Members phkrause Posted June 23, 2009 Members Posted June 23, 2009 Me too, for me if the Bible is not that accurate why would God continue to keep it from totally disappearing altogether. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted June 23, 2009 Administrators Posted June 23, 2009 The problem here seems to be confusion of accuracy with truth. Accuracy and truth are not the same thing and do not often dwell peacefully together in the same house. Likewise, perfection and righteousness/holiness are not the same thing and do not always rest easily in each others arms. The truth can be told without accurate information and facts. And righteousness need not be perfect to do/be any good. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
TreeOfLife Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 ”As We Have It…” or “As It Is…?” I am just wondering where this train of thought (that the Bible as we have it is not to be trusted) will lead... Dear Gail, “The Bible as we have it” is not necessarily the same as “the Bible as it is.” There is a difference! Cf. also item #2 at this link of mine! Selah! Consider it! TreeOfLife Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Me or God? - Who is to blame…? . . . By the way, didn't EGW say that God NEVER forces anyone to believe in Him? Then how come God forced Saul by making him blind? Uh? Dear Dr. Rich, If I do something stupid because I don’t know better, when I have to suffer the undesirable consequences of my own action, is that God forcing me? Or is it my own fault? Why would it be different for Saul than it is for me or you? Consider also this link of mine re the cause of Saul’s blindness! Shalom, Tree of Life© Quote http://adamoh.org
TreeOfLife Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 God Has Preserved What…? Me too, for me if the Bible is not that accurate why would God continue to keep it from totally disappearing altogether. He has done the exact opposite, he has preserved it for over 4000 years. pk Dear P Krause, Certainly God is keeping that which is His from the beginning! So also His Word, the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures! Yet, Satan, through men such as the Roman Catholic Church, through such as you and me clinging desperately to such thoughts and such lies that belong to RCC or even to Satan and not to God, is constantly doing his best to hide the Word of God as it is from each of us. That is, by making anyone and each one among us believe that the Words of God are the exact same thing as what you or I may think it is from time to time… That is, by making us believe that such lies as were created by Satan and by baseless fantasies of men and women such as me or you are one and the same as the Words of God when they are not… Each of us are in need of humbling ourselves by constantly double checking our own current understanding of each word in the Word of God as it really is – to the best of our current ability to perceive it as it originally was… and to perceive ever better its original meaning… I find it amazing how that on numerous occasions, when in words I expressed my need for it, God has instantly given me a source closer to the origin than that which until then I thought was the closest to the original available today! The last time that happened was yesterday when I wished for an Aramaic to English Dictionary such that I could better understand the words within the Peshitta New Testament… (cf. this link!) Dr. Rich Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Treeoflife, I went to the link that you listed and read a document on what someone's opinion of what Paul's 'thorn in the flesh' was. Personally, I found the document totally unfounded and without merrit. The verse used was 2nd Cor. 12:7.: "And because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations" (Paul just wrote about Him going to the third heaven and visiting with Mary among other people and you can google 'the revelation of Paul' and read what Paul had to say about his 'revelations') "for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh A MESSENGER OF SATAN to buffet me--to keep me from exalting myself!" This verse is quite clear that the thorn in the flesh is a demon. After all, isn't a messenger from heaven an angel? Therefore, a messenger from Satan would have to be a demon-right? What I also find interesting about this verse is that Paul demanded three times for his god to remove the demon and the answer by Paul's god. (See verse 9) Come on now, the God I serve would first of all never give someone a demon, nor would my God ever refuse to get rid of the demon! What do you think? Quote
