suggest we stay on topic instead. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
LifeHiscost Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 How would you feel if we as Europeans began to comment on your immigration policies, etc. etc. That's what America is all about. Here you're free to give your opinion about what might be helpful, no matter how insignificant or ludicrous the idea might be. OTOH, the powers that be are taking those freedoms away as fast as they can, without actually intending on fomenting civil insurrection. The leaders that are now in power, American and non-American, are more than happy to take America to places most Americans are unwilling to go. I can think of two prime examples from other countries. Iran and North Korea. We are safe so far, only because God has mercifully included a gift of the Holy Spirit, faith, among Americans for each other. Which gift is rapidly disappearing, another sign of the end of all things. Regards! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

However my conclusion is based on more than that for which most of our members might be ready. "“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming;go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming." LifeHiscost Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Here we are 30 some years later and we do have an African American president. But having said that, do I think that we should go overboard? pk The problem here is that whenever dangerous spiritual events are occurring, those who stick close to the truth are perceived as going overboard. Probably praying for Jesus to give us the gift of discernment would be a good option. "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."James 1:5 NKJV Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 This is a battle of faith. We need to do all we can to increase our faith not our food. Very good advice. If I succeed in gathering much food but have no faith, I am certain there is someplace in the Spirit of Prophecy that it will be forcibly taken by others interested only in their own wellbeing. BobRyan Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Good points. The idea that Jeremiah and Isaiah were "not sent to Israel until Israel was eager and ready to listen to a true prophet of God" can not be supported from Scripture. The same goes for Noah. Essentially it turns out that NOBODY was ready to listen to him. Yet God sent him anyway. There is no "only go to people ready for a prophet" doctrine in scripture. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." LifeHiscost Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Interesting story - but I prefer the Bible on this point. Including the Amos 3:7 part of the Bible? "Surely the Lord does nothing but He reveals His secrets to His servants the prophets". Including the Prov 29 part of the Bible? "Where there is no vision the people perish" Including the 1Cor 14:1 part of the Bible? "Desire earnestly spiritual gifts but especially that you may prophesy" Including the 1Thess 5:19-20 part of the Bible? "Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophetic messages" Including the Matt 23 part of the Bible? "I will send you prophets". in Christ, Bob TU TU ")And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them."Ezekiel 2:5 KJV Blessings! LifeHiscost Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Quote: Quote:jasd Indeed, He is capable – but He allows for your discernment and initiative to direct your activities; such as, though “resting in His capabilities”, that action directed to either forestall or ameliorate evil – if not for ourselves, than surely others. [ed.jasd] >>When I read the Word in prayer and supplication, the cross seems so much lighter than when others tell me what my duty is to God, others, and myself. How about you?<< I cannot find an imperative in my above quote. I think the point that I had in mind was how dependence upon God makes our effort one of His actions in the life of the believer, an enjoyable experience, as opposed to being a burden of our own or someone else's effort to gain eternal life. Case in point would be how Adam and Eve were occupied with pleasurable work re: tending the garden before the fall into sin. After the fall when they worked the ground, it was no longer considered to be a pleasurable experience, gifted from God, but was then considered to be a curse worked out by man by the sweat of their brow. This would, necessarily then, see discernment and initiative as gifts from God, exercised with pleasure and motivated by the Holy Spirit in those who believe. This condition, when accepted, would help prevent what is almost overwhelmingly prevalent in the society of man today. LifeHiscost Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I posted that since it is somewhat predictable that when some line of reason fails -- fiction is brought in and then loudly applauded as a good substitute for factual argument. Hence my point above that there was in fact NO post here that ever argued in favor of "accept anyone without question". But you have to admit that a straw man like pretending that someone posted in favor of "accept anyone without question" is much easier to oppose than the actual discussion being had here. in Christ, Bob Quote Lift Jesus up!!

BobRyan Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I think Darnall is no longer living so not sure how we could have more news. Having said that -- here is something I came upon a couple of days ago. Seems kind of odd. Does anyone know anything about Lyndon LaRouche? He seems to place a lot of emphasis on the current president and the end of the world - from a purely secular political and economic analyst POV. The reason I listened for this for more than 5 minutes is that he makes a connection between England and the US going all the way back to the civil war in America in a way not totally unlike statements Ellen White made at the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1yIWOiDMZw&feature=related in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin."
