Our church leaders are showing us all the time in the church publications that there are people out there trying to scare people. One guy was even saying we should store food.

I am teasing you because this is what people say to me when I try to show them signs of the times.

The scenario you describe, are you actually serious about certain people within the body of Christ saying that? Would that be most, many, or few? While I haven't spoken to multitudes anytime recently, that is definitely not the normal reaction in this area, especially not among Adventists as well as those of other persuasions.

Anyone care for a little side bet? You pay me $1200, inflation adjusted, when the pope after Benedict is appointed.

There are many who see the changing events and are trying to warn the people. Some of them have added human ideas like storing food or protecting our family.

I do not have at my fingertips the publications that have rebuked these people but I have been to peoples houses where they have read them to me.

Our leadership has for the most part been silent about the change of events and the urgency of the situation. Although there are signs that they too are now beginning to become aware that the world has changed.

This is a battle of faith. We need to do all we can to increase our faith not our food.

Neither the day nor the hour is being predicted or even advocated here, however, what is being said is in line with our watching for the signs of the times. In relation to this dream by Darnall, there are at least two studies that have come to the same conclusion about Christ coming within the lifetime of the present Pope. As we do not know the day nor the hour of the Pope's death, neither do we know the day nor the hour of Christ's second coming, but we do know that His 2nd coming is very, very near, even at the door, as Ed Reid says in his book.

Be careful here. You are rocking the boat. There are many people who like the boat just the way it is.

When you start applying scripture to current day events, you are predicting Jesus second coming. Remember NO MAN knowth the day or the hour!!!.

People have been saying Jesus is coming since I was a teenager.

We have church theologians who have studied this stuff. There is nothing to be concerned about.

Yeah, I remember reading something from Ellen White that said it will be pointless to store food. People would steal it anyways. It will be our faith that feeds us during the time like no other.

Or maybe God's ravens!?

I hope that time shall never provide the occasion when I shall think of y’all as – “silly”. Anyway,

Exactly, by faith we address our needs. Even Jesus Christ sent His disciples amongst the multitudes to gather that which might be increased - that being, loaves and fish - in a word,

food.

"Let us not be so heavenly-minded that we are no earthly good!"

Lu 4:25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

Lu 4:26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

And should there be plague...

Lu 4:27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

One of those traditional quotes that carries more discouragement

than encouragement, seemingly designed to limit claiming promises given non-arbitrarily by our Father for the sake of His erring children.

Not “discouragement” LifeHiscost, rather – admonition. Sorta of the sort that advises one to get off his knees and plough... there be those instead whom Gd designated and anointed to remain upon their knees, as it were.

>>...seemingly designed to limit claiming promises given non-arbitrarily by our Father for the sake of His erring children.<<

A great flood descended upon the little town. Mr Schlomo was eventually forced to climb out upon his roof to escape the rising waters, at which point his neighbour put-putted up to him in his small bass boat and told Schlomo to get in. Schlomo replied that

he would take a pass and rely upon Gd instead.

The waters kept rising and a very large piece of timber floated by, which provided a means of escape. Schlomo declined to take advantage –

relying upon the promises of the surety of Gd instead.

Schlomo was eventually forced to climb upon the chimney, the only remaining part of his house still above the rising waters. A National Guard helicopter stopped overhead and dropped a lift – whereupon Schlomo hollered as loudly as his lungs and the rotor wash allowed. “Go on and get someone else –

I have the promises and will rely upon the surety instead.”

Of course the waters overwhelmed Schlomo and when he approached those Pearly Gates he asked to see the registrar... “What happened to my sureties!?”

“Mr Schlomo, Gd sent your neighbour in his bass boat; He provided the float; He sent the helicopter – and

you refused either to accept the help or failed to help yourself. You lacked discernment.”

I've heard the story before, which makes a good point. And you did a very good work in fleshing out the details of the circumstances. However I've found the Lord admonishing those who depend on their works for salvation to be in a greater majority than those who rest in the promises of His capabilities to save.

Also since the individual in question about turning down the proferred avenues to safety, was standing at the pearly gates when asking the question why, the Lord was probably happy to allow him in despite his seeming lack of intelligence or ambition.

Not, of course, discounting the fact that as a result of not using all his talents, he went through a measure of discouraging circumstances he maybe could have avoided and they could have caused final despair.

OTOH he arrived at the pearly gates earlier than he would have had he taken advantage of the lifeboat, which sometimes seems preferable to exercising great strength to insure that we don't pass to our reward earlier than might be expected.

"For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law."Romans 3:28 NASB

"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom." James 3:13 NKJV

I believe that Jesus told us all that we need to know re the end times and therefore there is no need for an end time Prophet. As to the belief here that the Son of God does not know the hour or the day that he will arrive to set up his kingdom I beg to differ.

In Mark 13:32 Jesus does tell us that at that particular period in time He did not know the hour but He does NOT tell us that He will NEVER know the time of his coming.

If you read Rev. 1:1-4 it is very obvious that God has now given His son the time and hour. "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, (Jesus) to shew unto his servants things which must SHORTLY come to pass; and he sent it and signified it by his angel onto his servant John."

Revelation is written unto the servants of Jesus Christ. It is written for the end times. We should be studying the messages to the seven churches because they are for us today.

"Blessed is he that readeth, and they that HEAR the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein; FOR THE TIME IS AT HAND."

Speaking of which, and the Pearly Gates: Two drunken Irishmen showed up at the Pearly Gates prematurely... St Peter stopped them with the words, “You’re early, you’re not scheduled yet.”

“Well, we’re here” the twosome rejoined; whereupon, St Peter asked them to wait while he went off to seek higher counsel. When he returned,

both the drunken Irish and the Pearly Gates were gone... bwink

(I'm allowed, as I’m part Irish)

>>However I've found the Lord admonishing those who depend on their works for salvation...<<

Yet again, He praises them for works done in expectation of condign merit...; 'works' such as, feeding the hungry – which, assuredly, will be those dependent upon your actions.

>>...to be in a greater majority than those who rest in the promises of His capabilities to save.<<

Indeed, He is capable – but He allows for your discernment and initiative to direct your activities; such as, though “resting in His capabilities”, that action directed to either forestall or ameliorate evil – if not for ourselves, than surely others.

>>OTOH he arrived at the pearly gates earlier than he would have had he taken advantage of the lifeboat, which sometimes seems preferable to exercising great strength to insure that we don't pass to our reward earlier than might be expected.<<

Indeed, but oh! the opportunities lost by which he might have bestowed congruently...

True. In fact AA260 says it is a sin to ignore the signs of the times and implies that it is also a sin to try to quell all apprehension of the event.
