Members phkrause Posted April 22, 2009 Members Posted April 22, 2009 I wonder if he knew something about her he was not suppose to know? Seems a very odd question to ask someone anyway! pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
olger Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Yeah, pK. The old "Pin the Christian (or person with standards) against the PC wall." could be... Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Planey Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Perhaps we have a good VP choice for Sarah? Red, your previous posts indicated that this was a very intelligent young lady with high integrity. Hence she is obviously a Democrat, ruling her out as a possible running mate for Sarah. Woody Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Good one Planey. VERY FUNNY Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Â
olger Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 According to her grandmother, Carrie has attended a few ball games with Michael Phelps. She said Michael is a real gentleman. oG Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

GreatLakesGramma Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Carrie is a gentleman? Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
Woody Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Well ... yes in the neutered edition. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Â
Planey Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Michael is a real gentleman. Wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic or not. Still can't decide. Absolutely no doubt he is a superb athlete, but gentleman? Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

GreatLakesGramma Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 You don't have to be smart or mature to have good manners and be considerate of others, which is a large part of what it means to be a real gentleman. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Woody Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 OR .... a gentle lady. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Â

Key Guy Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 If it was 40 years ago and her personal opinion was 'black people and white people shouldn't eat in the same restaurants', would we still be lauding her courage? Nobody caught this? Carrie is a Christian. She believes the Bible and takes it as truth. God specifically condemns homosexuality and Carrie believes that. What does that have to do with a social (non-Biblical) question of mixed races eating in a restaurant? If anything, the acceptance of racial equality IS Biblical. So, if society decides that mixed races can eat in the same restaurant, which is something to to be grateful for, then it's perfectly fine for society to decide that same-sex marriages are acceptable? Society changes. The Bible does not. I laud her courage. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted April 25, 2009 Moderators Posted April 25, 2009 It may be an odd thought, but not everyone in America is Christian. And the constitution specifically prohibits the establishment of religion. So law should not be based on Christian beliefs, no matter how moral, Biblical, correct and appropriate those beliefs may be. Quote Truth is important
Key Guy Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 In her response, Carrie specifically stated that it's a free country. Then she stated HER beliefs. She wasn't asked what America's laws were. The homo judge was busting on her because of her opinions, which she based on her Christian beliefs. Your thoughts are not odd. Just your logic. I'm curious. Did you actually see or hear the exchange? Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted April 25, 2009 Moderators Posted April 25, 2009 Yep. If you read back you'll see that I already said I thought the question was unfair. She did actually say "In my country, in my family..." we believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. She may have mis-spoken, but it sounded as though she was making a statement for the country. Quote Truth is important

So law should not be based on Christian beliefs, no matter how moral, Biblical, correct and appropriate those beliefs may be. You need to spend a little more time on the US Constitution It prohibits the government from establishing a religion. It does not prohibit anyone from having religious affiliation, opinions or expressing them when specifically asked a very specific question as to their personal beliefs. This contestant had not only every right to respond, she had a obligation to be true to her beliefs in responding. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise, or abridging the freedom of speech thereof; It is pretty clear. There is no right to prohibit her from being true to her conscience. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Moderators Bravus Posted April 25, 2009 Moderators Posted April 25, 2009 Agreed. She has every right to her own opinion. I have already stated that the question was unfair. The context, though, is that laws are coming in and out across the country in relation to this issue, including Proposition 8 in her own state, and that there have also been calls for a constitutional amendment on this issue. The question was asked as a current affairs question, so this context is relevant. But once again, the question was unfair in comparison to the questions asked of the other contestants and the usual questions asked in contests of this kind. Quote Truth is important

Key Guy Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 No doubt, Stan... But the homos are still being bullied, too. Quote: A 27-year-old who stabbed a bisexual man after his girlfriend discoved them "play fighting" and accused him of being gay has been sentenced to six years in prison. On October 30th 2008 Scott Mackenzie, from Inverness, and his girlfriend Louisa Chisholm had spent the day drinking with his victim, William Wood, 24, who was described in court as a "bisexual transvestite." They returned to Mackenzie's flat where Chisholm fell asleep and the two men began to discuss Mr Wood's sexuality. At the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lord Brodie said he accepted that Mr Wood had tried to engage Mackenzie in sexual activity but his advances were rejected. The two men began to "play fight" and Chisholm woke up and accused her boyfriend of being gay. Mackenzie then went to the kitchen, got two knives and repeatedly stabbed his victim. "Police arrived at Mackenzie’s flat in Inverness to find victim Mr Wood kneeling on the floor covered in blood with his attacker standing behind him holding a knife to his throat," according to Highland News. "Officers managed to persuade the knife attacker to drop the weapon before they restrained him." The court was told that Mr Wood was "in the process of obtaining gender reassignment," and was wearing female attire on the day in question. He had "undressed down to a pair of satin pants" when he made a pass at Mackenzie. Mr Wood has been left with scars to his neck. http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-12150.html PS: New term: 'gender reassignment' Quote

I haven't read the beginning of this topic recently but it seems to me your disapproval first was directed at her. I think you put it somewhat on the level of racism. Then referred to our constitution. She did not violate the constitution in any way. Regardless of the political situation and everyone frothing at the mouth to be politically correct, she answered her conscience and perception. My dad always said"If you think you are not going to like the answer,be smart enough not to ask the question" Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. carolaa Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 General comment: I think she had every right to say what she said. And I greatly admire her courage to follow her conscience and say the unpopular thing, knowing it would likely cost her the crown. But I also wonder if a more inclusive answer may have been just as appropriate and perhaps more wise. Would it have been *wrong* to say something like, "I believe in America's democratic system where issues like this can be decided by the people or by the courts, and as Miss USA, I would want to represent and serve all Americans, regardless of my personal convictions"?
