As I said teaching a kid to remain true to an OC document isn't admirable. To men, yes...to God, no!

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. "

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."

And Jesus fulfilled them and I was "in Him". I am complete "in Him". Those who stay with the OC will lose out on heaven because, "By the works of the law no flesh shall be justified in His sight."

There's so much self-righteousness, denominational pride and legalism within the SDA church that sometimes I wonder how these folks are going to make it to heaven?

I'd say it's a snowball's chance in the Sahara that this boy changed his mind about following the rules he agreed to because of any spiritual enlightenment. No, more likely when he signed the agreement, he thought it was no big deal. But as soon as his own personal desire was to do something else, he chose his own desires over his promise. The fact that he is unwilling to accept the natural result of his choice supports that. He wants to have his cake and eat it too.

Happens all the time. You can hardly trust anybody these days.

No, however they are a teacher and those who refuse to be taught remain ignorant.

But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

James 1:25 NASB)

The same grace that applies to you, applies to them. The only ones that will be excluded are those who refuse the Word of Life.

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."John 6:63 KJV

"You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me."John 5:39 NKJV

Of course, words remain only words until they reveal Jesus. Then those same words give life. David, among innumerable others, found that to be true. Those that hate the Law, have not found the Christ.

"I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love."Psalm 119:113 KJV

" YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS; THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS."

Hebrews 1:9 NASB Emphasis theirs LHC

And that last in new covenant

[many quotes]

Life, the problem I have with your "many quotes" is that they are meaningless unless taken within their context. Linking together a bunch of quotes really changes their original meaning and allows you to make it say what it does not. Just FYI....

The law of liberty is not the law....

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. [James 1:25]

You see the law, while is does point out sin, is a yoke of bondage. Righteousness doesn't come by the law. It can't help...all it can do is demand and condemn.

See if you can find "the law of liberty" in following:

2 cor 3:7 Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9 If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! 10 For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. 11 And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

12 Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

The law of liberty is the Lord. What did He say? "I've brought liberty to the captives, etc...."

"For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

"Romans 8:2 KJV

"The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes."Psalm 19:8 KJV

When one continuously chooses not to believe one Word that God speaks to His children, understanding the other Words becomes unintelligible and impossible.

"the law of the Spirit" means the power or force of the spirit. The law of sin means the power of sin. These two law meant in Jesus as the Son of God and the Son of man.

Sure, nothing wrong with the law, but the law can't produce righteousness in you. It demands and condemns. Read Romans 7:1-14

I know I am going to regret asking but what has the above to do with this topic.

No one even suggested that the rule was to produce righteousness. When you agree to something you should be adult enough to abide by your word. The parents should be trying to help instill some honor and integrity and show by example.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

You can look at the law all day long, but nothing will happen. The law actually makes matters worse because now you know you're not measuring up. And, BTW, don't stop with the letter of law, look intently at its spirit also.

Romans 3:20 For no one can ever be made right in God's sight by doing what his law commands. For the more we know God's law, the clearer it becomes that we aren't obeying it.

Which is exactly reason why we are counseled from the Word to look intently at it, as it reveals how short we come to meeting up with the requirements for dwelling with a holy God. When we don't follow that counsel, it is common for man, in general, to forget they are not holy no matter how hard they try or how long. Which then draws men to come to the conclusion they need a Savior willing to share with them His righteousness, both imparted and imputed.

"Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested.”" Revelation 15:4 NKJV

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”"Matthew 11:27-30

And that's all new covenant previously revealed in the sacrificial system of the old covenant.

"The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" John 1:29 NASB
